Thursday, June 20, 2013 - Montezuma has begun his revenge! Mary's recuperating from it, Geoff felt run down - like he was getting it, I was up throughout the night with a bucket and the toilet - nice. Hopefully, the other half of our family won't get it. It's good to have hope! We're very thankful for your prayers. The Center is open Monday - Friday, so we only have today and Friday to work there and to keep getting to know people in the San Rafael neighborhood and the staff. No time for sickness! There's something to be said about a simple morning with our family. The ocean waves are gently singing, there's nice shade on the patio, the kids play in the sand under the umbrella. It's mellow, sweet, and harmonious...except for the unearthly ... read more

We wanted to make sure we introduced some of our friends. Mark and Karen Higgins are awesome and amazing! We've loved getting to know them and working alongside them at the Center. Here's their ministry information below. You can read up about their work in San Rafael and if you want to you can send a donation too. **Mark and Karen Higgins, Living Stones Ministry - Mexico, P.O. I keep waking up between 5 and 6 each morning - poor Geoff! This morning as I was blogging, Pearl comes into our room to say her sissy needs us. Mary has not been feeling well and sure enough her stomach was hurting. The girls have taken such good care of each other on this trip. Yesterday - early morning - Mary woke up and didn't see Pearl on the bed. She ran in to get us and we found Pearl sleeping under the bed. We had piled pillows and cushions on Pearl's side of the bed in case she fell off. The first night she fell she woke up and cried. So we added more blankets. This time it was so cozy she just kept sleeping! During breakfast when Mary told the boys that Pearl ... read more

Tuesday, June 18, 2013 - I'm happy to say our amigo, Benny, did show up with fresh tortillas for the family this morning and of course we enjoyed buying some of his tourist items too. No time to haggle too much though - we were off to the Center by 9am. Mark had Geoff and the kids jump right into the garden and harvest corn, chop down stalks and plant new seeds. I worked with Eneida and the children that showed up that morning for a Bible lesson. Mark and Karen's 19th wedding anniversary is today, too. Not much extra time for the missionaries to celebrate though. Meetings, people to serve, classes and activities to manage - nonstop needs - WOW! We worked all morning and came in for the message. Andres shared in Spanish and ... read more

It's Sunday, June 16, 2013 - Church in Mexico. We worshipped at Mark and Karen's church "La Samaritana Buena" the Good Samaritan. We met Pastor Edgar and his wife, Alma, and their kids. We also met Eneida, who works at the Center, and her kids - Alexia, Rodrigo, y Zabie. Pearl and Zabie were fast friends - both 2 and 3 years old. Pastor Edgar preached about Joseph, Mary's husband, being a good father who loved God and obeyed him. It was really great to be worshipping all together on Father's Day, but what's even extra cool is that Geoff and Kai and I had just learned about Mary's husband last week in Youth Group. Our summer 5th/6th Grade Youth Group series is "Unsung Heroes from the Bible". Last week I chose Joseph, Mary's husband, to ... read more

Saturday, June 15, 2013 - Geoff and I were up and showered before 4am to get everyone out the door to the airport. All 4 of our kids woke up HAPPY - UNBELIEVEABLE!! Our dear friend Kelley squeezed in driving us to the airoport at 4:30 before she ran her 15 miles that morning - THANK YOU!!!! We even flew to Salt Lake City with Mary's teacher who happened to be on our first flight with us - very fun! Our family's seats were not together but with some prayers and some kind people we at least got to sit in groups of two. Great flight! An almost 3 hour layover in SLC turned into McDonald's breakfast and riding the flat escalator thingymajig back and forth, racing. Of course that was way too fun and Pearl ... read more

Karen told us they serve lunch after the 1pm message so we planned on being at the Center around 12:30pm for our first time there. That gave us all morning to enjoy the beach and water. I guess part of the luxury of being on any vacation is having the Mom and Dad's full-time attention for the kids - it's been extra wonderful - at least for Geoff and I. :) Mary's gotten her hair braided and combed more than she'd ever care for, but she's coming around! Pearl doesn't mind it as much. It's really been fun for me to braid both my daughters' hair in the mornings! Remember how yesterday's blog ended with our prayer as a family to have more laughter. Well, I woke up early today and read from "Jesus Calling" by ... read more

We are at the end of our four days in Puerto Penasco, Mexico, also known as Rocky Point. We have long wanted to see what this "beach front part of Phoenix" was like, knowing that it was once a place to camp on deserted beaches and watch whales and dolphins frolic, and now has possibly more highrises than downtown Phoenix. We are visiting friends in Phoenix, and drove with them to Puerto Penasco (PP from now on in this entry). It would be more complicated getting there without your own car... The drive took about four hours, and is through beautiful desert and few small towns. The border crossing into Mexico is uncomplicated and we weren't asked to show our passports. They did ask if some of the clothes we brought were for resale...! (Maybe Cindy ... read more

My good friend Will and I headed south into Mexico this week. We were about 40 miles south of Puerto Penasco on the Sea of Cortez. Will and I met in the 90s in a series of real estate transactions. We fast became friends and have remained friends since. I also met a few of Will's new friends: Bob, Paul, and Terry. ... read more
