So tomorrow I start work and I tell you what I'm feeling quite nervous! I've been reading through my manuals and drill book to catch me up with what I learnt in Fernie last year so feeling a little better now! The boys and I haven't really been up to much in the last few days hence the lack of updates on the blog front! Ted gave us a lift down into town today so that Dan and I could set up our bank accounts with the old Trusty Canada much to Jack's pleasure! I was also laughed at when I informed the lady that my previous job was at Fat Face, lovely! I then went to the Service Canada building to get my Social Insurance Number so I can now earn money, which I would ... read more

Monday mornings are never the greatest I'm sure you'll all agree with that but when your woken up at 7.30 freezing cold and have had one of the worst nights sleep for the second night in a row its difficult to smile! Half an hour later and the three of us were walking to our days training and orientation. We purposely left early as we wanted to scope out some new accomodation as we all wanted to move out of the staff accomodation which Jack had described as "a cold version of hell". Within about 2 minutes of having a look round we all decided that we wanted to move in as soon as possible. We then headed to our training session and met some fellow instructors, lifties and other guys who are working elsewhere on ... read more

Ok so for the second morning I have woken up in the same bed as one of the guys! Talk about living the glamorous life of a ski instructor! We then went and got a classic Canadian breakfast at Timmy Ho's and had a wander round Penticton where we found a few nightclubs and some very debatable shops and houses. We eventually came across a grocery store where we were "welcomed" by a native Indian fella who attempted to unscramble Jack's broken english (for those of you who dont know, he's a Kiwi) and replied in a way that can only be described as gobbledegook! We caught one word which sounded a bit like Sabeway and with his gesturing we set off in the right direction towards the nicer end of town past 5 churches and ... read more

Day 37. Tuesday. Yesterdays forecast of cloudy skies turned to scattered showers but I had a few things I deeded to get done in a city anyway so no regrets staying in Penticton for an extra day. Just before I left home I found out my truck needs about $3000 worth or work to the front end... again. Four wheel drives. They are hard on front end parts. Anyway I've been noticing my front passenger tire is wearing badly so I had it swapped it with a back to get me home. Second stop was Staples to get a couple things laminated. I stopped for some lunch at Taco Time too. Much better than Taco Bell. Once back at the trailer I kept an eye on the sky and the forecast. The weather network said it ... read more

Day 36. 11,911Km. I heard the rain when I woke up so I rolled over and went back to sleep. No rush today. By the time I woke up again the run was trying it's best to burn off the clouds. You see, it's all about the bike. If it's keeping dry under the awning why get it wet right? A quick shower and I was packing up. Just as I moved the trailer to gain access to the back it started to spit. I loaded the bike, got it all tied down and off I went. Good timing too because not five minutes down the road the skies opened up and it lasted a while too. Somewhere around Grand Forks, as you start to climb the next pass, there is a sign stating 'Drastic weather ... read more

We left Christina Lake on Saturday and had a pretty big driving day. We stopped at a few little towns along the way including Grand Forks where there was a giant seniors liquidation sale. We managed to snare a few bargains like a Frisbee for a buck (yay activities) and a badminton set (sans net) for $2. We also decided to splurge on lunch - we had passed a sign saying Cheryls pies - I immediately conjured up images of a delicious bakery contatining meat pies. Of course how wrong I was - being in Canada and all, it was of course fruit pies. So instead we shared a turkey panini and had a slice of rhubarb and strawberry pie. Whilst it was delicious, it was slightly disappointing after just wanting a good ole Mrs Macs. ... read more

Why I did not come here befor. so much fun climbing here. I like the rock. weather was OK. sometime hot , windy, little bit rain, cold and nice.... climb and camping with Cara was a lot fun. climb for free. camp for free. ... read more

Geo: 49.5002, -119.594Today we left Yakima about 9am and started driving north along Highway 97. The scenery consisted of lakes and mountains and we saw a fire with a helicopter scooping water from the lake to dump on the smouldering brush. It was a fairly uneventual drive, we listened to CDs of Kerry Greenwood novels and Yes Minister radio plays. We stopped for a very ordinary lunch in Okanogan in Washington but then arrived at the Canadian border about 2-30pm. Once through there we were in the Okanagan valley,(yes the variation in spelling is right) and we had the prospect of myriad wineries within a few kilometres. We stopped first at the Burrowing Owl winery. There, a very nice guy called Larry, took us through a tasting of 4 wines and then he recommended some other ... read more
