The Wind Star
At anchor just of Mykonos. Hello Everyone
Well here we are, anchored just a couple of hundred metres from the town of Mykonos, on the Island of Mykonos. We were two of the first passengers aboard at 1 pm and, after registration, explored the boat and then got unpacked. It is certainly nice to have everything put in drawers again, or hanging in wardrobes. We left Athens right on 4.30 pm, and sat on the pool deck at the rear watching as we sailed out of port and away. It was so nice just sitting watching the sea and all the other boats (mainly ferries) around us, that we didn't bother to go to the talk on shore excursions, having already booked ours anyway. They will fill our mornings for the next four days. We did however find time to go to the shop, and bought the last Windstar Cruises Bear in stock! Sorry Tony, we are keeping this one. We struck up a conversation with 2 or 3 couples while on deck and unfortunately Karen's voice got weaker and weaker. It seems that she has some sort of laringitis. Can you imagine my Karen not being able to talk?! It struck us while we were

This is not the bridge. on deck that there seemed to be few people around! This boat seems almost too big for the numbers on board. It is proving great though; no queuing, no waiting, no collisions in the hallways or squeezing past people on ladders, and the opportunity to keep meeting the same people and getting to know a few names. Dinner was at 7.30 and, with a lot more conversation, lasted until about 9.30. We went to bed not long after 10. It was an exciting first day, and we were like a couple of kids with a new toy. Our estate room is very nice, with a lovely big comfy bed. We are quite taken with the circular shower and toilet, which give a lot more space than a square one. The shower is excellent, and the toilet works on a vacuum system like an aircraft, although has water sitting in it.
This morning I was awake by 5, had a shower and went up around the decks to watch us arrive in Mykonos. I brought Karen a cup of tea, and she joined me by about 6.30. The weather was lovely, and the early sun sparkled off the water. The

The bedroom end. sea was very calm, and we had felt no movement during the night. We had our breakfast early by the pool, rather than later in the Veranda (where breakfast and lunch is served, dinners being in the Restaurant). At 8 am we joined a Deck Walking group for 8 laps around the ship (2 minutes per lap), and then went ashore at 8.30, heading for the beach where Shirley Valentine was filmed. It was only a few minutes away by taxi, and almost deserted (Sunday morning). The Taverna in the film is still there untouched, except that it has had a big veranda added to the front of it. There are a lot of photos from the film still hanging inside. We had a paddle in the sea (lovely temperature and very clear water) and then sat at the Taverna for a glass of fresh orange juice, before returning to Mykonos by bus. After a walk through town, including viewing the famous windmills, we came back to the ship for lunch, a ferry service providing trips every half an hour each way. We have been advised not to use the ship's internet as it only works at dial-up speed. There

Lots of drawers, two writing desks, plenty of lighting, plenty of power points, chair and stool, ice bucket, etc. are plenty of fast broadband outlets on shore, so we will be returning soon to use one.
It is hard to explain the level of service on this ship other than to say that the Queen herself would hardly get better. Absolutely everything that you could possibly need is provided, and provided with not only a smile, but with positive interest by the officers and crew in everyone's welfare. The food is amazing; the quantity, the quality, and the choice. It doesn't matter if it is out of season or whatever. They get it from somewhere. The cabin service is excellent. This morning I spent half an hour on the bridge, which is always open. The 2nd officer was on watch and was very happy to chat and explain the radar and other instruments to me. After only one day of seven, we already feel that we are part of a family. It is no wonder that people keep returning to sail with Windstar again.

Good Morning Karen and Peter, though it must be around 20.10 hours where you are. After a night of torrential rain I was surprised not to see the garden flooded when I went to get The Press from the drive. The Headlines this morning is "Storm batters, sinks boats". Poor Lyttelton copted again yesterday. Snow on Banks Peninsular, high of 9D today, so my Friends, you are certainly in the best place. Enjoy the sunshine, eat well, and hopefully Karen you are feeling better and are back with 'Full Voice'. Regards, Jean and Jack
