Many Americans enjoy turkey, stuffing, and pumpkin pie on Thanksgiving. My family and I, however, enjoyed Mexican food as we traveled to Mexico during my Thanksgiving break. Ever since Chicharito waved at me at a soccer game, I have acquired a love for Mexico-the country even being my second favorite national soccer team after Brazil. But anyway, the first night we stayed in Mexico City with my dad’s friend, Ralph, and his wife and son, the latter of which has an impressive collection of soccer jerseys. We arrived later in the day, so we walked a bit to a restaurant for dinner in this large sqaure to end the night. The next day we drove to a town called Tequisquiapan, but before that we visited Teotihuacan which I think is a very fun word to say. ... read more

Guadalajara was the first time I had worked remotely in another country, which resulted in its own set of problems. Things I take for granted like phones, credit cards, and online deliveries suddenly became a problem. I will need to figure out how to set up a dual sim card for future travel, so I can still have people contact me from home while using a local provider for data. I had all kinds of problems with my credit/debit cards, either not working because of PINs, not being able to use them online, or not being accepted everywhere. Finally, Amazon in Mexico has nothing to be worried about with IKEA. I ordered a desk through IKEA, but the whole delivery process was a complete disaster. I ended up ordering a new one through Amazon, which went ... read more

We stayed at Ralph’s other house in Tequisquiapan, which was very pretty. At night, we walked to the city’s center and had dinner. A musician played music for us and found a particularly zealous fan in my sister who danced to his tunes. We went back to the house to which I had a not-so-great night of sleep because my precious father snores like he is being paid to (Do not exclude that Michael Holzer). In the morning we had breakfast in a nearby restaurant where I discovered that I don’t mind papaya as long as I eat it with another fruit and then we proceeded to a champagne winery. Of course, it wasn’t champagne because France is stingy, and it wasn’t a winery because it isn’t really wine, but it was a place where they ... read more

We are in Cabo San Lucas. This is our first time here. We chose Cabo because they do not have a problem with gangs or drug lords and they are keeping their Covid cases low. We flew here on Southwest but at the airport I see planes from every major airline. We rented a car and drove to Cabo. We took the toll road and there was very little traffic. We rented an Airbnb one block from the beach, it is large and has a large balcony roo. It also has underground parking. We decide to walk along the beach to the Marina. The Sea and the beach are both clean. The sand is fine and soft. Cabo is located where the Pacific meets the Sea of Cortez. The water is 81 and the weather is ... read more

Sold my boat last year and moved to Las Vegas. After a year decided to leave and head back to Virginia. Looked for real estate but it was way to expensive so decided to try out Mexico and wait out the price of land and houses for a year. Through some connections I decided on San Miquel de Allende In central Mexico. There is a large expat community, the weather is excellent and prices are fairly reasonable Although I understand that there are less populated towns near here that are cheaper. I stayed a week at the Real de Minas hotel and found an apartment to rent that I like in a safe location at a decent price. I believe I can live here on less than my retirement fixed income. The people I have met ... read more

"The bad news is times flies, the good news is you're the pilot". ~ I think I gave you all enough time in between blogs not to bore you too much. :) Since my blog of Sept. 12th, I can say this work & pleasure trip to the fab Riviera Maya, Mexico, has had a little bit of everything mixed in. Kind of like a tasty jambalaya; a one-pot comfort food that satisfies the soul. That is what this trip felt like for us. Being away from our second home for so long due to Covid made it all the sweeter to return. It felt like a dream after the past year & a half when our world had become so small. No family visits, no hugs, no holidays with loved ones... So to be able ... read more

"Life Is a Beach; Don't Make Spelling Errors". ~ Hello friends; geez after almost 2 years of not posting a blog, I'm now up to two. I've gone crazy altogether. Time is passing by in a nice quiet way here with me working on the business with new ideas, & I've been touring the condos to see what updates have been done. Lots of changes in 18 months. I met up with our managers to get an understanding of what challenges they're facing these days & how we can improve some things. We LOVE the staff here. They greeted us so warmly & welcomed us back. We haven't done any touring around yet due to work & weather. I work from a secure software so I can't be riding the waves somewhere without my laptop. So ... read more

"Sometimes life changes in an instant. We can't always prepare for it, but we can change how we respond." Holy crap batman, what an 18 month ride we've all been through. If someone told you a pandemic was about to hit the winter of 2020, you'd have thought you'd watched the movie Contagion too many times. It eerily depicted this similar pandemic. If you haven't seen it, be prepared. The film follows the spread of a virus transmitted when sick humans touch surfaces and leave the virus behind that others can catch. Then there's the frantic attempts by the health officials to identify it and control it. Seems familiar right? I won't give the ending away... We're a family of 7 and I will say our young adults totally respected the protocols through the worst of ... read more

http://www.heygo.com 3rd March - The Pyramid of Cholula - Dedicated to the god Quetzalcoatl in the San Andrés Cholula, Puebla municipality of Mexico. Originally constructed over 2000 years ago, the Great Pyramid of Tepanapa (often referred to as the Great Pyramid of Cholula) boasts a larger volume than any other ancient, man-made structure including the Egyptian pyramids. Stylistically, the pyramid is an oddity, puzzling archeologists to this day by incorporating architectural elements of both the Teotihuacan and El Tajin civilizations. During the many pre-Columbian power shifts in Mexico, the pyramid itself fell out of use in favor of other structures, such as one of the many sacrificial altars on the ten-acre site. It is unclear whether it was through disuse that the pyramid became overgrown with shrubbery, or if, when the Aztecs caught w... read more
