Dylan and I are settling down now. We are in our second week, and work is going well. They tell me daily how much they appreciate me. If you are interested in where I am and what we are doing, please check out our web site at Frontier Excursions . I am the office manager. We take reservations, dispatch, pay the bills, etc. My friend Linda and four others are driver/guides on the tours. I've visited the local SBC the past two Sunday's. You can check out the information on them at Taiya River . The couple are home missionaries. We have morning service on Sunday and Bible study on Thursday night following a free meal. They are very nice people. I hope to get to know them better. The only problem I have is that ... read more

Just want to make a quick little note that we are in Skagway, Alaska now. Our phones are a not working as of now so we either have to resolve something with that company or get another one. Internet is a little limited for now but should be more easily accessible once all the shops are opened. Everyone here is gearing up for the season; making touch-ups on the paint and having all displays well displayed. I wiped the dust off a banister at the hotel today; it's a mess there but it's opening next week so it'll just have to transform. So, just wanted to state that our communications are somewhat down, but we'll get more accessible. When we can use my laptop we'll add the rest of the pictures and maybe make some notes ... read more

It has now been sunny and beautiful in Juneau, Alaska for 7 days. Yes, you heard me right...7 days!! I'm not sure I've even seen Juneau this beautiful (and warm already -- it was 55 degrees outside) for so many straight days in the spring for the past three years that I have been here. With the warm weather and the sun, the inhabitants of Juneau have officially come out of hiding, are frequently visiting every possible beach or lookout spot towards the end of the road, and just enjoying the beautiful orb that has graced us with its presence (and right before the crazy camera-obsessed tourists come!!). It's interesting to note too that the sun came at just the right time when the power control towers got knocked out by an avalanche (yes, you heard ... read more

I arrived safely in Skagway, AK on Friday, April 25, 2008. It was a trying trip, but successful! God was true to His word and cared for us, even though our things were in sad shape. But then, they are just things! I was greeted warmly when I arrived. I have been given a cabin for now (probably moving into a small 5th wheel trailer this weekend), but I am warm, fed, clean and working! Dylan is fine. He was a little traumatized for a while, and still might be if he had to go near a U-haul truck again, but he is happy to be with Mom! By the third day in the truck, Dylan was ready for a change! It has rained every day we have been here, and it is cold, but the ... read more

My family recently moved back up to Alaska to a little 306-person village on the Bering Sea, just across the Bering Strait from Russia. There is a small clinic in the village, where my mom works. One day, a musher pulled by several sled dogs ran past the clinic entrance, just two feet in front of the stairs. A small black puppy was sitting at the foot of the steps. For who-know-what reason, one of the sled dogs bit the puppy in the stomach. The other dogs smelled the blood and went in for the kill, leaving a shredded, mauled puppy laying in the snow. A little Eskimo girl came over and drug the tiny body around the corner of the clinic, leaving a trail of blood in the snow.... read more

Now everyone knows that the weather in the Alaskan Southeast can be kind of blah! But for three days, we were finally blessed with some much needed sunshine as people broke out of their homes, raced to the beaches (rocky and muddy and some still covered in snow) with their dogs, and enjoyed being outside even though the temperature only reached a high of 48. We even got to see the Northern Lights one night (faintly)!! I managed to snap a few pictures before the sun sadly went away. They are from Echo Cove, Eagle Beach, and Auke Bay!!... read more

March: In Like a Lion, Out Like a Lamb I first heard this expression in grade school used to describe the transition of weather from winter to spring that occurs in March, but more than anything else this year, this expression accurately describes our month of March. In Like a Lion The lion got a head start during the last few days of February. Laura had actually been feeling much better. This gave us some confidence that we would be able to make it through my knee surgery the following week. Laura was feel so well that she went to church on Feb 22. She realized partway through the service that she had bitten off more than she could chew, but she soldiered on and we only left a few minutes early. Overall, she was glad ... read more

We left Kona and said our good-byes. Then we arrived in Honolulu around 7-ish p.m. We had some Burger King aka BK for dinner. After getting some grub, we walked around the airport. We went into this store, can't remember what it was called, but it had lots of make-up and perfume. Tasha, Mary and Saulina went in there to try on some cool stuff and some good smelling perfume. Jen came furiously, looking for us, telling the three of us that we had to go to our gate. When it came to about 10 p.m., we started to board the plane. Once we got seated and was pulling away from the gate, Mary realized she forgot her Pocahontas pillow. She asked Saulina, "Do you have my pillow?" And Saulina was like, "No, why would ... read more

Wow, I can't believe how long it has been since I have updated my travelblog. Although I haven't done a whole lot of extensive traveling lately, there has definately been a lot of news to add to my blog. Life has been...crazy since last September. With roommate drama, school drama (somehow I got academically dropped after going to North Carolina), and some family sadness, I am back to keep updating my blog because this coming summer is going to be full of traveling!! I have still been in Juneau, Alaska since last August though after my LONG roadtrip through Canada. Juneau is still one of the most beautiful places I have ever seen. I still need to learn though...Alaska equals camera. There have been some early mornings over the past couple weeks that I've seen gorgeous ... read more
