This are going well here in San Miguel. I got the time wrong for my flight from Denver to Houston, I thought it was an hour earlier, so the start of my journey to Mexico was a little rough. I made it on time though and it was smooth sailing past that. My apartment is wonderful. The land lady (which is what I call her since I have NO idea what her name is and am now too embarrased to ask) bought some new furniature, so now there's a dining room table and a book shelf, not that I use either, since I eat most of my meals at Casa Ayuda and didn't bring any books. Things are going well at the Casa. The land looks wonderful. They have been collecting almost dead plants from their ... read more

Hi everyone! I spent the last few days in a town called Cuernavaca, then yesterday I arrived in a lovely little town called Guanajuato- I think that it´s my favourite place so far! Apart from Mexico City, I haven´t actually been to one place yet that was on my original itinery! Have been going to random places to try and avoid all these annoying hurricanes that keep coming around. So far have been very lucky and have only seen a bit of rain. Hopefully I´ll be back on track in a few days! Guanajuato is so cute. All the streets are cobbled and dinky. It is built on a mountain side, but luckily the main town area is pretty level so not too much hill walking! It´s a university town with lots of language schools which ... read more

We took a one and a half hour bus to San Miguel de Allende. It's another beautiful colonial town. We spent most of the day at La Gruta, a hot springs spa twenty minutes out of town. It was a divine way to spend the day.... read more

Today I had the full day to myself. I made an early start to the Museo y Casa de Diego Rivera. It's the house Diego and his family lived in for the first five years of his life before moving to Mexico City. They've restored his house beautifully on the first floor, the middle floor shows his works and the top floor displays the work of other artists. The middle aged man guiding people to each floor pointed to my hair, kissed his fingers and said 'guapa'. It appears people from all walks of life like the new 'do. I took the funicular up the mountain to a museum I'm not sure for what. I attempted to view it but it was one of those interactive ones where the dummies come to life with audio tapes. ... read more

We took a four hour bus to Guanajuato. The time the bus was great, the toilet was in good condition and they gave us goodie bags with snacks. On the downside, they made us sit through Mel homophobe Gibson's "The Patriot". So if you're ever having to catch a bus around Mexico, check to see if "Primero Plus" does your route. Guanajuato is absolutely beautiful. It's a colonial town but has a large university so it also has a young, bohemian feel to it. Lots of quirky cafes, bars and unusual shops. I've even seen some Mexican goths! I read that Hurricane Henriette hammered Acapulco -- good timing we left when we did -- and the storms are making their way inland so that would explain the thunder storms I can hear outside my window as ... read more

Well i'm here and it's beautiful. The weather is nice..it's cool today thanks to Dean but I can't complain at all. I have met most of the group already and everybody is nice...very differnet and from very differnet places of the US but it should be cool. I don thave much to say YET but believe you me I will after this whole thing gets going. When I arrived it was only 20 min drive from the airport to the Town and then I hate to say it but they just kind of dump you off and tell you were to be the next morning. It was okay because it has given us a chance to talk and see the city just by walking around. I miss everyone but not enough to come home lol I ... read more

There are some big differences between the way I live my life in Mexico and the way I live it in the United States. Some of the differences are cultural, some are by circumstance. Since I am immersed in Mexican culture, I live how the Mexicans live to a certain extent. Of course I get the royal treatment because I am a guest. So it's not 100% accurate. But, for example, I sit at the table for 'la comida' and I eat and eat and eat. Do I think about how many calories something has? NO. Do I worry that I will get fat? YES. Do I let that stop me from eating? No. Because my job is to enjoy the food Marina has prepared. Will I eventually have to say that I'm full? Yes. Will ... read more

Hello friends, family, and those interested in Mexico... I have had all kinds of trouble with my blog the past few weeks. Part of it was my fault and part of it was because the server crashed and they temporarily lost my previous entries. As soon as they recovered my old entries, I printed them out. So everything's better now. I also switched families at the beginning of August to be closer to downtown. My family consists of 4 grown children and 2 grandchildren. None of them are currently living in the house, although Diego comes home on the weekends. Luis and his family live nearby and eat meals with us sometimes. He has two little girls named Fernanda and Cinthia. Claudia lives with her husband in San Miguel and she is such a sweetheart. ... read more

Hello friends, Sorry I have not written in such a long time. I could not get access to this page for a week or so. I have to go to class at 5pm, so I´ll have to write more later. Here´s the beginning... My mother has come and gone already. How time flies! We had a fabulous time together. Lots of quality time. Now I´m trying to concentrate on my Spanish and on meeting new people for my last 3 weeks here. Soon I´ll be telling you about my new host home. They are a wonderful family and remind me of my friends in Panama. I especially love how my Senor likes to give me lectures about Mexico. It´s great practice for me! However I notice my new Senora, Marina, and host brother, Diego, rolling their ... read more
