(Post from Mike) It has been a little while since this has been updated, so time for a mini pre-trip post from the Calgary Airport, as we wait to head back to Toronto! With great anticipation, May 16th finally came around and Jess and I turned our Out of Office auto-replies on (basically, "we will endeavour to reply to your message upon our return in August 2015, aka find someone else to do the menial task you were going to delegate to us") and immediately headed to the airport for a week in Panorama prior to heading to South America. I can't think of a better way to unwind from the stresses of working life than time in the mountains of B.C. After a couple rounds of golf, some hours in front of the TV, and ... read more

So for our only full day in Jasper we were heading skiing/snowboarding to marmot basin. While my brain no longer felt jet-lagged, I still wasn't able to sleep a full night through, so we had a relaxed morning and went to the mountain in the afternoon. We got really good deals for classes, gear rental and lift passes. Doug was going skiing as he'd done it before and I was going to try snowboarding for the first time. I was on my own for beginner lessons and they were for two hours. I wasn't sure what to expect but it was a lot of fun and very similar to kayaking in terms of edging and trunk rotation! Look where you want to go and relax seem to be the fundamentals. We went over the basics, toe-edge, ... read more

Mum has this fear that every plant is poison ivy...she freaks out when we go walking through the woods. When we went to enchanted forest we went inside a castle and saw a talking wizard...he wasn't scary. We went downstairs to the dungeons, there was a ghost with one eye...Kit thought it was really real. After that we saw a house and you could go inside it and there was a slide - it was a very small house. We saw a tunnel and went in it. We arrived in Invermere and I went to a toy shop and bought a blow up tube for the pool and the book diary of a wimpy kid. After that we went to the pool and I went down the slide that ended up in the water, it was ... read more

Adam's Blog: Our week in Invermere has been leisurely as we settled into our new home. We are staying in a purpose built development called Lakeside Meadows - approx. 10 years old. It seems talking to locals that when they opend up a new road across the Rockies from Banff/Columbia Valley, Invermere became the beneficiary (or as some locals would put it basketcase) of development. Alberta & people of Calgary had been going through a boom period (their 3rd in past 50 years), as a result of Oil & Gas resulting in many cashed up Calgarians - at least up until the financial crisis in 08/09. Many have bought into develpments such as Lakeside and you can see why... I'm so excited!! Less than two months until I go to Canada. From the beginning of December 2008 I will be spending 6 months in BC Canada working at Panorama Mountain Resort as a Customer Insight Specialist and spending my time off travelling and exploring Canada and the US!!!! I resigned from my job here in Queenstown last week and am pretty much just waiting until December. I've got a few things coming up that will distract me until then though... Beca & Janes 21st's; In Chch and Te Anau. 53 days to go... ... read more

Things have slowed down here since Vince and Kurtis left. They met up with their friends in Calgary and arrived safely in North Battleford early Friday Morning. we are still working out how to get them home on Monday but I am sure something will work out soon. The ski hill remains very busy and it takes a bit of artful planning to get up to the areas where there are less people and more snow. We have never been here at this time and are unaccustomed to such crowds. Also one of the runs was so icy that Kelvin reinjured his back. He has chose to rest it for the rest of Friday. I don't quite ski at Troy's speed but he is learning about patience and control with me. I'm sure they will be ... read more

The snow has come back again, unfortunately so have all the people here at Panorama. If you can get through the initial lines the rest of the hill is fantastic. the skiing was truly phenomenal so I have added in a few pictures and a video of Troy. Returning in for lunch to another Canadian Junior win was another great gift. The end of a great ski day here and the people milling around outside of this internet cafe look like 100's of exhausted, partially melted snowmen. The children spend most of their time plopping in large puddles in the snowbank leaving behind a herald of angels. The parents of course don't find it all so amusing and you can sense the exhaustion in their faces and in their stride. Holidays and snow have paved a ... read more

Hi All, It sounds like you are all at Grandma's now. Glad you are enjoying our escapades. We are having a wonderful time. The beginning of the World junior Hockey Championships has changed the priorities here. Fortunately the Canadians won and everyone could return to the slopes happy. Not a picture was taken today so I can’t share anything too exciting. Quiet recovery day just the way a boxing day should be. I am putting in some pictures from our Christmas day supper as that day is already full. The restaurant was lovely but nothing like a home cooked meal at Christmas. ... read more
