The Joshua Tree Forest highway is also part of the US Scenic Byways, from the little town of Wikieup a small community in the Mohave country starts the Joshua Tree Forest scenic drive. The backdrop of the rugged mountains ranges of the Hualapai and the Aquarius cliffs. A beautiful drive indeed; from Tucson to Las Vegas, we drove through the southwestern desert landscape. During the 400 plus mile drive, the country- side changed from the fairly flat typical desert terrain to the more rolling area and then the hillier landscape with its canyons around Lake Mead. But the most beautiful of the landscape came with the Joshua Tree Forrest, the rolling and winding road ahead, and the beautiful mountains in the distance. The Joshua tree National Park is named after the 'Joshua Tree', it is a ... read more

Hello from the Mother Road. Wow what a fun day. Talk about sensory overload - imagine hundreds of classic cars and thousands of car enthusiasts at a 75 mile long car show! Lots of local people lined the roads in each of the small communities we passed through just to watch the cars pass by. Corvettes are far and away the number one vehicle in the Fun Run. Hard to tell what might be 2nd - probably street rods or 50s Chevys. Lots of rare and unusual vehicles. I only saw 3 Miatas participating in the run. We only saw one Corvair and it was only in the Kingman car show and didn't drive from Seligman with us. Jeff did spot a Corvair powered three wheeled motorcycle along the way, but they were just cruising Route ... read more

Dus kozen we voor haar broer the Denny's. Het ... read more

Ever have one of those days you really wanted to remember forever? This has been the trip of a lifetime for both Grace and I because it was fairly bold and spontaneous for two people who are almost 50 going across the country on motorcycle. So when we did the planning it occured to me that we would be traveling on our anniversary. In our initial planning, we had planned to go, on our anniversary, to Lake Havisu AZ where the London Bridge has been reconstructed. We would then end our day at Needles before we would enter the daunting and scorching Mojave Desert. With some long days and some replanning, we decided to try and make up a full day by cancelling the Lake Havisu sidetrip. Instead, we left Kingman, AZ today and headed down ... read more

4th May 2009 Kingman, Arizona Well today we put off going to Las Vegas so we could see some more of "Route 66" and we are glad we did. Took off this morning and just drove, up past Valle Vista to Hackberry, what a neat little shop, lots of cars and bits and pieces, then onto Valentine, Truxton, Peach Springs which is in the Hualapai Indian nation and then on up to Grand Canyon Caverns. Went underground 210ft (didn't have to walk - they had a lift) and toured through the underground caverns - they have enough water and food stored down there for 2000 people just in case of nuclear action. Then back to "Keepers of the Wild" which is a sanctuary for wild animals, had a great guide and enjoyed every moment of our ... read more

3rd May, 2009 Up early and on the way, another fantastic sleep, temps are just right. Headed off up past lake Havasu and then on to Topock where we turned onto the famous Route 66, drove about 36 miles to Oatman, passing a Car run coming our way. Oatman is just the best little town, there where still one hell of a lot of the cars on the run still in town, narrow street and us in our 24ft RV, some guy had to guide us through the street so we didn't hit any of the fantastic cars. It's an old gold mining town, famous for its gun fights, had one at 12 noon , just closed the main street (the only street) and had a gunfight - it was great. Not only that but Burros ... read more
