Hello everyone. Buenas Dias! I'm writing another blog to family, friends, and colleagues about my travels in Mexico. Yes, I've begun yet another journey to satisfy my wanderlust. This time I'm a participant in the "Partners in Education 2010 Fulbright-Hays Group Projects Abroad" program which is taking place in Cuernavaca, Mexico, a city one hour south of Mexico City. Many thanks to Dr. Colleen Ebacher and Dr. Ronn Pineo from Towson University for the opportunity. I arrived in Cuernavaca on Sunday, three days ago. We've been, to say the least, very busy. Generally, we start the day with Spanish language classes, break for a quick lunch at noon (they don't really have lunch here; it's more like a snack) , attend lectures/field trips until 3 p.m., go to our homestays (more on that later) for "lunch" ... read more

Another day of salsa class and 2 for 1 pizzas down. I actually did awesome today, i turned just fine! I think it was because he didn´t show us again in detail how to turn, so i just turned like i used to with my friends back home, and it worked. There were more people this time, last time it was just us 3 girls so he had to dance with each of us 1 turn at a time lol but this time the place was packed. My classes are going ok. I just keep thinking "you are only here for 2.5 more weeks, you can do this!!!" lol because buisness is such a boring subject, and i don´t even understand the world of finance in english so how am i supposed to understand it in ... read more

I´ve felt comfortable since the start, but I feel more and more accustomed to the country and the culture every day. Last night, my mamá was at a party with some friends, and my roomate and I were hungry, so we decided to go on an adventure! We stayed close to the house, but we wanted to find a little taqueria or something just to get a quick bite to eat. So we made our way to the friendly neighborhood walmart, and along the way we passed by this nice homely looking place. The owner talked to us like we´d been friends for a long time, it was welcoming. Anyway, like I do with most restaurants I go to here, I just kinda chose something completely random from the menu, and ended up loving it. Couldn´t ... read more

Hello family, reading my blog. As you can tell from the title, i only have 20 minutes to tell you what i have done in 4 days. I´ll probably just tell you about my first weekend here, and then when i have a chance to write some more thursday, i´ll let u know how my classes are. Well, as soon as we started making our decent into Mexico city, it was as if the earth was carpeted in appartments, buildings, etc. Mexico City is H-U-G-E! i was fine getting my luggage, and customs was not that big of a deal. the airport was interesting. Its full of 711´s, and burger kings. No more than 5 minutes of me being there did some vatos pass by looking at me as if i was a piece of meat ... read more

Pues, es mi segunda semana aqui and I’ve scarcely spoken English since I’ve been here except with family and those students who are still very new to Spanish. Overall I’m having a good time speaking full tilt Espanol with the taxistas, maestros, and especially my host family who couldn’t be lovelier and accommodating! I’m eating more here than I eat at home! I took the bus to Taxco this past weekend and didn’t speak a word of English until 9 Sun evening after the families incredible father’s day dinner. That’s when I was finally able to call home and talk with my girls. Taxco is a sweet little town in a charming setting but is also a huge tourist magnet so it’s very occupied with traffic. Speaking of traffic-if there are crazier drivers in the world ... read more

I´m back from my salsa class. My instructor Edgar is quite attractive..... QUITE (long division mom lol). I´ve danced salsa before with some Latino boyfriends from work, like at parties and stuff, so i felt pretty confident going into a free instruction. I normally turn with ease, but when he showed me the actual steps on how to turn and where my feet should be etc, i... completely.... messed.... up lol. i was doing fine by myself, but then when i danced with him, couldn´t do it! His girlfiend is una gringa. Que lastima! (too bad). Well where was i.... ummm so saturday, we had our actual orientation at the school, and we did the tour, met some important people and some teachers, and then we went to EL CENTRO! El centro is... well, the center ... read more

My first day of school went very well after getting their through the typically chaotic Mexican traffic in the busy AM's. Something funny on the way in that a "camioncito"-pickup truck, full of plastic trunks filled with iced down chickens, lost two trunks so there was ice and chicken in the street. One of the trabajadors got out of the truck, picked it all up and put it back in the trunks, through them back onto the truck and off to market they went!! Nothing goes to waste here!!! The school is beautiful, the classes are lively, I’m the old guy and most of the young ones would rather revert back to English when not in class-not me! I’ve spent every day since arrival talking non-stop in Spanish with everyone! My host family is wonderful and ... read more
