We used San Diego as a launching pad for a day-trip to Tijuana, and found a very central hostel in the downtown Glaslamp quarters. This used to be the seedier side of town, but is now the hippest part (so we were told). San Diego is a small town though, in comparison to NYC and LA, and it shows. We walked around for a bit, got a bite to eat and saw Rocky Balboa. Not one of the best movies we've seen, but worth a DVD-rental. Went to bed early to be fresh for Mexico... eh, Tijuana anyway. San Diego ar ... read more

Had a bit of a sleep in finally to 9.30am. Went down stairs where our private limo picked us up with James our driver (such a limo driver name I recon). Neway it was private for about 5 mins until we picked up 6 others. So we headed off for our tour of Hollywood stars homes. First he took us up to some restaurant on the hill which gave us a closer look at the 'Hollywood' sign and a look over Hollywood (very nice). Next we went along Sunset Blvd (nite clubs etc) and visited Paris Hilton Hollywood home. She had about 4 different cars parked out the front. We continued down Sunset Blvd and saw Hallie Berry's house from afar and then we headed into Beverly Hills where most of the house are. We also ... read more

Well after arriving in Mammoth on Monday then spending Tuesday getting acquainted with the mountain (skiing wise), Wednesday was our first day of work at June Mountain (www.junemountain.com). The mountain is about 20 miles from Mammoth Lakes and takes about 35 minutes on the bus which arrives at our stop at 7:15am (ouch!). June is a really nice little resort that attracts mostly locals and hardcore skiers/boarders, and it has one of the best freestyle parks (Jumps, halfpipe, rails etc) in the US. The ride up to the main building is a 10 minute lift ride that gives us some spectacular views of the surrunding mountains, it feels like we are in the heart of the European Alps rather than California! Our first 2 days of work were pretty much all theory, our supervisor lecturing us ... read more

To get to the Joshua Tree National Park we drove past some interesting (to say the least) towns with names like Yucca Valley and Twentynine Palms. Could it have something to do with basically the only vegetation out there higher than 5 feet being varieties of the Yucca lily (yes, it's not a palm tree at all...)? In Twentynine Palms (which hosts a massive military base and seems to be the reason the town is around at all) we were told that coyotes would come up to the car and beg for food, so we looked, and looked, and looked... D saw a tail and a stripy behind, and that was it... The only other interesting fauna we saw was a black-tailed jackrabbit. The park, which is part of the Mojave Desert, is enourmous. You could ... read more

Had our first big dump on saturday with over a foot of fresh powder, which is good news for mammoth and getting us closer to starting work at June mountain (we still need another 1-2 feet). So we headed out on sunday morning and we're doing the normal runs through the park and near the main lodge when we decide to take a few chairs up in pursuit of some powder runs. Got off the final chair and we're loving the run so far and come to a crossroad... everyone is going right, but left looks deeeeep in powder, although no one is running it (looked kinda closed off but no signs were up). It may or may not have been my decision, we took a left and sunk into waist deep powder with not much ... read more

Hi all, another HUGE day. Got up at 8am and went on a day tour of LA. - Started at Farmer's Market- market food & outdoor shopping centre (The Grove) - Then went Downtown LA, which we found boring. Went past Staples centre where we will be visiting tomorrow to go to the Ice Hockey. Just a couple of markets. Although the tour guide wasn’t too keen in showing us around so maybe we didn't see everything. Bought a scarf for $3.50 it was dam cold there. - Then went down Hollywood Boulevard. (Already seen this as it is just a block away from where we are staying). But anyway I got a picture with my favorite, Superman! Looked at the stars on the footpath and looked at the celebrity hands etc. Had a look around ... read more

Day 2 we drove right through LA to the other side, and the Big Bear Lake area in the San Bernardino mountains. We'd planned to see if we could find some skis and a slope and have a go, but in the end it was too cold, especially since we don't have any salopettes with us... Whimps ;) Also, past Arrowhead (close to the top of the mountain) snow chains were a requirement, and we didn't have any of those either... So we went back down again, and headed for the Joshua Tree National Park. Well worth the trip though, for the fantastic views. Sa mycket sno och inga skidor! Dag 2 korde vi rakt igenom LA till andra sidan, och Big Bear Lake-omradet i San Bernardino-bergen. Vi hade tankt se om det fanns skidor och ... read more

Jimmie Arrives in Los Angeles!!! I picked him up at LAX around 930 and we went straight to the Farmers Market near The Grove in Hollywood. The Grove is an somewhat upscale, mostly chain store, shopping area at 3rd and Fairfax. It reminds me of a backlot. The Farmers Market is attached to The Grove and has a lot of little food vendors and much more of a flea/farmer's market feel. We picked up a piece of cake for Kelci before leaving to meet her for lunch at In-N-Out. Jimmie is taking 3 weeks vacation. Here is our itinerary: spend a couple of days here with Kelci, go camping in Death Valley for 3 nights, go to Vegas for 3 nights, then road trip to my sister's in Tucson for a few days, back to L.A. ... read more

I came to Hollywood as part of my Contiki Tour. I was not to sure on what to expect. I knew that they had a ton of stars, Hollywood Sign, and a few of the big theatres which are famous for lots of hollywood event. All that I know is that it isnt all I expected it to be. Stars There are 5 star types 1) Music 2) TV 3) Movies 4) Radio Personalities 5) Comideians ??? These stars cost $15,000 each to get one. The requerements to get one are that you must be indrustry for at least 10 years, be famous for something and are/been successful. To get a star you dont even have to be a real person. For example the Simpsons, Mickey Mouse, Big Bird, Snow White etc.... All have stars. The ... read more

It's been a week since my return and now that I've had time to process this adventure, I thought I would share some final thoughts with you. I know my last entry ended a little sad with me crying on the plane. I sat next to a nica developer and actually started lecturing him about not ruining his beautiful country. He told me to stop crying because I was making him want to cry! Nicaragua is extremely poor, but, I found it's people, land and country filled with warmth and beauty. With the exception of Managua, I always felt safe and there was always someone to help me. The law of attraction says that the intentions you put out are what comes back to you. I traveled there with no expectations other than to have a ... read more
