The semester concluded with a bang and with some great new friends. After my last exam Wednesday, I headed over to Hugo's where we light the Chanukah candles and had some drinks consecrating the completion of the semester and my law degree. Afterwards we went to the P'tit Grenouille for some dancing and live music. Thursday was for recovering and packing until the boys went for dinner at Ocean Grill, a bring your own wine on Chemin Ste-Foy. The company was fantastic, the food mediocre and the service horrible. From there we went to Maurice on the Grand-Allée, one of Quebec City's largest and most famous clubs for the end of semester party. A great send off. But no night out is complete without the breakfast crew gathering for one final meal. Back to Cochon Dingue ... read more

Day 48 Kayla and I left Grand Falls for Saint Anne. We had a really fun Medal Bearer meeting testing out the "French Version" of our briefing. All of our MB's were bilingual so they were very patient and helpful. After this we carried on to Edmunston. This is at the border of NB and QC. The weather was still fantastic! That evening we had another team Thanksgiving dinner at the hotel. Good friends, good food and good wine! Day 49 Kayla and I started our MB meeting at a public school. Hank is driving pace all week. Again we had 15 MB's who were bilingual. After this we headed for Cabano, QC. Ahh...la Belle Province! Our next meeting had MB's that did not speak any English or very little. Kayla is doing very well and ... read more

Leaving New York on sunday was really tough. But Boston had a few interesting highlights. There is so much history in Boston - it certainly makes it a great place to learn more about the USA. Visiting Harvard was a let down. It felt elite and it didn't have the inspiring vibe I was expecting. There's a funny seedy side to Boston - not in a ha ha way. Funny as in weird. Not sure what it is - maybe its the history of the place but something definitely didn't feel quite right in Boston. On Wednesday I hired a car and travelled north. Navigating was easier than I expected. The scenery was AMAZING. The further north I got the more the trees had changed for Autumn. I drove right through where the main ski fields ... read more

Gali came to visit me in Quebec City during my second week. It was a great way to start the semester since we were able to explore the city together and do some of the touristy stuff. She arrived mid-day and we quickly headed out towards Parc national Jacques-Cartier for a picnic and afternoon hike. After driving for just over an hour, we entered the provincial park and found a nice spot (around marker KM 12) for a picnic lunch. We took our time under the sun surrounded by the green scenery and rolling river. After the picnic we drove out to KM 16 where the trail "Les Loups" starts. On the way, we saw some cars pulled over and curious to see what the fuss was all about, we pulled over too and there was ... read more

I was able to go on a few day trips during my semester in Quebec City. The surrounding areas are beautiful and rich with culture. This blog is intended to help people who are planning similar day trips or day excursions. When I tried to find information - there was not much. Hopefully this will help. Hiking in Parc National de la Jacques Cartier Parc National de la Jacques Cartier is a provincial park about 1.5 hours north of Quebec City. The drive is easy and there was no traffic except for on the 40 and 440 when you return to Quebec City during rush hour. The park is well marked and laid out. About 10km into the park there is a welcome center with an information desk and small shop. There is also the option ... read more

On Sunday morning we made our way to Quebec City. Greyhound buses don't go north of Montreal and the train was quite expensive at $50 dollars each so luckily Marie told us about something called Amigo Express which is a lift sharing website, and basically people doing long drivers sell the spaces in their car. She helped us use it (entire website was in French) and we booked a ride to Quebec City with a friendly guy called Mathieu for only $15 each. Mathieu dropped us off and then we got a bus (after much struggling to find which bus, as the only other person at the bus stop responded Non! to our Parlez-vous Anglais?) into downtown to find our hostel. Quebec City is full of steep hills and after walking up about 4 different ones ... read more

We had a fun drive to Quebec City listening to Leith’s tunes which are mostly death metal tunes (kidding) haha mostly Bob Dylan and 80s music which is fine by me. All of our music playlists are very diverse. I had to throw in some irritating songs to make everyone laugh like “Midnight at the Oasis” yup….try getting that out of your head hahaha. We checked into the hotel and guess where it was? Right next door to a HUGE mall – oh ya baby! So we checked out the mall had some dinner and then hit the hay! The next morning we headed for Kia Ste-Foy and met Directrice des operations Annie Laliberte and Andree Casgrain from Moisson Quebec. Annie had to interpret to her staff for me since they didn’t speak English very well. ... read more
