Well we left LA after one night as we were keen to get to Mexico. Also, accommodation in the US is pretty pricey - US$20-$40 each per night depending on whether we get a private room or a dorm, and sometimes the dorms weren't much cheaper. At the hostel in LA we realised that it's true what they say about LA - nearly everyone is there trying to make it big in show business. It's kind of sad really. There was one guy out on the veranda with his laptop- fine-tuning a pitch to some producers for a game show idea. He'd come all the way from Brazil for the appointment. Then I got to talking to a French guy who ended up kind of freaking me out. He apparently "found himself" at a Placebo concert ... read more

Come and buy something you don t need!" "Come and give me your money!" "Come in honeymooner" Notre chauffeur d'autobus, surnomme "The King" etait tres drole. ... read more

During Spring Break this year me and my Girl Scout Troop went to Tijuana, Mexico for our Gold Award Project. (Girl's verision of Eagle Award)T We spent the week cleaning and lifting up hopes as well as learning and experiencing the Mexican culture. We want to say thank you to all of you because you helped get us there by attending our Webkinz Event, we made enough to pay for our airplane tickets, yeah!!! So following is in short what we accomplished. To get to Mexico it is a walkway or line (if driving) through a wall. No security going in, only coming back. This entarance is the only thing that separates beauty, that is California and dreary, that is Tijuana . It is amazing what one wall can do. We stayed at a house ... read more

--Sunday, March 9, 2008-- The day was a long one. It started in LEhighton, PA saying goodbye to the love of my life. From there I traveled to Glenside, PA to pack my things. I arrived at my dorm at 2:00am to pack my bags for a weeklong trip for spring break. It was a service trip to Tijuana, Mexico. We worked with Esperanza International ( www.esperanzainternational.org ) It is a program that helps build homes for low-income families. I didn't know waht I was getting myself into, but I didn't really want to know, and I was excited! 4:30am we left Arcadia University on a school bus headed for JFK international Airport. We flew Virgin America to San Fransisco, and then grabbed a connecting flight to San Diego. We went outside and walked down the ... read more

I hate Mexican airports!!! But don't let me get ahead of myself quite yet, I still have the whole adventure of my day to share with you lovely folks. I figured out what I forgot in my packing....the power cable for my laptop!! That one wins the prize when your plan is to blog your journey for everyone back home. (So folks, that's why I'm home now and trying to go back and blog each day and post the pics now that my laptop and power cable have been reunited at last) After showering and getting the girls dressed and ready for the day, we loaded up into the car and started off once again. First stop was at the McDonald's to grab some breakfast, apple walnut salads and a Cinnamon Melts. A picture is worth ... read more

Kalifornien California here we come. Der Lake Tahoe ... read more

My first trip south of the border was certainly interesting. Unfortunately I don't have any pictures, and I really don't have much to say about it. I almost feel guilty for counting this as a trip to Mexico, but surprisingly I saw few other Americans, so I suppose it's different than being in San Diego. I was somewhat surprised that I didn't even have to show a passport to get in, and it was also very easy to get out, although I suspect being a US citizen helps in that process. I went with three people I didn't know 2 weeks ago, and it was a fun group. After a quick taxi ride to Avenida Revolucion, the happening part of town, we had a dinner at a place that could have seemed mostly normal a few ... read more

The trip to Tijuana started well. We parked the car just north of the border and took the bus to Tijuna - a 15 min ride. The main street, Revolucion, was, as you expect, full of people trying to sell you anything and everything. They did lack a bit of sales technique though. Hello, welcome, come have a look, best store! hardly trigger any buying needs. Once off Revolucion, it got a bit more interesting, with vibrant street markets, street musicians and underdressed ladies. We had a very nice seafood meal and headed back to the bus. For some reason the way to the border from Tijuana is a lot longer than the other way. This time it took us 2 hours. Later we discovered that the US immigration added the extra 1h45min. At last we ... read more

Had a tooth fall apart leaving a huge gap. the dentist checks me out, cleans out the area, and fits me for a crown, and presents me with a bill for one thousand dollars. this baby boomer has no dental insurance. ouch. they fit me with a temp crown, I pay the bill, and exit. somehow, I feel I have been taken. A few days later, I return to get the crown put on. But I tell them about the pain in my tooth. He tells me I need a root canal. thanks. why didn't to tell me that before the crown was paid for and made? I smell a scam. They make an appointment for me, it will be another thousand dollars. had a friend of mine on his way down to TJ for some ... read more
