This morning we began with a visit to the Igal Alon Museum which houses the "Ancient Boat', a 36 foot craft found in the mud of the Sea of Galilee. It has been dated to Jesus's day and is the very same kind of boat Jesus and the Disciples used on the night of the great storm when Jesus calmed the waves. We then walked over to the Ginosar dock where our wooden replica boat awaited us for a sail on the Sea of Galilee. It was a very windy day. The boat rocked and pitched in 3 foot waves. One of the group broke out in praise songs and believe it or not the wind calmed down. It was an mystical experience and made the Biblical story very real. Boarding the bus we went to ... read more

Wednesday, February 12, 2014 What an amazing day! Beautiful weather and great experiences! The schedule changes a bit from time to time since they call a head and check on traffic and crowds. This morning we went to the ancient city of Joppa (Jaffa) of Jonah and the Fish fame and the place of Peter's vision of the clean things of God. This is an wonderful country. Northern Israel in very green with much agriculture and pine forests planned over the past several decades. Israel grows almost 100 % of their food supply and are the biggest citrus exporter to Europe. The cities and villages are modern, if not ultra-modern, except the preserved old sections. Highways and bridges are very new and in great repair. Every bit of the tillable land is planted with vegetables, fruits, ... read more

Yesterday we drove from Tiberius through the Galilee region, passing the city of Cana, to the hometown of Jesus, Nazareth. We then drove through the Jezreel Valley to the massive tell of Megiddo (Armageddon). After a visit to the ruins of this important city, we stopped at Beth Shan on the way to the Jordan River Valley. Tomorrow Jerusalem!... read more

Yesterday we spent the day in the vicinity of the Sea of Galilee region. We began the morning with a boat ride across the Sea of Galilee. From there, we headed to Capernaum to see ruins of a synagogue that dates from three to four centuries after Jesus and ruins believed to be the house of Simon Peter. We then headed to Caesarea Philippi. We finished out the day at Mt. Arbel which lies along the famous Via Maris, the ancient “Highway 1” that connected Egypt and Mesopotamia. Hello readers, and happy Sunday to you! It is Sunday night for me, and I have been out of my Tel Aviv apartment since Friday, and have since than been in the North. I've been treated very well with an Israeli host family--Pdudya and Moti who are taking wonderful care of me! I came here Friday evening and had Shabbat dinner with their family. (Let me remind you that I know Pdudya and Moti from a family I babysit for back home....so these are the grandparents of a girl I babysit for...) Their family (son and wife and 2 children) came over for Shabbat dinner. This Shabbat dinner was much different than the previous Shabbat dinner I was at because there was much less people. I was able to have English conversations with everyone in attendance ... read more

Shalom! It's Monday evening in Israel at 7 PM, and for most of you back home, it's mid-Monday morning so here's wishing each of you a very happy Monday from Israel. Shavuah Tov (this means, have a good week!) It has been a very fast paced but enjoyable past three days. It all began on Friday when I took the train up to the North of Israel. I took the train to Akko, where Snir picked me up. From the bus stop we went to his house where I met his family, dropped my bags quick, got a quick bite to eat, and we were off to tour Israel. We went to see Rosh Hanikra. It's a beautiful site in Israel, and for those of you who aren't familiar with it, it is an area with ... read more

Israel, the Holy Land, holds so many wonders within it's borders. I have decided to start writing this blog to share with others my enthusiasm regarding our beautiful country. To get others to come and visit, to see for themselves the truth in the Biblical stories of the mountains, the rivers, the Great Sea, the wildlife and so much more. Israel is not just another country. It is an icon. One that has never lost it's importance to the Jewish people and the entire world itself. Follow through on my journey of discovering new places to visit, whether it be in nature, in a museum, an archaeological site or just to people watch. It is my hope that our journey together will strengthen your desire to visit these places and discover their magic. become stronger. Yesterday ... read more

"You will never read your Bible with more complete understanding than when you touch the waters of Galilee" Our first day in Israel we docked in Haifa. It is a huge port and is the third largest city in Israel. It lies on the Western slope of Mount Carmel and descends into the Mediterranean. Near our ship there were cranes offloading container ships everywhere we looked. We began our day with a drive to the Sea of Galilee (Galilee means circle). It was here that Jesus met Simon Peter, James and John...his first disciples. He performed many miracles here: He stilled the raging storm on the Sea of Galilee that was about to swamp their boat, He walked on the stormy water to his disciples, he preached the Sermon on the Mount, and performed the miracle ... read more

Country drive to the farthest reaches Our host Ilya, who works from home, has offered to drive us all the way up to Golan Heights today. Though Henry and I do not wish to take advantage of our hosts’ hospitality, it’s hard to turn down such an offer. Plus he happens to be an archeological buff and so his expertise and friendliness are an irresistible combination. The drive takes about two hours (a lengthy excursion in this tiny country!). We only make pitstops and so rely on my guidebook and Ilya’s descriptions of the sights around us, whetting my appetite for further Israeli adventuring at some future point. I would love to go to Tsfat, the ancient home of the Jewish mystical strain called Kabbalah, or prowl around the banks of the large (and important) Sea ... read more
