So it has been a week and a half since I have blogged. Oops! I know, I am slacking. Please forgive me! On the other hand, we have been incredibly busy the last little bit. I have been avidly working on getting the sponsorship information for the kids here updated. It is amazing how time consuming it is to get photos of 58 kids and get them all to fill out this little bio. Then I have to translate them all into English, format them, edit the pictures, make it into Oaxaca city to print them at Sam's, create a border and something to make it look pretty on the board and then finally get everything up! It took about 2 weeks with everything. BUT - as of today at 5:30, there is an updated sponsorship ... read more

This blog entry, although not posted until February 6, was meant to be up over a week ago. I sat down at the end of a long day last weekend and spent 2 hours putting together my thoughts and memories for the previous two weeks only to have everything disappear when I was trying to save! I have learned my lesson though: The Internet is not reliable. Ever. So, here goes my attempt at re-writing last week’s weekly update for you :) Enjoy! These past two weeks have been extremely busy! However, it really feels as though Jess and I are started to get settled here at the home and used to our lives in Oaxaca. If I could summarize my experiences here I would have to say…. Educational A lot has been learned as we ... read more

I can not believe it has been a week since the last time I've updated! In some ways, that's a good thing - for me anyways because it means I am keeping busy. This week has been all about assimilation (that is my word for the day...so im using it as much as I can!) Things here at the home were pretty busy over the last week. Leah and I had our first group come in on Wednesday. Then over the next day and a half, we had several board members and another couple come in to town including Charla and Peter. It was great to meet some of these people that I have heard such great things about! But I will get to that in a moment. The first group of girls who came in ... read more

So Leah and I experienced our first Oaxacan miracle over the weekend! We decided Saturday was a good day to head into the city and explore the Zocalo and city center a bit more so we can have a good idea of whats there and where we can take groups when then come. We are both still extremely reluctant to drive here (I have driven all of twice and Leah has yet to experience the driving here - and on top of that, I have only ever driven into Tlacolula. That's a bit of a difference from Oaxaca city! So we asked around and got some information on how to bus/taxi into the city. Estela gave us some directions in Spanish and told us to look for a big yellow thing. That didn't seem all too ... read more

Someone at the home told me today that we all experience miracles each and every day. Most of the time we just don't realize it becuase we are so involved with our own lives and our own selves. Paige said that she was going to try to focus more on the little things that we experience every day that bring us closer to God. I think I'm going to make that one of my goals from now on as well. God is present all the time and the little things (like flowers blooming or the sun rising) are just as incredible as the big things. With that said, Jess and I had a pretty incredible experience this weekend that is just too crazy not to share with you. It all started when we made our first ... read more

One week has passed bringing much excitement (and stress) - you can read Jess's blog here for more details from the first few days. Can I say the trip has officially begun!? If I could summarize the week in one word it would have to be.....overwhelming Yes, definitely overwhelming. Between being thrown into a home where I can't communicate with the majority of the residents, to being asked to drive in a foreign country with unforgiving drivers, to sitting through a four and a half hour church service completely in spanish, I think that feeling a little overwhelmed is very justified. I would say my biggest struggle right now is the language barrier. I am having a really hard time communicating with both the staff and the children and am finding it extremely frustrating. I have ... read more
