Venice
Crew in the Gondola in the Grand Canal We arrived in Rome on Sunday 13 August at about 7.00am and caught the train into the city from the airport and had no idea where our hostel was and how to get there. After a long walk with our massive backpacks we finally found an information outlet and we were given a map and directed where to go. It was so hot and the backpacks were killing us and we finally found the Hostel and then were told our room was on level 5 and we had to walk about 20 flights of stairs to our room but we made it. We did not do much that night as we all were absolutely buggered.
The next morning we went to the bus station and booked a tour and got on the double decker bus which took us to all the sights in Rome. We started at the Colosseum which was unreal!! It looks just like it does in the movie Gladiator. We got some great photos there. We then got back on the bus which took us to the Vatican City and to St Peter’s Church and then to the Sistine Chapel which Michelangelo painted which was just amazing!!
We got a tour guide in the St Peter’s Chapel and in the Sistine Chapel and he was from Louisiana USA and far out he knew his stuff, we were very glad we had him for the tour.
We ate out a lot at this little Italian restaurant around the corner from our hostel which has the nicest Italian food and great beer! Where we stayed was in the not so nice area of Rome. It was really dirty and smelt a lot. There was lots of rubbish around on the streets, so not what I expected it to be like. Each night in our Hostel room we got new people that arrived as we are in an 8 people dorm and there are only 5 of us. It has been very interesting we have met a lot of different people from different Countries. The bathrooms in the Hostel were absolutely disgusting!!!
We then caught the Eurail up to Florence early Wednesday morning where we spent one night. The place we stayed at was a hostel but felt more like a hotel it felt so good to have a nice clean shower and bed. I really liked Florence
Colosseum, Rome
Chloe & Lucas in Colosseum it had so much more to do and see and was a lot cleaner than Rome.
We then caught the Eurail to Venice and checked in to the camping grounds we were staying at which were unreal. We had a dorm which had it’s own bathroom etc and the camping grounds had a Pool, Restaurant, 2 Bars and a Supermarket we stayed there for 2 nights but wished we stayed for longer as it was a really good place to relax except there were Aussie’s everywhere and they were pretty wild at the bars at night, they just took over the place.
We spent one whole day touring the Island by foot, ferry and a gondola. The gondola’s were cool we got one for 50 euro which was 10 euro each and he took us through the little canals and up the Grand Canal which was unreal. We got a little lost on foot as everything looked the same and the map we had was not very good, thank god we came across the gondola man when we did as I think it would have taken us hours to get back to the bus station.
When we
Nice in France
View from the headland - Mediterranean Sea went to go for a swim at the camp site and it was then we realised we had left our swimmers back at the hotel in Singapore and I didn’t have a spare though Lucas had another pair of boardies so he was cool. I had to search all the shops in Venice to try and find a pair of bikini’s and after hours I finally found some which were a reasonable price, so I was stoked. We really liked Venice except the only downfall was that it was very expensive.
We then caught the Eurail up to Milan where we stayed for one night which we did not enjoy at all. Firstly we arrived in the train station and some of the others put their bags down (Jayne & Liam) and then they grabbed what they thought was all their bags as they wanted to go an look in the Vodaphone shop and forgot Jayne’s hand bag and within a matter of seconds it was gone. We did not even see anyone take it but the place was so dodgy with the dodgiest people hanging around. After half an hour in the Police Station we finally could go
Nice in France
The beach at Nice and try and find our hotel. As we got outside the train station we saw the park and it was filled with drunks and feral looking men. They even pissed right on the foot path in front of you it was so disgusting!!! We went to central Milan that night for dinner and the restaurant we ate at was the best thing about Milan as we received 2 free entrée dishes and we were stoked!!!. Milan was so not what I expected it to be like at all.
We then caught the Eurail over to Nice in France and I must say it the best place we have been so far with the friendliest people too. We stayed at a hotel called “Hotel Paradise” and it was right on the beach and the weather was just unreal, hot, sunny, 30◦c and the water was aqua blue. We had 4 nights there and it was just unreal. We spent one day at Monte Carlo in Monaco where we saw all the million dollar boats at the mariner and ferrari’s everywhere. We spent the day at the beach there and it was so good. We went to this Irish Pub in
Monte Carlo, Monaco
$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$
Lucas wished he could hire the Ferrari and the boat for the day!! Nice one night and it was really good and Liam even got up and sang two songs with the band and he sounded unreal.
We are off to Spain and have a 10 hour train ride ahead of us, so not looking forward to that but on the other hand cannot wait to get to Spain and try out my Spanish I learnt at school.
