I am just testing to see if this works and am getting a link for people to be able to find this blog. I am going to try and post once a day and will try to upload as many photos as possible to document the trip. Feel free to comment if you would like, not sure how it works, but I think there is an option. -MJ... read more

It has been a while since my last update and so much has happened - I also did not have internet connectivity while cruising on the Inner passage which meant maintaining a blog was always going to be difficult. Since the last blog I have been to : 1) Vancouver Island, Canada - splendid memories of the hotel we stayed in - the Fairmont Empress built some 100 years ago and the famous Butchart Gardens in place for over 103 years. 2) Vancouver - High density city with the special memories being the Capalino suspension bridge and the Lion Gate bridge 3) The Inner passage cruise over 7 days which started in Vancouver and finished in Seward, Alaska - special memories of the the ship which carried 2700 paying passengers and 1300 cruise staff, a sea ... read more

Our last days in Anchorage were spent in a combination of seeing interesting natural and cultural sites, and doing the practical things we needed to do for moving on, like grocery shopping and changing oil in the truck. Ron and I went to the Alaska Native Heritage Center; the other four took a tram ride to see Denali from above (turned out to be a clear day for them!). We ended the day by sharing food and comparing notes about our day. I will let the photos below do the talking.... read more

Today while I did laundry and cleaned the inside of the trailer, Joe cleaned the outside. Then it was time to tag team and give the dogs their baths. Since today was our last day in a big camp in Alaska, we all decided having a "goodbye Alaska" BBQ was what we needed to do for dinner. Salmon, steaks, hamburgers, beans, camp potatoes and mixed vegetables were the menu. Of course we had to have dessert so Jon and Joyce provided the banana cream pie. Our goal 3 months ago was to see as much of Alaska as we could in 5 weeks, and we all agreed we did just that. While the 3 months seems to have flown by, all I have to do is talk to the grandkids back home and I am reminded ... read more

After a quick trip to Costco and Walgreens for last minute stuff, we took a look at the weather and headed out. First stop was Beluga Point. A great place to watch the tide come in at the Cook Inlet. Then we headed farther down south to Mount Alyeska (spelled correctly this time). It was a gorgeous day and the temperature could not have been better. The view from the top of the mountain, via the tram, was yet another beautiful Alaskan site. We finally were able to see some doll sheep but they were kind of high up the mountain so the pictures are not that great...... read more

We had intended to go up to Mount Aleaska to ride the tram today, but a front came in and there were clouds everywhere most of the day. Instead we went to the local community market and then had lunch at Moose Tooth Pizza and Brewery. It truly was the best pizza of this whole trip. Then it was off to the commissary to do our grocery shopping. We have food in every nook and cranny in our rig. Food prices in Canada are crazy ($8.00 for a gal. of milk). Since we can't do much about the $6.60 a gal. gas prices, at least we hope to not have to buy many groceries during the three weeks we will be traveling down through Canada.... read more

Today was infusion day so I spent most of the day at the base hospital doing my thing. The staff there were great and I even ran into a Captain I worked with at Wilford Hall a couple of years ago. I did get some awesome salmon and halibut recipes from the nurse and another patients also getting an infusion. Tomorrow we go see what Anchorage has to offer.... read more

We bid a fond farewell to Homer; we had ALL fallen in love with the place and its beautiful sea and bay proximity, sights, smells and sounds. Drove here (in two days) to the Golden Nugget RV Park, across the street from Costco, east of downtown Anchorage. Carolyn spent most of morning doing laundry! Then we headed to Palmer, about 40 miles from here, to visit the gallery of Alaskan artist Shane Lamb. His photography and painting of the the Denali area is so lovely and memorable that we bought a framed piece that we will hang in our home. (It won't be shipped until after we get home.) Ate lunch at a picnic table at the Palmer Farmer's Market before heading back here to camp ground. Pictures today are of Homer Spit from Skyline Drive ... read more

... read more
