It's Sunday. I'm packing my suitcases and bags for the trip. I will be traveling to Edmonton on the bus at 9:00 AM, Monday morning. Last November (2004), I purchased an International Student Identity Card (ISIC) for $16.00CA from my travel agent at the university. Holders of an ISIC normally receive exclusive travel discounts with companies such as Greyhound and VIA rail. The details on the card -- such as the institutional affiliation, birth-date, name, and the yearly expiration date -- are normally printed on a special holographic, plastic film. Unfortunately, the printer was not working at the travel office -- so the agent hand-wrote the details on the film instead. I should have said something at the time, because the card did not look very authentic in the end. Instead, I smiled and nodded as ... read more

Hi Everyone, Just thought I should update this quickly. I arrived home July 7th and have kept it quiet so I could surprise my parents which I did today...and they were quite surprised! Prior to coming home I spent a week in Sydney just wandering around and seeing the sites before the long flight home. Any way, I'm sure I will catch up with you all at some point. Take care, michelle... read more

I miss my music collection. I miss having a bathroom and a kitchen. I miss the multiculturalisms of city life. I miss my bike. Time is flyin' by, and I'll be rolling back east in no time. Family and friends, familiar surroundings. Maybe I'll get out to Vancouver Island while I'm in the neighbourhood. Planting in B.C. next week. Sorry to everyone I haven't had time to reply to. Thanks for writing to me. See ya when I see ya. ... read more

So Canada is more than a little strange. They drive on the wrong side of the road - I let them know and I convinced them as well. I told them that the Japanese make cars especially for them, not one of them has been smart enough to point out that the Europeans make cars especially for us. They dont have round abouts. They have Four way stops. They give way to the right? Freaks. They have no floor drains in their bathrooms. Not in a house not in a hostel not in a hotel. I assume that nothing is ever spilt on the floor, nothing overflows and they are completely dry upon exiting the bath or shower. I have not mastered this yet and am stuck with a wet bathroom (oops washroom) floor. They dont ... read more

Hey, so, I've been a little bit behind in my computing, but hey, what can ya do? Planting's been good, on the good days. The bad ones are bad, but I'll keep at it. We're moving camp today, moving a little closer to the mountains, somewhere near Hinton. Photos? Scrounging for free internet means I can't get my pictures on here. I got some cool shots of our helicopter trip a couple weeks ago. Its kind of cool that our skills are so unique, that its worth flying us, our bags and shovels and trees out to a block. I haven't been reading or writing as much. The work really takes a lot out of you, fills up your days. Oh well. I'm getting paid. That's pretty sweet. After watching my bank acount go down for ... read more
