Yosemite On the Monday we were off to Yosemite. We drove in and set up the trailer and got chatting to a couple tenting in the site next to us. Alex was a lawyer with a past career in the navy marines, Stephanie a newly graduated nurse working in the ICU. Each of the 3 nights we were there the 4 of us would gather around the campfire, toast marshmellows and talk. Alex’s navy and military stories were fascinating and Stephanie gave me the ‘low down’ on nursing in the US of A. The first night I even managed to put some nursing skills to work putting a dressing on a cut on Alex’s head (sustained while doing his manly duty of collecting firewood!). Unlike NZ parks this one had bears! I was a little nervous ... read more

We drove back to California from Las Vegas and headed north to the San Joaquin Valley. We drove past mile after mile of orchards, fields, and vineyards, ending up at a new RV Resort in Chowchilla. While there is nothing to do there, the park offered free golf with our stay--so that was a plus. We spent a few days in Yosemite National Park. It’s as big as Rhode Island, but most of it inaccessible to vehicles. Coco couldn’t go because of length restrictions, so we left her behind and drove the Honda approximately 2 ½ hours into Yosemite Valley from the south entrance. Tioga Pass, the main east-west road through the park is still closed until 10 feet of snow can be plowed; and another route from the west is closed due to rockslides. The ... read more

Reece: Unfortunately, as cozy as I was in my sleeping bag, nature took it upon herself to call on me in the middle of the night. I was forced to an early rising, probably somewhere around four in the morning, and saw that there was almost two inches of snow already on the ground. This was definitely cool, I thought. Caitlin woke me up again in the morning and we both undertook the not-so-pleasant task of cleaning last night’s dishes and packing up camp with numb hands. Yet, the whole time I was doing so, I kept thinking how worth it that it would all be when I could brag to my friends about how badass I was, camping in the snow on Memorial Day in Lake Tahoe. We said our goodbyes to Ranger Parkinson, ... read more

Since I last wrote we've been in four states.. California, Nevada, Arizona and now Florida.. We (well, me actually - Stu) have driven 2500 miles... Our national park extravaganza is now over... But it took us through amazingly contrasting terrains and climates... not to mention wildlife (sometimes too close for Sarah's comfort but exciting for me - Stu) and miles and miles of walking! So we started off in Yosemite National Park... Stu thought this would be the highlight of the trip and it really even surpasses our expectations (seriously it was the most amazing place I've ever been - look at the picture - it's like a painting on the front of a fantasy novel - the sheer granite cliffs you can see are over a mile high! - Stu). To begin with we suffered ... read more

After leaving Flagstaff, we decided to head up to Colorado - why, we didn't know it just sounded like a good idea at the time. En route, we stopped at a small town called Tuba City and decided to put our camping gear to use. However, to camp out, we decided we might need a couple of beers so we headed off to the nearest 7-11. We couldn't see any in the fridge so we asked the checkout girl who happened to be an Native American Indian, and she replied, ''You won't find any here - you are on a Native American Reservation area. The nearest place to buy beer is Flagstaff...''. How were we to know know? Anyway, the next day we continued on to Colorado, and we finally reached a campsite where we spent ... read more

Så sidder vi i udkanten af Yosemite i "vores" RV. Herligt transportmiddel og bolig. Specielt fordi det regner! "It never rains in California" er bare løgn.

Yosemite National Park We took a coach tour of Yosemite National Park, initially the idea of a 'coach tour' put us off, but we couldn't drive there ourselves as the roads are closed to public vehicles due to heavy snow, etc... We had a great time there, lots of snow and rain, but this added to the ambience of the place! (us brits...hard as nails!) Yosemite is Americas first National Park openned by Reagan. This is 'BIG' country at it's very best, ie, stunning waterfalls, canyons, white rapids and HUGE rivers, massive rocks/boulders/birds/trees/forests/no tourists/bears/small stones/mud/flowers/etc......... It took 4 hours from San Fran, the coach driver was proper mind! A real cool old yank, gave us the 'short' history of America, Yosemite, local business and the changes in economic growth within the past century, and the brief ... read more
