June 19 & 20 - Snitch RV Park, Prince George, B.C. June 21 & 22 - Dawson Creek B.C. June 23 - 25 - Fort Nelson, B.C. Since I am so far behind on these blogs with the absence of WIFI I am going to condense these earlier days. As you can see we have been to three towns. Prince George, Dawson Creek, & Fort Nelson. Dawson Creek was really the beginning of the Alaska Highway even though you are in B.C., Canada. There's not much to say about Prince George. It was a fairly big city with a Costco, Walmart and a University. Things are a little different here in Canada. I took some pictures of things that have struck me as funny or odd. One thing strange and annoying was that the Costco here ... read more

Day: 9/10 Distance: 3309 miles After leaving the dear reader at Banff, I took off north on CR 1 which quickly became PR 93 heading north through the Rocky Mountain Forest and Parks such as Kootenay, Banff, YoHo and Jasper. It looks like the western edge of this park range is the British Columbia and Alberta (how sad is this? I initially typed Albertsons) border. I came to a split in the road and I took the right fork thinking I was going the right direction. About 45 minutes later I looked at the GPS and noticed I was going southwest (yes I know guys, where is my infallible sense of direction?). Apparently I zoned out or was really trying not to hit any animals because I had mistakenly taken 93A. A? What's up with that ... read more

Three weeks until Jennie and I leave for the rolling green! ? So exciting. I'm still waiting for my passport to arrive, fingers crossed it arrives this week or early next week. Starting to feel nervous the photo won't be approved. ??? It all started when I visited Jennie in Victoria back in February. She said if I ever wanted to travel she'd be in! So in March when I sold my car and had a nice tidy little sum burning a hole in my pocket, I contacted her and we settled on Ireland. We booked our flights and the rest is history. ✈️ Using a handy-dandy travel book I bought at a bookstore for $30 (cha-ching!), I created an itinerary to get us around the Emerald Isle inside of 10 days. I am lucky Jennie ... read more

Our final two nights were scheduled to be in Prince George, British Columbia. We got in about mid-afternoon yesterday. Jim and I had decided we would stay just one night and then start our trip home. Due to some health issues back home, we feel that is where we would like to be. As for our trip, it was fabulous and we visited and did so many things that we had only dreamed of previously. We traveled the full Alaska Highway plus more ... even made a trip to the Arctic Circle. We saw lots of wilderness, as well as a few big cities that kind of shattered the "wild Alaska" image I had. We missed the Northern Lights, but only by a day or so if you believe the "you should have been here last ... read more

The area surrounding Prince George is beautiful - rolling hills, forests, big bold rivers. We spent two days with friends at their cabin at Bobtail Lake, about an hour and a half west. Driving there on forestry roads, we almost ran into a herd of cattle. Signs warning of moose appeared often. But once tucked into our private little cabin with a view of the lake, life was good. Our friends took us for a boat ride to see the little beach on the island where Tim's best friend Phil's ashes were spread - a big eagle guarding the spot. I picked wild blueberries with their grandchildren and Tim and the boys drove down the road to practice shooting 22's. Having to drive to the top of a hill to get cellular reception was not a ... read more

Yesterday Tim and I explored Prince George. The city has somewhat of a bad reputation but we saw many positive things - its lovely university, civic centre and recreation centre, wide streets, the beautifully designed RCMP building, and gorgeous Connaught Hill Park. We noticed that there are a lot of churches in Prince George - there must be a lot of sinners living there! Our trip to London Drugs to buy a new camera was surprisingly amusing. What are the chances that my camera would decide to give me problems at the very start of our trip? We were in the camera section talking to a salesperson when an alarm went off. A shady looking woman in her 40's with badly dyed red hair and blue lip liner had been furtively trying to get into a ... read more

I think if a Prince George wedding was a country band, its name would be "Big and Loud". Laying in my sleeping bag this morning at 8 AM, I awoke to the rumble of semis on the highway nearby, a group of young rednecks clamorously resuming their partying from the night before, and a pair of noisy crows fighting over something outside our tent as a quad raced by with a big black dog on the back. The wedding we attended last night in this campsite was also the loudest I've ever been to, beginning with the sound of a double shotgun blast after the happy couple were pronounced man and wife and ending with the final notes of country music and F-bombs echoing through the campsite until 4 AM. But it was all fun nevertheless. ... read more

Another beautiful day; warm but cooler than yesterday which is a good thing. We were looking to have a shorter ride today but came via Barkerville and had lunch at nearby Wells which was a cute stop. Saw a small black bear grazing on the side of the highway but as we got no pictures of this, it "didn't happen". Had a nice dinner out with the group and literally fell into bed.... read more

Today we left my daughter Adrienne's house near Vancouver and headed for Prince George to attend a wedding. Tim lived there in the 80's but I'm a Prince George virgin, which I understand is a rare thing. When I told my friends that I was going there, the usual response was "Ugh, don't expect much". I'm guessing that I will be pleasantly surprised. To get there, we had to pass through a number of small towns and cities, all of which I'd heard but none of which I'd visited. I was surprised by their stunning settings among verdant forests and azure lakes and rivers. From what I'd heard about them, I'd expected smelly mill towns. It was a lesson to me to not make assumptions based on other people's observations. We spend tonight with friends on ... read more

Current Location At the moment I am in my bedroom typing out the first of many blog entries to come. I am currently living in my parent's house in Prince George, BC Canada. I've lived in Prince George my entire life excluding the year I lived in Vancouver for my studies. I have lived with my parents my entire life excluding the four consecutive years I lived on my own when I was seventeen to twenty-one years old. I am now twenty-three. What's Next In one week I am flying to Melbourne, Australia. This is the starting point of my grand journey across this planet. My plan is simple; work my way around the world. That may just sound simply insane to you, so you can imagine the degree of my apprehension. Research and Preparations Everything ... read more
