"What time do they arrive?" I asked . It was a lovely warm June morning and my thoughts had been around the fact that the month was halfway through. We were racing headlong to the longest day when it would be halfway through the year . The days would remain constant for a few weeks before they slowly would start to draw in. July was just around the corner . We still have two months of Summer left so best enjoy it whilst we can . " What are you doing ?" I asked . I had reached the main road and had seen the signs for a cycle race . There was a gazebo set up on the corner with much activity going on beneath it . I was told the bicycle riders would be ... read more

I don't know what it is about my home town but I keep finding things to do and see . A trip to town today meant hanging around while the driver went for his eyes tested . I knew I had some time on my hands as the opticians are never on time calling you in . The test seems to take forever . The photographs of behind the eyes , the puffer tests to check for glaucoma and picking glasses seem to take a lifetime . The waiting gave me chance to wander round the quiet streets with phone in hand looking for things to photograph . It never takes me long to find something I have not spotted before . It might be the thatched roof of the Horse and Jockey pub , the ... read more

I always knew she was somewhere round the town. I had never really looked for her . My parents had told me about her . She had been moved and no doubt the woke brigade would like to pull her down . She started life in the Guildhall Square before she was shipped out to a quiet corner in the Belle Vue Park . I had talked about going to find her yesterday and had I chosen that day to find her I would perhaps instead have found a dead body . The park was closed off due to the sudden discovery of a corpse presumably a drug addict who had died from an overdose or the remains of someone who died from natural causes . Today I was lucky in that there were no police ... read more

Town - the city seemed empty this morning . I parked the car up as I usually did in the supermarket car park . There were folks about doing their early morning shopping but the roads seemed suspiciously quiet . What is it about this sort of morning that makes you think it feels odd but you just cannot put your finger on it . I walked across to the swimming baths . I never noticed the lights were not on but what I did notice was the fact that there seemed to be no young ladies going in for spin classes or the gym. Neither was there any groups of youngsters milling around after the swimming club session . The doors were firmly locked and I just could not get a hang on why. I ... read more

What shall we do today? The "What is going on in the town " book came out and I noticed that there was a display of metal Forget Me Nots at Erddig Hall . These beautiful flowers were used by the hospice to fundraise . Last year or was it the year before they sold Forget me Not plants and set them all out in the hospice gardens . This year was a different plan . To produce metal Forget me Nots , sell them for £30 , place them in the Meadow at Erddig and then the owners could pick them up and put them in their own gardens . That was an excuse to go and see them . Erddig is not far from us and it was only a few minutes from home ... read more

So nothing goes on in the town ? Why have we got a parade of honking fire engines ? Ambulances with their blue lights flashing ? Motor bikes and police cars ? It is a sunny day and we are heading for the last football match of the season. The semi final which might take us out of the Vanarama League into the English Football League next season . We play Grimsby - the Shrimpers . We finished second . They finished lower . Why on earth we have to play for promotion I have little idea but it does annoy us . If we lose we are stuck with non league football for the 15th year . We had high hopes for the season with our new owners and the renewed interest in the town ... read more

"When you are out pick up a newspaper " That is an unusual request these days. When I swim that is all I do. I never nip off to pick up the local rag. There is never anything worth reading in it . But today I was informed was different . There was a whole section on the local Football team - Wrexham AFC . That is Wrexham Association Football club not Wrexham Athletic as our local MP spoke about in the Houses of Parliament . Not once did she get the name wrong but twice . But that is an aside . She won't be MP next election . The town is playing on Sunday in the final of the FA Trophy competition at Wembley . There is great excitement with around 20K tickets sold ... read more

What is it about being home that makes you want to go away again? No sooner you settle down and think you don't want to travel again you change your mind . The merry go round of emotions of being home, wanting to go away and see other things than your own back yard begin again . It should have been a week of doing something . But the weather had snookered that one well and truly. It seemed to rain most days and the rain was more April like than what we expect in May. Despite promises of the hottest day of the year so far nothing was further from the truth . It felt cold and miserable . More early Spring than late Spring /early summer . Certainly not shorts and T shirt weather ... read more

So what's going to happen in the football match this lunchtime ? That was the direction of the conversation over breakfast . But not breakfast at home . We had a date at the Cae Ras for the penultimate match of the football season . We lie in second place behind Stockport County the team above us who look to be on the way to winning the league and promotion . It was a Sunday match which is highly unusual . A match that if Stockport win will make them champions . And we don't want that do we ? . Most matches are Saturday afternoons or midweek on a Tuesday . This one is being televised as it is seen as the game of the season . Over a bacon sandwich and two cups of ... read more

Maharishi Mahesh Yogi once said that being happy is of the utmost importance . He added that success in anything in through happiness . We felt happy at being home. Happy that we had finally managed to leave our shores. Happy that we felt able to get out and about without worrying too much about Covid. To be fair it is still there . We are no longer bombarded with facts and figures on numbers of cases as there are more important things going on in the world . We no longer get Boris on the TV but we from time to time hear it is the summer and of course the virus will die down . But and there is always a but - it will return in the Autumn, the 2nd boosters are well ... read more
