Day 5 of my Hike. This time I would have some company of my hike. Lea is an old friend from high school and I knew she would be good at hiking because she ran competitively in University and would be good shape. We met up at Beamer Conservation Area and left her car there and took my car to Quarry Rd Beamsville which would be the start of our hike. The weather was beautiful and only a bit chilly. We dressed in layers so that we could just lose layers when it got too hot. This section is rated hard to hike but aside from a few hills and muddy sections we made good time. The fact that it was mostly dry made hiking easier. It was lovely views along the way we chatted along ... read more

Day 4 of my hike. This is my first hike with good weather so I was looking forward to it. Drove down to the Niagara region again. I am slowly drawing closer to my home base so that each drive is a few kilometers shorter. I parked my car at the Rockway Community Center and started my hike. I took the Rockway Side Trail and connected with the Bruce Trail after a few hundred meters. The hike went downhill and you get a nice view of Rockway Falls. About 1 KM in I also ran into a group of deer that suddenly appeared near the trail. In a flash all 3 of them took off running. They were white tail deer because I saw the white flashing tails they had. The next 5 km were a ... read more

Day 3 of my hike. Another cold day and the temperature with the wind chill would be -10 degrees. This makes hiking hard because your muscles just don't work as well in the cold. I drove down to Decew House and parked my car and started my hike all bundled up. I walked along a lake and watch the geese playing in Lake Moodie. It is a full double trail so I was making good time walking along the water edge. There were a few waterfalls along this hike and the first one is Morning star Falls. You see when you are exiting the first part of the trail and back onto Decew Rd. I turned right on Decew Rd for about 500 meters before turning back onto the trail. You enter Short Hills Provincial park ... read more

So our plans to go to Scotland fell through, The next big problem was where do we go in this big world that has so much to offer. Afternoon, everyone. Thursday, August 11. Mom and Dad brought the motorhome back to Germany, with help from Ome Jan and Tante Ria. We the children slept in late and bummed around Ome Jan C.'s house. Oma and Tante Gerda came late in the morning and we went to the Barneveld market and bought a couple things. In the afternoon we also did very little, and all but Shauna and I went back to the market again. I don't remember doing anything else that day... Friday, August 12. Our last day in Europe! In the morning, we went to visit Wilma and Evert-Jan and their family, and say goodbye. We went also to the Capela (?), a brick tower in the forest near Lunteren, and got a good view of the countryside from the top. In the ... read more

Most of know St Catherines as the wine region...but little did we know that amoungst the vines and intoxicating fruit are Pirates - LURKING - waiting to attack. Tuesday October 20th: Raiders of the Lost Boatyard attack Element Quest - the final duel before EQ set sail to head south.
