Our bodies are still on UK time; I was awake just after 3.00am and Sam woke around 5.00am. We went down for an early breakfast and decided on the buffet option. Sam went straight for Healthy Option 1 with a muffin, chocolate doughnut and pancakes covered in syrup and I went for the bacon, eggs, sausage and French toast as Healthy Option 2. By the end of the meal we were both stuffed and didn't eat again until about 6.00pm. The weather here is great and leaving the hotel at 9.00am it was already hot and the sky was clear blue apart from a strange round yellow thing that we haven't seen in the UK for a while. We decided to set today aside to try and clear Sam's shopping list, consisting mainly of skateboard equipment ... read more

After packing a few last minute essentials we were out of the house and onto empty roads by 5.30am and well on target to reach Heathrow in good time. Unfortunately it didn't quite go to plan and it took us over an hour to do the last 20 miles on the M25, which did start to worry me a little as the estimated arrival time on the Sat Nav crept slowly upward. Once at the long-stay car park the transfer to Terminal 3 only took 10 minutes and as we'd checked-in online we cleared customs very quickly and arrived at the gate just in time to board the plane. The security checks were quite tight and I had to hand over a new can of Lynx (larger than 100ml), but rather than just throwing it away ... read more

Our last day at Disneyland. We started off the day by getting our Disneyland shopping and customary pictures done, followed by me running (not literally) back to the hotel so we didn't have to haul our loot around. Followed by a few more rides and a lunch of the some of the biggest corn dogs known to man. (On a side note - we tried to avoid buying food at Disneyland and did a pretty good job of bringing in lunch, snacks and drinks because 5 corns dogs and a couple drinks cost $42). By this time the little boys were actually getting their fill of Disneyland and just wanted to head back to the hotel for some pool time. Michelle and Justin stayed behind to go to California Adventure since we hadn't gone on ... read more

Our 5 day park hopper pass allows us one early entry into Disneyland (7:00am instead of 8:00) so we thought we would use it today to get in early and go see the redesigned Submarine ride which now has a Nemo theme and avoid the 3 hour line ups which have been common since it opened. Unfortunately, we didn't get there right at 7:00 and although we still got in early the line up was already 2 hours long. Given that none of us had a really strong desire to see the ride we decided Nemo would just have to wait until our next trip to Disneyland. Apparently the same thing happened with Pirates of the Caribbean last year when they redesigned it with the Johnny Depp Captain Jack theme, 3-4 hour line ups which ... read more

Another day in Disneyland, this is starting to get boring ..... NOT!!! Started the day by visiting ToonTown which is new since the last time I was here last time just 28 years ago. It's a village full of cartoon buildings all bulging and bendy with rides and attractions geared more for smaller kids. So Noah had fun but was still a little shy about going on any rides after going on The Matterhorn, Splash Mountain and Grizzly Rapids the first couple days. So he just ran through the buildings while Iain went on the Gadget's Go Coaster and Roger Rabbits Car Toon Spin with everyone else. While Michelle, Justin and Iain were on the spin Noah and I explored Donald's Boat. Unfortunately, Noah decided to look over the edge and lost his newly acquired ... read more

Our California Adventure continued today at Disney's California Adventure. Michelle and Noah worked hard at filling up their autograph book and getting pictures of more characters. It wasn't as crowded as yesterday in Disneyland and there's a little bit less area to cover so we were able to enjoy lots of rides. We started by Talking to Crush from Nemo. It's a neat interactive show where the audience can actually talk to an animated Crush the Sea Turtle. Noah and Iain didn't get a chance to ask him a question, but then he probably wouldn't have been able to answer it anyway. We also helped Mike and Sulley Rescue Boo, were terrified in the Tower of Terror, rid the Jumpin' Jellyfish, Soared over California and watched the Muppets in 3D. Perhaps the most fun was ... read more

Tonight is our last night in Anaheim, and we've had loads of fun at the theme parks. Yesterday wasn't as crazy as we thought it would be, and we managed to get through most of Disney, except for a few rides. It was a very hot day, and I'm now wishing I had packed a few white tops, and a little sundress, but I'm sure I can pick these up in LA. Apart from the heat, it was a great day...although Disney is a little overrated...lots of merchandise and very repetitive. Still, we did have a blast...and as I'm typing this at 9:32 pm, I can hear the fireworks display blasting away in the background. We started off in Fantasyland, and went on some great rides...at least I thought they were great. Iz, being the ... read more

Yay we're going to Disneyland! Our first day at the Happiest Place on Earth was great fun. Some or all of us (Noah wasn't to game) went on a bunch of rides. First off was the Matterhorn, an oldy but a goody, other rides we hit were A Small World, Pirates of the Caribbean, Buzz Lightyears Astro Blaster, Jungle Cruise, Casey Jr. Circus Train, Splash Mountain, Indiana Jones, Space Mountain and the Haunted Mansion. The crowds were pretty heavy but we used the Fastpasses as much as possible so we didn't spend too much time in lines. There's lots to do and see but we've got 5 days to see everything we want. ... read more

Independence Day! We're leaving Las Vegas and heading to Disneyland and if we thought the drive into Vegas was hot and nerve racking that was because we hadn't driven out of Las Vegas to California. 110+ temperatures long climbs, steep downhills even more traffic and an antsy co-pilot .... lotsa fun! It actually got more relaxing once we got to LA with 8 lanes of traffic since it was flatter, straighter and about 20 degrees cooler. Yeah, I know we have air conditioning but when it's that hot you just can't have enough to make it comfortable. Through all that we still made it to our hotel a short distance from Disneyland around 3:30 unpacked and "chilled out" for a little while. Our place is great it's walking distance to the park (although we'll likely ... read more

Well, we finally arrived in sunny LA at around 12:30pm today. The flights were pretty good...Brisy to Auckland was GREAT as we were on the big 747 jumbo...but from Auckland to LA we had the crappy 777 - a much smaller plane in comparison. The flight was packed and there was quite a bit of turbulance. Still, Iz and I managed to get about 2 hours sleep. The check in process at LA is pretty crazy...had to give fingerprints and get mug shots. It took us over an hour to get through all this protocol, before boarding our speedy shuttle out to Anaheim...or as Izzy spells it Anehime...hehe. The weather here is BLOODY HOT! We went for a walk around Downtown Disney at 3:30/4:00pm and we were sweating it out. It's now 6:30pm and the sun ... read more
