April 17: Our day kinda started out last night. We found out our oldest daughter and her boyfriend had flown to Las Vegas from Edmonton Alberta. Jan and I tidied up and went to visit Cindy and Bill at C Bar J Horse Haven Rescue Ranch. We took tons of photos and had a great visit. We opted for lunch at Canyon Cafe to update our travel blog. I did some gardening. I tore out a dozen Cholla cacti. They are tough. So tough I broke my hedge trimmers cutting off branches. Jan weeded and cleaned up our little garden with barrel cacti and a bird of paradise tree. I had transplanted two fishtail barrel cacti as well. Julie and Gil showed up after dark. It was awesome to see them here from Edmonton. They headed ... read more

You can't get this close to Rt. 66 without going for a ride but when your rear tire is down below the safety limits the first ride you need to make is to the local Harley dealer. After spending the morning at Mother Road HD in Kingman, getting some new rubber and finding that my rear brake pads were 90% gone (did I mention getting the mandatory Mother Road tee-shirts) we spent the afternoon breaking in the new brakes and getting the rubber dirty. Riding the Historic Rt.66 across the desert and through the hills was pretty thrilling and as you ride you can only imagine what it must have been like back in the days when it was only dirt and rock. We found an iconic diner along the way and stopped for burgers and ... read more

April 15: Windy and cool day right from the start. Had a 10 am brunch and a 1:30 pm lunch. In between, Jan stained most of the addition. I built shelves and finishing touches to the addition as well. Went to town mid afternoon, met up with Lewis at the Canyon Cafe. He introduced us to a friend, Georgia. Jim called to say he was back home in New York. Came home and Jan made dinner. Quiet evening gown at home. Actually needing get to wear a jacket. April 16: A full day planned, we started out at 9 am after breakfast. There was a cattle round up at the corner of Pierce Ferry Road and highway 93. So we stopped there for Jan to take a bunch of photos. We drove up to Boulder City ... read more

April 13: Started off the day at 7 am Nice and sunny. I moved the 12 volt electrical to the utility room before breakfast. Also built a new exterior landing and steps and another storage shelf. Sunny and temperatures in low 80's (upper 20's). Lewis dropped in for a short visit. We went to town mid afternoon for water, ice, and groceries. We had BBQ'd pork chops for dinner. Also blueberries and whip cream. April 14: Big plans for today. We had breakfast at Canyon Cafe before 7 am and then went to Kingman to the bank then drove I 40 to Lake Havasu. We spent a long time at London Bridge. We went on the short ferry ride to the casino in California side and back, just for the view. Then we drove around the ... read more

April 10: Rainy day but we got a few things done in the morning, then we went to Kingman for some more materials for the utility shelter. It poured cats and dogs in Kingman. It was our first ever monsoon. Water was gushing over the road, in places 30 cm or 1 foot deep. We went to Walmart for a couple of floor mats and a lantern for more light. We went to Home Depot for some sheathing and other building material, and then stopped at Baskin Robin’s for ice cream. So yummy! Lewis texted and invited us over for homemade soup, so we didn't have to make dinner. We came home after dark. The weather was beginning to clear up April 11: Slept in until 8:30 am. Had coffee and pancakes and eggs. Worked on ... read more

April 8: Started to rain during the night. Yesterday’s clouds were tell tale to the much needed rain. We covered a few things with a tarp in the utility shelter, and then went to town for breakfast. The Wishing Well was closed temporarily for whatever reason so we went again to Canyon Café. Also cancelled out on going to the horse rescue ranch. There is a 'wash' out their way that can easily flood. Add to that the brush fire along the highway to London Bridge we have a lazy day shaping up. A day of raining. We picked up Jim’s luggage at the adobe and drove to Kingman. We drove out on Rute 66 to Hackberry and spent time at the Hackberry General Store. We did see the sun a few times but the thunderstorms ... read more

Up and at it early. I got the walls up for the utility shelter. I had coffee while working on it. It was cooler for the morning but warmed up to 99 F (37 C) by 12 noon. Jan made a great breakfast...bacon, eggs, hash browns with toast and jam. We were able to hook up the generator to recharge our large battery. We went over to Slim's place for cherry pie and visited for several hours. We went to the Meditation Circle which is part of the Dolan Springs hiking trail system, after having a late lunch of salad at Canyon Cafe. Came home and Jan made yams and green beans to go with my barbecued pork chops and garlic toast. It was the first barbecue of the season. This is also Jim's last night ... read more

April 4: We got up at our usual time. Jim and I went on a one mile walk before breakfast. I made a list of building materials that I needed and picked up Lewis to go to Kingman after breakfast. It was a busy day. Fueled up the truck, went to the Wells Fargo bank, then to Walmart and Home Depot for lumber. We met up with Jim's friends, Merle and Jean at Rutherford Restaurant for a late lunch (2:30 pm). Merle was driving his new car. A1951 Ford Fairlane. When we were done we came back to Dolan Springs, and sat outside until 8:30 pm then went to bed. April 5: We were up at 6 am to do a photo shoot of abandoned boats on the desert. Then I organized to build a shelter ... read more
