Mona Lisa
It was bigger than I expected. Hi Guys,
Its about time for an update on life in London.
Firstly - NO PICKING ON MY SPELLING!
On 26th May Mum and Dad arrived in London in the wee hours of the mornin at Heathrow. After 2 days of trying to keep them awake we had seen the sights of London and even saw the Lion King in very hot weather (didn't last long).
On the 28th we caught the Eurostar to Paris and spent 3 days seeing all the hot spots, Louvre, Champs Elysee, Arc de Triomphe, Moulin Rouge, Notre Dame, etc etc. On day four it was off to Disneyland Resort!!!!! Talk about a regression into my childhood, and the same goes for mum and dad.
Next it was a casual navigation from hell through the streets of Paris with no the decent map as my dad drove the latest Peurgeot (damn my spelling!) on the first leg of the journey. After realising that the screaming in the back seat clearly indicated he was on the wrong side of the road we settled into an 11 hour trip to Mellendorf in Germany. We went through the North of France and had Belgium
Fries in Leige, then it was through Hannover to see the rellies in Mellendorf. After being force fed German for 2 days we left the rellies and headed to Berlin. I finally got to see the bust of Neferititi in Berlin and saw where mum lived in Berlin as a kid as well as meeting Grandad's best friends. We saw the sights of Berlin - the Dom, Alexander Platz, Brandenburg Gate etc.
From here we headed through Dresden and Usti to Prague in the Czech Republic. I loved every minute of the place especially sunset over Charles Bridge. The next day saw us exploring Prasky Hrad and the Royal Palace Grounds, St Vitus Cathedral and the Old Town and stuffing our faces with desserts that none of us could attempt to pronounce.
So then off to Salzburg and the home of Mozart in the Austrian Alps. We made our way through Linz to a very sweet Gausthaus called Kirchenwalt in Puch Olberalm in Hallein. We ate and drank and listened to a German band in the restaurant. We crashed that night in a room with a view over the snow capped alps.
The next day Tyson and
May favourite Pic of them all!
A childhood dream comes true...yes sad I know! Anna had Otto Nicolas Ritter - Congrats!
After a early morning Sauna we caught the train to Salzburg City for shopping etc. We saw the Mirabell Platz, Stats Brucke and the Old Town. The Funicular Train to see the Festung Hobensalburg Schloss was great fun. The rest of the evening was spent eating, in the sauna and steam room and trying to ignore my parents continual snoring!!!
On the road to Venice...It snowed as we left the Autobahn in Salzburg. We made it to our hotel in Mestre in Venice by 2pm so we caught the bus to Venice Island. I feel in love with the place and wish you all could have seen the sunset. We simple lost ourselves in the magical maze of side streets and bridges. We went shopping on the Rialto Bridge and had dinner on the Grande Canal. Everyone vanishes from the streets around 7pm and there is an eary calm. The next day we caught water boats all over the place including to the Island of Lido. At the Piazza San Marco mum was assulted by a pigeon mob and dad and I resigned to taking many pictures and laughing our butts
Neferititi
Up close and personal in Berlin. off. We explored Doge's Palace and Prisons (Where Galileo was kept).
All roads lead to Rome...if you have a decent map! So after a few hours of navigational issues we made it to Rome in one piece. Well done to Dad for not having killed us in the insanity of it all.
Our apartment was fantastic and I had a wonderful double bed to myself in my own room and finally I slept like a baby. We could take a quick walk from our place to the Colosseum. There were many brides having their wedding shots and guess what...the colosseum only takes CASH! Its amazing how if you try you can scramble to find €30 worth of notes and coins for 3 people. After watching the sun go down on the Colosseum we made our way up Via dei Fori Imperiali to Piazza Venezia and Il Vittoriano. Continuing through to see Trajan's Column and Fontana di Trevi. We shopped and ate to our hearts content. It was very hot (35 degrees) and the Romans do not believe in air con.
Mum and Dad kindly drove me back to the Campino airport on Monday evening so head back
to London and work the next morning. I made it back home by 1am and began packing my bags to move house.
Since the trip I have moved into my own place in Tooting. It was nice to have a place for mum and dad to stay when they got back to London 11 days later. I took them to the Camden Markets, Harrods and the London Eye.
I think we all had a wonderful time and now I am planning my next trip to Madrid and Barcelona to see Greg. Can't wait.
See you all soon.
Cheers
Tania
