Film gisteren was erg gezellig, waren heel veel mensen. Echt grappig, het is serieus net een normale bioscoop, alleen worden er overdag colleges gegeven. Vandaag ben ik weer heel nuttig bezig geweest, een bankrekening geopend (da's nog best veel gedoe!) en me ingeschreven voor twee nieuwe courses. Ik houd alleen die course over strategic management, de rest heb ik laten vallen. Ik heb nu twee nieuwe, mergers&acquisitions en management issues in informations systems (ofzo..). Lijkt me beter, m&a heb ik vandaag al gevolgd en was ok. Misschien neem ik nog een vierde, ik moet nog even kijken of dat verstandig is en zoja, welke. Ow en, voor ik het vergeet: ik heb met nog wat mensen het fitness centrum verkend! Gratis, groot, en vlakbij, prima dus. Today we left Banff and headed towards Jasper, approximately 200 km north. The drive is along a beautiful but sometimes treacherous road called the Icefield Parkway. It passes a number of glaciers which you can stop and view and at one spot you can even touch the toe of the glacier. In winter, this is a bit hard because everything is white and icy. You wouldn’t know where the snow finished and the glacier started! Also it we had limited daylight hours to make the drive and it was snowing on the way there. With snow falling along such a road, your goal is to spend as little time on it as possible! Sunday we spent the day hiking around Sundance Canyon and Moose Marsh. The scenery was truly spectacular with the Rocky Mountains all around us. We walked about 3kms to the Canyon and then did the 2km hike up and around the Canyon. On the way back, we saw a cute little squirrel sitting on a mound of nut shells. He would run down to where his nuts were buried, dig one up and run back onto the mound where he would shell the nut and eat it. Sssooo Cute! Finally, we circled around the marsh. The whole time we were looking for wildlife but today was not our lucky day. After driving around Vermillion lakes, we headed back to our hostel for pre-dinner drinks. Even een korte terugblik op mijn eerste dag in Calgary... De dag begon heel voorspoedig. Ik kon gelijk in mijn kamer, waar ik één van mijn huisgenootjes ontmoette, een heel aardig meisje. Ik heb een eigen slaapkamer en deel de huiskamer, keuken, en twee badkamers met drie (Canadese) huisgenootjes. Ik heb geprobeerd zo veel mogelijk in 1 dag te regelen, en dat lukte allemaal eigenlijk wel heel prima. Mijn student-id kaart gehaald, mijn U-pass (soort OV-kaart), internet geregeld, boodschappen gedaan, me een beetje op de campus georiënteerd.. Het weer was prima, zeker voor de tijd van het jaar, lekker zonnetje.. En iedereen op de universiteit is super aardig en behulpzaam. De campus is groot, maar te overzien. How did that happen? Time is going so quickly here that I think I will be 85 before I know it... I thought I should update this blog for you all as it has been a while! I think that last time I updated it I had just started working here, apologies for being so slack! Working at the hostel is pretty good. I'm getting to meet a load of new people which is cool. Most of them are Australians. In fact I think that there are more Australians here than I will meet when I actually get to their home country!
