Less than a week to go. I think I have everything now, so just have to finish packing. Here's the map of the planned locations we will be going to: Rishikesh for the 11-11-11 Yoga Festival, Amritsar to visit the Golden Temple, Agra to visit the Taj Mahal, and New Delhi to visit Qutb Minar. Those are just the highlights. I hope to see more than that, but we'll see how the trip unfolds. My travel mates and I also discussed visiting Jaipur, but have left that as an option for now. Four weeks will go by fast.... read more

Here we are in the capital of Canada. Our first impressions were somewhat doubtful - room a bit of a come-down, directions for where to go for dinner were quite confusing (for us). We went to a place - well, best not to give you the details - not great though. Picked up some yoghurt & cookies afterwards to make up for it. Ate them on Parliament Hill then sat on the grass and waited for the sound and light show. We didn't know what to expect, but the wait was well worthwhile. The whole building was bombarded with a coloured light show of such high tech we were blown away. At the end they played O Canada, I sure felt like standing and singing out loud. I didn't, I'm sure Ron was grateful that I ... read more

We are now in Ottawa after travelling by train from Toronto which was all fine, managed to find the bus from the station and have now spent the night banged up in Ottawa Jail! Block 6 Cell 6. Yes ok its a hostel now but the rooms are all the original cells and you sleep in bunks. It's quite an amazing place and slept better than I did in Toronto in the supposed hostel there. Which turned out to be a room in a chinese boarding house, we were right next to the bathroom and all night long people were in and out, the bed was as hard as a board and made your bones ache! Today we are staying at the Barefoot Hostel (named because you cant wear shoes!) it is really lovely but it ... read more

An update from Gord: Pam sent me an email this morning, from the Los Pinos hotel in Managua. Last night when they arrived, 7 of their bags had decided to linger in Miami for a while (Pam, Quinn, Kristy, Matt, Marcia). They were to come in on the next flight and arrive later at the hotel. The hotel is lovely with a lot of woodwork and a nice pool. The group went out for pizza after they arrived. And went off to see a volcano! Apparently it was really interesting. After coming back, a number of the group went swimming. They had dinner around 7pm. Finally just before 10pm last night, 6 of the 7 bags arrived. A bag of Matt's that had gifts in it is still being tracked down. Pam says it is really ... read more

We were scheduled to go to our first dealership at noon so unfortunately we missed the yoga classes that happen on the lawn right in front of Parliament every Wed. I really would have liked to see Steven Harper in his yoga pants…ok let’s erase that visual haha. So after having tea on the terrace and enjoying the view we headed off to Kia 417 where we met General Manager Linda Carriere. They were having a special summer event and had the car tents set up. It’s really cool you just set it up like a normal tent but then attach to the main cargo area. I thought it was really cool that management decided to match whatever the employees brought in and donated. Just as we had gotten there the girls were just coming back ... read more

We left Barrie for Ottawa on Friday 22nd July and took a long scenic drive, going through a part of Algonquin National Park which was full of beautiful lakes and forest and we stopped off off at the visitor's centre which was really interesting. We got to Ottawa about 5pm and met Rod & Ann (friends of Chris and Dave who we were staying with in Ottawa), had a few drinks on their deck, had dinner and then Aled & I borrowed their bikes and went for a leisurely cycle along the beautiful Ottawa river. We seem to have found a new love in cycling (only when there is no hills though!!). The next morning we all went into Ottawa city centre and saw the changing of the guard and had a walk round the outside ... read more

When we left Robert’s place on Friday it finally felt like we were truly on our way home. It was a short trip as we only went as far as Ottawa, but we were now into Ontario (and would be in Ontario for over a week before we finally crossed it all). In Ottawa, we visited the Museum of Nature as they had a temporary Giant Mammals exhibit that the boys wanted to see. This was really a great museum. The giant mammals were good, but so was the rest of the museum; with a dinosaur section, marine animals, birds, mammals, insects, etc. In each area there was a good interactive area for young kids so Marc really enjoyed it too. I think his favorite was the bird hospital, where he spent a great deal of ... read more
