Breakfast in the Bio Room. Let's pretend for a minute that it's still December and I didn't actually miss two weeks of writing in my journal on account of being lazy...ok, enough pretending, the imagination door has been closed. So therefore, I've got a bit old fun pile of catching up to do. On Friday the 19th we had our last day of school. First period class that day was Biology and we ate breakfast together. Everyone brought their own silverware and dishes and then contributed by bringing one more other food item such as nutella, orange juice, brötchen or cheese. I brought peanut butter, because it's not quite as popular here as in the U.S. A couple of the kids hadn't ever ever tried it before. And I'm proud to say that it turned out to be a pretty big hit. After that the choir had to go to the church across the street and sing for a little christmas mass.
On Saturday I...well actually I totally can't remember what I did on Saturday. My guess though is something completely irrelevant like sitting around at home reading or watching movies or some other such thing.
Sunday, though, was interesting although not a whole
Weinachtsbaum
Our lovely christmas tree! lot happened. Ralph, Laura, and I went out to the stables a little ways out of town where Laura rides horse to shop for a christmas tree. When we finally picked one out we brought it home and laura and I decorated it together. It turned out looking quite nice and It was also my first real christmas tree. All the years before we had been using a plastic one.
Teresa arrived by train on the 22nd. I went to pick her up at the station and when I saw her I started squealing. You would have too if you han't seen your sister for like six months. I then took her to the Christmas Market and showed her a bit of the city. The next day, the 23rd, she and I took the train to cologne where we did a bit of shopping and had a cup of coffee and whatnot. Nothing of particular interest took place ...at least not that I can remember, by this point it's already been a considerably long time ago. I supose that's the problem with being a procrastinator though, you put off writing for one day, then two, then the next thing
Monschau
Teresa and I blocking the lovely view of the villiage. you know it's 2009 and you missed half of last year! No matter though because if it were anything truly worth remembering then I would have remembered it.
The 24th was, of course, Christmas Eve, and that's when a majority of the celebrating is done in Germany. Monika's sister and her family came to dinner as well as Grandma. We all went o Christmas services together at the church farther up the street. After church we opened presents. After presents we ate dinner. It's a pretty familiar drill.
Christmas day held little to no festivities. Ralph, Monika, Teresa and I went to Monschau for the day, just to walk around the villiage and see all the pretty old houses. It really is very quaint. It didn't take long though for Christmas to pass by completely, then it was Friday, the 26th, Teresa and I woke up and left for Düsseldorf around noon. She and I met up with Joe and found our hotel. We spent the day hanging out with him and the next morning we arrived at the airport a little earlier than we had planned. The flight, though, ended up being a lot later than expected.
The Bank
It was a Bank, but now it's a restraunt. According to Teresa it is the home of the world's most amazing salad. To start things off boarding didn't even begin until at least 20 minutes after the scheduled time. Once we were on the plane the lady told us that it was going to take another 15 to 20 minutes or so for the replacement pilot to arrive because the first one had called in sick that morning. This 15 minutes ended up bieng 30. However, he did eventually arrive, and when he did he announced that we would have to wait
still longer because of minor computer troubles. The kept telling us only 10 more minutes until all those 10 minutes added up to two hours. Which is the actual amount of time we spent sitting on that plane while grounded waiting to take a one hour fourty five minute flight.
We arrived in Dublin, but Teresa and I were so exhausted that we wanted nothing more than to find our hotel and sleep. Which we did eventually, but not without some difficulty. After recooperating a bit Teresa and I went into the city. For the rest of that day and for the next couple to follow Teresa and I pretty much just explored the city and hopped from one
Mr. Wilde
Statue of Oscar Wilde constructed out of many different colors of granite. cofee shop to the next. One day we took a tour bus around the city and saw all those cool touristy things like St. Patrick's cathedral and Trinity college. Dublin was very clean, the lack of animal excrement allowed a person to admire all the beautiful buildings rather than cautionsly looking towards your feet. One night we visited Temple Bar, which is one of the most famous of the 714 pubs in Dublin. There was traditional Irsh music being played there, live. The atmostphere was actually very cozy. I teen had it's own gift shop. I can't say enough how gorgeous Dublin was. The people were friendly and genuinely so. Not in the " I'll just smile cause I'm spose to" sort of way. Teresa and I had many spontaneous conversations with bus drivers, random people on the street, hotel employees, and bartenders. I have every intention of returning to Dublin some day.
