August 4, 2011 Costco Parking Lot, Prince George, BC. High clouds and sunshine—yeah!! 59 degrees with stating mileage at 13978. Started the morning looking at all the dead moths that had died all over Jim and Dianne’s RT. They had parked under one of the light poles in the parking lot and a swarm of the moths were attracted and were killed by flying too close. Jim had to remove and clean them out of their fan vent as well as off their RT body. We were two spaces away but still had them stuck in the windshield wipers. The number of dead bodies reminded Valerie and I of crossing the desert with Mom and Dad and pulling into a gas station that had so many grasshoppers/crickets covering the concrete that you had to crunch your ... read more

When last we blogged we were headed on our way to Chitwan National park in Southern Nepal.... I got lazy and a couple of months have passed. ;) This is my attempt to restart the blog machine that is Corey... Please note that beer is cheap in Esquel Argentina and I am pretty buzzed at the moment. :) 26th October 2010... We arrived at "Jungle Adventure World" (our hotel) near Chitwan National Park late afternoon after another fabulous Nepali bus ride. FYI, if I never have to ride another bus in Nepal for the rest of my life, I will be a very happy man! We settled into our new diggs and although they were not too bad, I honestly expected more from a place called "Jungle Adventure World." That night we discovered the deliciousness of ... read more

Hi All, Well I'm now travelling with three fellows that all met on the road. Patrick, an Irishman who is doing the Prudhoe bay to Tieraa del Fuego run on an Africa Twin; Paul is from Houston TX and is riding a KLR 650 and Dominic from Jersey on a GS1200. Basically they're on their way to Nakusp to the 9th annual meeting of the Horizons Unlimited website members so I'll tag along too! It should be a good place to swap motorcycle stories and meet new travellers too. At present I'm sat in the warm sunshine in Prince George BC after a rather lengthy day ...although we didn't ride very far. The concern of the day was Patricks rear tire (Tyre if you're English) that lost a few chunks out of it and was nursed ... read more

I am now in Northern British Columbia. Since I last managed to get internet access, I have travelled up from the northern tip of Vancouver Island (Port Hardy), via the Inside Passage to Prince Rupert (a 520km ferry journey), and then driven eastwards from Prince Rupert to Prince George (about 720km). The Inside Passage is a 15 hour journey. Apart from the first two hours, when the boat crosses the Pacific Ocean (Queen Charlotte's Sound), the majority of the trip is between the islands up the west coast of BC. According to all the guidebooks, tourist info, marketing literature, etc. it is alleged to be THE most spectacular ferry trip in the world. And to be fair, they do have a point! Apart from having to get up at ridiculous o'clock (they insist on loading the ... read more

May 4th - 7th. Entered by Sarah We start the day with an awesome breakfast at the Hotel Restaurant - served by our Aussie friend we met last time through. It’s a cool morning, and we decide that a small walk up Maligne Canyon would be a good idea to get our circulation working before the trip. A beautiful spot with clear green water, a swing bridge, and good track to stretch our legs on. Then its off again in the purple pearl, along at first the same trail as the train took down the Yellowhead highway, then past Mount Robson where we stopped for lunch. Some of the frozen lakes we passed when on the train are now melted to slush - only two weeks later. We stop at the half way point at a ... read more

Another chilly morning, but it was sunny all day and warmed up to the mid 70's in the afternoon; perfect weather for cruising in the Miata! I woke up at 5:00am and was wide awake, so I decided to get up early and resume my journey. It was still very dark and the stars were out. I put the top down on the Miata, pulled my knit ski cap over my head and ears, put on my gloves and hit the road. It felt good! Stopped for a big breakfast (TOO big) and after an hour of driving after breakfast I was getting drowsy, so I pulled over by a river at a rest area and took a 30 minute nap. After that I felt alert for the rest of the day. This was mostly a ... read more

More vast open countryside with spectacular views round every corner. Another 4 days has passed and we've covered another 1026 spectacular miles - though it would be nice to see a tree without pine needles. Actually that's not really fair as we do go past the occasional stand of aspens in amongst the pine trees. We are still in the land of scenic viewpoints surrounded by trees but it doesn't matter as there is so little traffic on the road you can just pull up and take a photo. All the towns are small one horse places but the locals love it when you stop and they have someone new to chat to. Plus they all have small museums when you can catch up on the local history and culture. The rivers are all enormous and ... read more

Having arrived in Prince Rupert on the ferry around 7am the Polish couple gave me a lift to the Greyhound Bus station ticket office, where I discovered how expensive it was to try and get North - have to go way out east to Prince George to get another bus that will go up north. And pay a small fortune to do it. So I decided to hitch instead. I set out on the road, and before long a car stops without me even sticking my thumb out. "This is easy!" I think. The following conversation goes something like this: Nice Lady: "Do you want a lift to the ferry?" Me: "No thanks. I'm going out on Highway 16 - trying to get to Whitehorse in the north." Nice Lady: "I see." (pauses) "This road only ... read more

The Skeena train, run by VIA rail, is a 20 hour journey with an overnight stop in Prince George. The trip was very scenic for the first four hours, then extremely pleasant but not so stunning for the remainder. Early in the trip the conductor told us we were very fortunate to get a vista of the Seven Sisters, a spectacular jagged mountain range. The train also runs along the Skeena River for the first four hours then the Fraser, BC's mightiest river, for most of day 2. We missed the view of Mt Robson, late on Day 2 due to cloud. Robson is the Canadian Rockies' highest peak. Our hosts Walt and Ruth at Bedford Place B&B at Prince George made us very welcome. Again, the wildlife was light on, with two or three bear ... read more
