I'm happy to announce that all my classes were finally approved. I'm taking an English class called Romanticism which is so far so good, I'm also taking a Christianity Cultural Consequences classes about the beginnings of literacy and Christianity in Ireland and its very interesting, I'm also taking Women's Studies which will be okay, and lastly I'm taking Philosophy which right now is really confusing and I can't really understand my teacher yet. So I will let you know how these go as the semester moves on when I'm not so bitter about certain classes! But the good news is that I don't have any classes on Wednesday or Fridays!
Galway is awesome, I love the little town feeling and I love that I can walk anywhere. It is about a 20 minute walk from my apartment to the city centre where there is a ton of little shops and restaurants and pubs. Most of the city dates back to medieval times, which is awesome because this whole country has so much more history than The United States!
Even on the rainiest of days there are people out and about in the city centre, but what I find amusing is
when the kids get let out of school. The town is small enough and there are so many of them that I feel like there a little blue army running around on the same mission to ransack the town! It hilarious, they all seem like their up to something every time, and their parents never seem to be around.
Last weekend we went on a walking tour of Galway and after we got to peruse the farmers market that happens every Saturday. They have fresh product and lunch of all different kinds and so much more. We got a little flower for our kitchen and some potatoes and veggies to cook with. It was awesome. When lunch came around we all got something different at the market and went to the bay to have a little picnic, guys this life is hard...haha. My friend Elisabeth and I got some Sundried Tomato and Onion homemade bread with some Galway goat cheese and some roasted garlic hummus. It was perfect, although brushing our teeth was a must!
The next day we went on a bus tour to Connemara National Park, Kylemore Abbey and a little town called Cong where there was
a beautiful ruin of an old abbey. Every place we stopped seemed better than the last and Kylemore Abbey was gorgeous!
What else? We've gone out a few times but we've noticed it gets expensive to buy drinks all the time. It seems that my heart is never in it at first when we go out to the pubs but once I get there I always seem to have a great time. The other night there was an international students society welcome party for us at a hotel bar, it was packed and there was so many people but it was a blast! When the night was over, after a few drinks I might add, we decided to get a taxi back. As we were walking towards one the Irish boys came walking down the street whistling at us and singing and such (which happens more than you'd think) and I said KEEP WALKING to which they responded GET OUT OF MY COUNTRY!
As a result, my friends were embarrassed and so was I! But it was hilarious! Its just good I'll never see them again!
Most of us here have realized that finding our very own Jerry
(from P.S. I Love You) is not really going to happen. The Irish guys we have met so far are more interested in getting hammered than meeting girls. So I think I might have to take a bunch of walks by myself in the national parks to meet my own Jerry! So the update on that is...no Jerry yet.
We are making plans to go to Berlin to see our friend Bess whose studying in Madrid run the Berlin Marathon. We are meeting a bunch of SLU people from Madrid and Rome there to hang out for the weekend. Getting tickets are a nightmare, RyanAir must hate Berlin or something because all of the tickets are expensive, boo.
Well, I think this is a good update for now. I hope everything is great back home and I miss everyone. I'm also not sure who is reading this at this point but I'll keep doing it for now.
