Friday night - no better time for a "going away party!" Emily and I enjoyed an intimate dinner in a private room at Joey's with close family and friends, then went over to the Druid - lots of laughs, cocktails, and dancing! The goodbyes were a little tough - it's making everything more real. Just over one week to go - then the real adventure begins!... read more

I've been waiting for 2 years now to do this trip, and it finally appears to be taking flight. I leave for South East Asia in just over 2 weeks with my friend Lindsay. Here's how it all started… Why Asia? Lots of people ask me that! I spent 5 months backpacking in Australia after I finished university. People thought I was crazy for doing it on my own, but it was one of the greatest things I've ever done. Met some fabulous people, saw some simply amazing sites and ingested the ever-contagious travel bug. My travel agent insisted booking a stopover in Malaysia on my way home. I thought she was insane…why would I ever want to go there? But after 5 months of unforgettable memories, I had no money and needed to move on…the ... read more

I would have thought that driving to West Edmonton Mall...that the Destination would be the predominant subject of this blog...but it was the journey! We had heard about a massive weather storm moving up through the states and it was hot on our heels. The Plan The basic schedule of events for the day was to simply drive up to Edmonton via Calgary (to pick up a new GPS unit) and hopefully get to Edmonton by about 2pm so Lauren could have some quality waterpark time. The Reality We woke up to a fresh dump of powder snow in Kananaskis. Fortunately, it only made things look pretty and didn't affect driving traction at all...so it was pretty much full speed ahead into Calgary. We used Wayne's GPS to drive TomTom so that we could find GPS ... read more

This blog is mostly about selfish me! I have been 3 & 1/2 days without food and with very minute amounts of clear fluid. The diagnosis, after those three days of prodding and poking in two hospitals by numerous medical personel is that I have a 4 mm kidney stone that is yet to release itself. Complicating this is a bowel ileus (paralysis of a section of the bowel that does not allow peristalis to move the food and liquids and results in build up of gas distending the stomach) causing as much pain as the kidney stone itself. Of course I'm feeling very sorry for myself. There is little that can be done to hasten the process of returning to normal. The bowel obstruction prevents taking fluids and food. On Saturday and Sunday I spent ... read more

Hey everybody Well 5 Days and counting. Getting excited and scared all at the same time. Wondering if we will have enough money, or just hoping nothing bad happens while we're gone. Its all in our minds somewhere amist gory stories of Crocs, Sharks, Jellies, Spiders, Snakes, Plane Crashes and warring Fiji. Although there is a lot on our minds right now, remember that we will miss each one of you and I'm sure that 3 months will just fly by. Like the numbers in my bank account I would presume. I hope everyone has had a great christmas, best wishes in the new year if we don't talk to you before we leave. We hope to hear from all of you, whether it be messages on the travelblog, or emails. Anyways, I hope the holidays ... read more

It's true!! It's been 8 months.... 4 days ago, the 19th, marked the 8-month mile-stone and to be completely honest I'd have to say that it's been the fastest months of my life. They say London is a busy, fast city... and has its pace ever quickened my experience. Now that I've lived in London for this long I feel like I'm entitled, as part-Londoner, to fill you all in on a few of the perks and pitfalls of this city. Here are my top five raves for London: 1) Night life- With its theatres, pubs and clubs, the first mention on the list is a given. I never run out of places to check out or things to do every night of the week. With so much to offer, dates in London are also easily ... read more

For those of you who have not had the great privilege of visiting Edmonton (!), I thought I would post a few pictures so you could get a sense of what we will be leaving behind on Dec 8th when we fly to Brisbane. Yes, it's cold here, but cozy inside and warm hearts abound, especially fuzzy ones. Enjoy!... read more

There is snow is Edmonton already yet the temperature is a nice -5 degrees. I guess this is what I get to look forward too in a month's time once I'm back home. Unless I'm off again somewhere else. My time here was spent hanging out at my grandmother's house and exploring the wonderous West Edmonton Mall. I've been here many times already, and I'm fairly familiar with the city of St. Albert and the western part of Edmonton where the giant mall takes its name from. Downtown however I've yet to seen in my previous visits, so I finally puttered around when the weather was half decent. It was a good visit as my dad showed my some of places he grew up, schools he went too, and other hangouts that were still around. As ... read more
