We left Hemet after a restful week, delicious Turkey Day meal, and a visit to Idyllwild with friends Jon and Lisa. After an easy day of driving, we spent the night at River Breeze RV Park in Ehrenberg, AZ across the Colorado River from Blythe, CA. Last year, we spent the month of December at River Breeze; our first ever extended stay at a park for a month. Basically, with the monthly rate, you get to stay four weeks for the price of three, based on daily rates. We are not returning to River Breeze for an extended stay this year because of the lack of organized activities. But it was fun to say hello to the managers for a one night stay. The only downside was that an old timer clipped the driver side mirror ... read more

I head south, towards Lake Isabella and the Kern River area. It's Memorial Day weekend, and I see all sorts of activity on the lake. Realizing I'm close to Bakersfield and it's Yoshinoya, I head out to the San Joaquin valley and get my beef bowl fix. Then I head over to Sequoia National Park. Tourists are everywhere (being Memorial Day weekend), and the road through the park is congested for many of the parts. At Lodgepole, I do some laundry and chat with a nice British man before heading off back into the valley. So I need to go tubing. I did buy this inner tube and all. So I head back to the Kern River area to check out my prospects there. No go- the water is too rapid (and probably too cold). Just ... read more

Well, we just left the center of the retired world, Yuma, AZ. We really enjoyed our visit and will definitely come back again to explore a little more. I think the main draw to Yuma is actually the people. Bob was able to visit with a lot of people that he hasn't seen in a long time and we have really enjoyed getting to know Dan and Linda who let us park the Cameo in their back yard. We had a blast playing games - old and new. (this is where I have to say "Girls RULE and boys DROOL!") We went to "Midnight at the Oasis" car show and had a great time. The weather was kinda wierd, but not horrible. Saw a lot of really well done restorations. Most were pretty impressive. I can't ... read more

We spent the last three nights in the driveway of friends Al and Mavis in the foothills east of Yuma. They have a delightful double wide cottage in the desert along with thousands of other sun worshipers in the winter months. The foothills is a very livable community and is very attractive. Most lots are improved, but some are designed for RV occupancy, for rent to snowbirds. And we weren’t actually in their driveway, but in an RV gravel pad next to their driveway, with full utility hookups, including sewer. They drove us around the area, including a visit to the Yuma Territorial Prison State Historic Park where we walked through strap-iron cells and the infamous dark cell solitary chamber. A favorite spot was lunch at Lutes Casino on Main Street; a beer and burger palace ... read more

After a few warm days in Big Bend we got back to winter’s business… We treated ourselves to a night at the Paisano, a fine old hotel in Marfa Texas, and then headed north to Fort Davis to camp and visit the McDonald Observatory. If you listen to national public radio you may have heard a short program about the stars called Star Date, which is sponsored by the University of Texas’ observatory at Fort Davis. Our afternoon tour was great, but when we went back for their nighttime program “a Star Party” the clouds had moved in. Bummer! A cold rain battered the van’s roof all that night, and the next morning we drove through 2 inches of snow to get through a remote pass. Yee-hah, the van did great! A few months ago, when ... read more

On the flight over i was unable to get much sleep, mainly because of the guys sitting next to me needing to go to the batch room every 30 mins and because of the flight attendant wearing too much cologne kept hitting my knee with the trolly! Other than that it was a good flight. Annie was at LAX waiting for me to get off the plane, so we went straight to Vegas! As i'd had a severe lack of sleep over the last 48 hours, as soon as i got to vegas i slept for a few hours then went had dinner and saw the Circue de Soleil show LOVE which was amazing! :) the next day i didnt get outta bed til 12:30ish... so Annie took me to the international house of pancakes (IHOP) ... read more

Although our plane didn't leave until 7AM, Dave was still up at 3:12 so decided to give us a call to say he was picking us up early to take us to the airport......very early on Sunday Nov 25th. The drive from Palm Springs to Yuma was long, very long, much longer than it should have been since we had no idea how to get there. Six hours after landing in Palm Springs, one iced coffee, and one Red Bull later we finally drove into Yuma in the dark. Did I forget to mention that we also had to change planes in Phoenix on the Sunday after US Thanksgiving. I didn't know that airports that are major hubs in the US have parking lots for planes where you sit on the tarmac until your gate becomes ... read more
