Alright. It is time to bite the bullet. It is getting something started that often seems to be the hardest thing. That is definitely true about this blog entry. I have been putting it off and putting it off because I know it will take so long to update you all on all the amazing things that have been happening down here in the last 2 months. But there is this darn Catch 22 happening where the longer I wait to update, the more I have to write about. Darn time and passing by so quickly! Things here have been progressing. A lot of changes have happened in the last couple of months. I’m sure as I write this out and have the experiences of the last couple months in text, I will realize how much ... read more

I know I say this every time - but where has the time gone? I seem to keep adding a week between entries each time. I am going to make it my resolution not to go more than a month without updating. That is just too long! I've been meaning to update for about the last two weeks - and well every time I mean to - something comes up. Whether its playing cards and building better relationships with Jill and Janelle, using Skype which finally works now that we've moved into the University girls house, or let's be honest, watching some "How I Met Your Mother" then passing out, the hour and a bit it takes to type this all up just seemed to keep disappearing! Oops. Well, now I am getting my butt in ... read more

I have to say, it is hard to believe it is March 1. At times it feels like I just got here, and at other times it feels like I have been here for a while now. Everything here seems to be falling into more and more of a routine. Devotions at 8, tasks in the morning, snack, work, lunch, pick up the kids, go to the post office, translate, avoid Spanish homework, end up doing Spanish homework and then depending on the night, the evening activities kick in. Following that, Leah and I sit down, enjoy some fake Oreos and watch an episode of How I Met You Mother on my ever aging laptop before crawling into our bunk beds (which we continually hit our heads on) and passing out for the evening. Sounds fun ... read more

Well the entry title says it all! I am officially exhausted! It has been quite the week. The last time I updated, we had the KBC group arrive and at work here in the home. That was nice to have some familiar faces here - but also very busy! Leah is working as the groups coordinator, but while they are here, I am along for the ride in helping with their weekend touring and night time activity. This group was really good in terms of what they were doing at night because often they just did their group devotionals and headed to bed. But last weekend was definitely full - and fun! Last Saturday we ventured over to Monte Alban which is one of the largest and most well preserved Zapotec ruins in the area (or ... read more

So it has been a week and a half since I have blogged. Oops! I know, I am slacking. Please forgive me! On the other hand, we have been incredibly busy the last little bit. I have been avidly working on getting the sponsorship information for the kids here updated. It is amazing how time consuming it is to get photos of 58 kids and get them all to fill out this little bio. Then I have to translate them all into English, format them, edit the pictures, make it into Oaxaca city to print them at Sam's, create a border and something to make it look pretty on the board and then finally get everything up! It took about 2 weeks with everything. BUT - as of today at 5:30, there is an updated sponsorship ... read more

I can not believe it has been a week since the last time I've updated! In some ways, that's a good thing - for me anyways because it means I am keeping busy. This week has been all about assimilation (that is my word for the day...so im using it as much as I can!) Things here at the home were pretty busy over the last week. Leah and I had our first group come in on Wednesday. Then over the next day and a half, we had several board members and another couple come in to town including Charla and Peter. It was great to meet some of these people that I have heard such great things about! But I will get to that in a moment. The first group of girls who came in ... read more

So Leah and I experienced our first Oaxacan miracle over the weekend! We decided Saturday was a good day to head into the city and explore the Zocalo and city center a bit more so we can have a good idea of whats there and where we can take groups when then come. We are both still extremely reluctant to drive here (I have driven all of twice and Leah has yet to experience the driving here - and on top of that, I have only ever driven into Tlacolula. That's a bit of a difference from Oaxaca city! So we asked around and got some information on how to bus/taxi into the city. Estela gave us some directions in Spanish and told us to look for a big yellow thing. That didn't seem all too ... read more

Well the rest of week 1 brought more time to adjust and experience more of life within the home - and Oaxaca for that matter. Tuesday night we did make it into Oaxaca City. We parked and got to walk around the Zokolo (city center) a bit. We were on a bit of a time constraint because we were set to meet Ricardo (one of the house parents here) and his father-in-law Keith, who had just driven back down from Seattle! Ricardo's wife Andrea also works here at the home, and she had her baby 2 months early when they went to visit family at home in Seattle. So it was a big reunion night for everyone. We met Ricardo and Keith for dinner at Don Juanito's, which was a nice little restaurant right near the ... read more

Well, its now Monday night. We made it through the first weekend, not to mention the church opening! There have been a lot of changes over the last few days! Its been really neat to get to meet the people working here at Casa Hogar and the children that this ministry is affecting directly. To those of you who were wondering, our bags did make it in! Leah and I took a trip back into Oaxaca city with Ian on Friday night. Friday was actually quite the eventful day! We met with Janelle and Jill in the morning and they gave us a run down on the home, the procedures and our new jobs. Before we came, we had been told that I would be handling groups and Leah would be in charge of sponsorship. Well, ... read more

I am in Oaxaca! Phew! What a crazy day. Almost didn’t leave Canada, sprinted to 3 different planes and don’t have any of my luggage! We are off to an amazing start! In Ottawa there were issues with not having a return ticket – something that we checked on in depth – but apparently got slews of misinformation. Leah and I ended up having to purchase and entire new ticket this morning! (Thankfully its refundable and once everything is worked out, we should be good to go!) So after this mishap and a WAY too quick goodbye to the people who mean soooo much to me, we were sprinting to our first plane. Well, the plane ended up being delayed once we got on it. They had a crew member change up. How lame is that! ... read more
