I've been back home for about 36 hours now and have had a few people ask me if I'm glad to be home. My answer? Not really! I was thrilled to see my family, especially my nephews & niece, but my head and my heart are still somewhere on the other side of the world . . . I'm not ready to be here yet!! But with that said, my five weeks were fabulous and varied and full of memories and great stories. When I last left you I think I was on my way to Thessaloniki in northern Greece. Not before, though, a visit to a foreign doctor! While in Karditsa I was fighting off a cold, and my uncle would have none of it and ordered me to visit a doctor (and also ... read more

AUTHOR'S NOTE: Sorry for the delay, everyone, but I'm back to life and reality now, and I've been in some strange mix of busy and lazy. Oh well, better late than never, right? I hope you all enjoy it! Hello guys & dolls, how are all of you? Man, a lot has happened since my last entry! I went to Stockholm and Kalmar during my time in Sweden (with a brief stop in Malmo), then back to Copenhagen for a day, and then to Amsterdam, and from there, home. So that's it. I'm done. Finito. Finished. Oh well, I can't complain. I had a great time, and I got to go to Europe again, which really wasn't in the plan. Plus, I finished this trip with a story, and in my book there's nothing better ... read more

You know, it's funny how life works. Three short weeks ago, I was complaining about being home and missing the thrill of being somewhere different. I've been sorting all the shit I brought back from this trip with me and wondering when (not if) I would get the chance to do this again. Well, it turns out that I'm leaving for my next trip tomorrow! I'll be spending 2 -½ weeks in Europe, coming back on May 31st. Some of you may be asking, "Tom, how the hell did this happen?!" Well long story short, my parents are both dutch immigrants, and my Dad was looking to go to Holland for a little while to visit his parents. He happened to find an extremely cheap flight, and when he told me how much it cost, ... read more

Well, I've now left my former home that was Fort Mac, and have been living in Edmonton for the past month. I've moved in with Jesse in her apartment and things are going well. I was scheduled to be in the office for 2 months, but got transferred to a more pressing construction job after only 2 weeks. So I'm back into old tshirts and jeans, from the shirt and dress pants I briefly wore. Luckily I'm working in a yard just out the back of the office block, so I haven't had to move again. So far it's been good, and im learning things I wouldn’t have on my last job. We are now definitely in spring. It hasn’t snowed in 2 weeks, and temperatures are now in the mid teens. I've cracked out my ... read more

No, you haven’t lost your minds . . . I haven’t left yet, but you’re getting a link to my “travel” blog. Well, just wanted to make sure I know what the hell I’m doing and try to upload some pics at the same time! I leave tomorrow, and I’m currently soliciting any suggestions on how to have a decent snooze on the plane (not my best skill, I must say), as I’ll be losing a night of sleep on the jaunt over the pond. Feel free to leave a comment at the bottom of this page if you can help little ol’ me out!!! So the “plan” looks something like this: - Leave tomorrow for London & torment Jeff & Nat for a week in the city - Thursday, May 10, hop a train ... read more

Hey everyone! Dennis and I are so excited because the day has FINALLY come! We are heading out to the airport in about an hour, we are all packed (well I am... thanks to Elaine, Dennis will be soon too), and we are SOOOOOOOOOOOOOO pumped to get on the plane and start going. Dennis forgot both his waterbottle (not as important and could have survived) and his raincoat (NECESSARY and needed it). So this morning our great friend Elaine brought both of them into the city and dropped them off at my house. Whew! First crisis is over with. So, by this time tomorrow we will be in Greece. Oh wait.. nope, we will still be ON A PLANE! Or at least local time anyways. I am very sad because I have to take off my ... read more

"I immediately regret this decision." ~ Ron Burgundy "He insist we not fly, in case the Jews repeated their attack of 9/11." ~ Borat "I cannot rest from travel: I will drink Life to the lees: all times I have enjoyed Greatly, have suffered greatly, both with those That loved me, and alone;" ~ Alfred Lord Tennyson, "Ulysses" Hey everyone, I'm back. Did you miss me? It's true, it's true, I'm back in E-Town. Oh woe is me! I'm sitting in an internet cafe in Edmonton as I write this. Originally, I was scheduled to come home on May 23rd, but it took a little reality check in New Zealand before I realized I should be moving my ticket up. New Zealand's an expensive country, and if I stayed there an extra month without working, ... read more

Europe 2007Paul McKenna Hey everyone! I thought I'd set up a blog for some updates on my travels over the coming summer to save me from having to send out mass e-mails every few days. The countdown is on! I only have three more exams in my first year of University, and in 10 days Laura and I will be flying out to London! We're going to spend a few days there, then meet my parents in Switzerland on May 7. After 6 and a half weeks of ripping around Europe, I'll be back in Edmonton for 10 days and then off to South Africa for a month. It's going to be an exciting summer (although my bank account will disagree with me...), and hopefully I can keep you entertained with a few good stories here ... read more

So I want to thank everyone who read my blog and came along this adventure with me. Laura and I had to come home 12 days early as I ran out of money and didnt want to borrow anymore from my family.
