The trip is winding down and I'm torn between fantasizing about cranberry juice and loved ones back home and focusing on living in the moment while I'm here. It seems to have gone by fast, yet when I think back to things that happened at the beginning of the trip, it seems so long ago. With that said, let the adventures continue. This past weekend was a day trip to Guanajuato. The city is in another state in Mexico. Our bus ride was only about 3 hours long, which seemed like nothing compared to Acapulco! We arrived and checked out an old Catholic Church. The altars where very intricately carved and ornamented in wood. It is hard for me to get into looking at these churches, which are prevelant all over Mexico, possibly because I don't ... read more

The title of this entry is the name of a stretch of highway between Durango and Mazatlan, for about sixty miles its just back to back twisty turns through the mountains. The first fifty miles were great since the pavement was dry, but a drenching rain just took all the fun out of it for the last ten miles into El salto, a small town between the two cities. Im in guanajuato after riding every day for past five days. lots of variation in weather, from hot desert floor to chilled rain. bikes running well, keeping that chain really well lubed. Ill be heading toward mexico city tomorrow, probably make it most of the way. after that itll be down to oaxaca then onward south from there. On the first day of my ride from los ... read more

Guanajuato Guanajuato is without a doubt the most beautiful city in Mexico, built in a shallow but steep-sided valley, the city is built up the sides of the hills. It is also the first town I´ve visited here in Mexico (and almost the first in whole of Latin America) not to be built on the traditinal Spanish grid system, so Anne and I spent some of our time here just getting lost in the miles and miles of gorgeous little back-alleys all complete with steps, high walls and lovely views over the city. The city is full of lovely little plazas and wide but winding tree-lined streets, the atmosphere only slightly tainted by the traffic which whizzes around the town all day and into the night belching out the traditional Mexican fumes, really the only stain ... read more

Guanajuato is a city of narrow, winding alleys, criss-crossing tunnels, stone bridges and impressive colonial architecture. The colonial heart of the city was built into the valley of a narrow ravine with most of the residential homes occupying its steep slopes and with an ever expanding network of tunnels underneath, built to ease the traffic in a city originally designed for horses. Guanajuato was build with the wealth of prosperous silver barrons and is now a thriving university town with an active nightlife. I spent four wonderful nights there. I spent my days getting lost in the maze of cobblestone alleys, every once in a while coming to a break in the buildings that allowed me to look down on the city center and get my bearings. Sometimes even being able to see a familiar structure ... read more

Guanajuato is riddled with old mine shafts and tunnels. Poke around in the dark corners and you might see the ghosts of wealthy mine owners and the weary spirits of the workers. http://www.mexconnect.com/MEX/mxc/gto.html -- travel website featuring Guanajuato http://www.guanajuato.gob.mx/ -- website for the state of Guanajuato ... read more

Hola Mi Amigos. Come Estas? We are currently in San Miguel de Allende and loving every second of it! Mainland Mexico is very different from Baja. We both have decided that Baja is Mainland Mexico's Red Headed Stepchild. The roads are better, the people are much more put together, and the sights are tremendous. Beyond Mazatlan, we highly recommend every city we have been to on the mainland, so far. So here we go... We made it out of Mazatlan pretty easily. The signs take you to where you want to go and the AAA map has done a decent job. However, the map does leave out some of the toll roads. We decided to hit up a toll road to Durango. We noticed every other car heading on the free road, but figured we would ... read more

Man let me tell ya’ll, I’ve been kickin it. So far Suzanne and I have been able to see and do a lot. Now I’m not doing it like P. Diddy but I am having a grand time all the same. On average we do something every weekend. The following entry is a typical weekend here for us. The weekend mostly starts off on Wednesdays. Wednesday night is probably one of the best nights to go out here in GTO. The best things about Wednesday nights are the bar promotions. Almost every bar here has the usual 2x30 beers ($1.50 brews) but some of the better drinking spots have even better deals. Suzanne, myself, and two of our friends went to La Juanita to “get right” and get the night rolling. This bar is real chill ... read more

Whats da deal y’all? I took a little break from the blog, but now I’m back with another insightful tale. In my time here in Guanajuanto I have seen a number of wonderful, interesting, funny and down right unexplainable things. The folks here are for the most part extremely nice and just a pleasure to be around, but it is the few that I have met or seen that are the inspiration behind this entry. To set the tone I’ll talk about my interaction with other Americans. Everyday it seems I see some guy or girl that just oozes “I’m from the U.S.A.”. The usual tell-tell signs are a big ass camera, very bad Spanish, their clothes and the fact they don’t speak when spoken to. I also came to the realization that a large majority ... read more

We went to our second wrestling match the other night here in Guanajuanto. Now since my first experience was so cool and the fact that I was dying to wear my mask in public without ridicule, I was super eager to go see this match. Me, Suzanne, Three of my teachers from school, and one other student made the trip to the outskirts of town to check it out. (Now before I go on I must say that to me these wrestling masks are the best things since sliced bread. I probably put one on everyday and flex in the mirror or just run around the house and act wild. I think that this is probably the only place in the world where I can wear a mask 365 day a year and it seem normal. ... read more
