Until I read Duncs blog, I didnt realise how long it was since my last update. I have been lucky enough recently to have been given more free basketball tickets. Sometimes I cant believe my luck, it seems to get better and better. This time a gym member gave me and 2 tickets to a game an amazing 10 rows behind the bench, all because I helped him with his bench press! I ended up going with Luigi. We arrived about an hour before tip-of to soak up all the atmosphere and get some photos near the court. The game itself was only really exciting at the beginning and end (Luigi fell asleep, although that could be because of the night out for Julias birthday). After having the time of my life, the basketball talking heads ... read more

Day 8: April 13 - Toronto Accommodation: Global Backpackers Today was the last day of my trip in North America, and I didn’t have any major agenda again today so I took my time. I had a late breakfast, spent a bit of time on the net, then headed out into the cold towards the CN Tower, apparently the world’s tallest building. I could be wrong though. It was surprisingly a relatively short walk from my hostel, and fairly inexpensive also. I went inside and up an escalator and after getting my ticket I had to walk through this security barrier which shot out bursts of air all over my body for about 5 seconds. It was pretty strange and kind of fun and ticklish, but I wasn’t completely sure why they chose this sort of ... read more

Hello all, Its time for me to give you more info on life across the pond. Firstly, in the space of about a month the weather has changed dramatically. It was still hitting temperatures like -7 at the beginning of the month. Now, each day tops out at around 15 to 20 and its gorgeous. The sun is shining, everyones in a good mood, the mini-skirts are out and the sun stays out later. I am very settled into a routine now. I have great job in an amazing location overlooking Lake Ontario and the Toronto Islands(What more could you want when working out?), and Iv landed on my feet with a great apartment in a very well-to-do area. I think they let me in thinking Im a part of the Royal Family, shhhhh, dont tell ... read more

In just a few short weeks I will be on my way to Japan where I will be spending the next 5 months with my good friend, Eve. Eve, a friend from university, has already been living in Fukushima since September 2005, so she already knows the ins and outs of living in Japan. Fukushima is a city about 300 km or an hour and a half north of Tokyo by shinkansen (bullet train). The area is famous for both its hot springs and sake production, as well, it is one of the biggest fruit producers in Japan. For pictures and more information on Fukushima, visit the city's official website. Stay tuned for more details on my adventures and experiences in Japan.... read more

Arriving and getting acclimated Getting on the plane following saying goodbye to all the family I was a bit of a mess, my mood was about to get worse as I realised I was sitting with a couple and thier two kids. This was not a problem, I love kids. The problem was that after the tough goodbyes, I realised that I couldnt cheer myself up by ogling the FHM that Dunc had give me as 'airplane reading' now that young eyes were present. I arrived at Pearson Airport after a nice long flight of babysitting the kids sitting in my row on the plane and was faced with the task of figuring out how to get to my hostel. Forward planning, unfortunately, didnt feature much in my weeklong buildup to the departure from Englands sunny ... read more

Finally... So it's basically just 8 days until I leave for London, then maybe Paris before I start my bartending gig on April 8. I finally got a start date out of them, which helps me plans things. Since I only have a handful of days from the time I arrive in the UK, to the time I leave from the UK for the ship...I'm still unsure if I'll just hang out in UK, Ireland and Scotland, or try and head over to France for a few days and then head on back....still unsure. I'm sure I'll have it figured out by the time I land. My ship will be the Grand Princess with Princess Cruise Lines, and it usually hits Greek Isles & Mediterranean along with the Caribbean. It should be fun, and then I'll ... read more

Today was the last day of phase 2 of mission get Amy around the World! This last week has been amazing. The second ski day at Mont Tremblant was fantastic, although the temperature reached around -20 degrees, I'm shocked I still have fingers! We headed to Ottawa for the last day and a half of the tour and stayed in a jail house! The hostel used to be a jail house with a death row section. It was really freaky. The lads on our tour actually got placed in a room which hadn't been converted, i.e it was an actual cell. We explored the death row block which really freaked me out. I took a photo of one of the cells, apparently known to be haunted, and as the flash went off, I got a really ... read more

My first blog entry....now I remember how it feels to be a virgin all over again.... Anyway...I had a hectic day yesterday getting things done for my trip. I had the marine certificate physical in the morning (perfect sight and hearing...good to know I'll hear and see everything perfectly, and why do they make those cups you pee in so small), then off to walk the main downtown core a few times as I try and find a HSBC branch to set up an account. Never did find it...but I did manage to hit the one of the few travel agents in town which sells the HI memberships...check, picked up some Contiki info...still not sure if my 2 months before I head on the cruise ship will be solo, or on a tour, I'd love some ... read more

We are back in Toronto (pronounced Ta-Ron-O)....today we went to the CN tower which was built for some sort of telecommunications interchange and is the worlds tallest free-standing building...its very tall!...on the observation deck they have a glass floor so you can see right down to the ground...its a very cool thing to do but very very disconcerting. we loved our time in Montreal....what a great place :) as i have said before it was so so cold...our last night there it was -18 degrees celcius...thats cold right? yeah damn right its cold....and thats before you take into account the wind chill. So its testamanet to the town that its still so good despite the debilatating weather. We drove back in our bronze pontiac to toronto...it took 12 hours...and it shouldnt have. We took a worng ... read more
