As it is the first day of the rest of Ineke's life, in that she's got a more flexible contract at work and can thus have some time off, we celebrated with a day by the sea. Lovely. As its leap year weekend, we had to find some caches too, for a souvenir, and on Monday we're going to a caching event in Shrewsbury - in a pub!... read more

Hooray. despite a chilly wind, we had wall to wall sunshine today, and it feels like spring might be on the way. So we took ourselves to Attingham near Shrewsbury, where the snowdrops are beautiful ........ and there are lots of caches! We've come home looking rather red cheeked, and tired after a day in the fresh air.... read more

I had planned a trip to Glasgow this week to share Jack's birthday celebrations, but the floods had badly damaged a bridge en route, and there are no trains after Carlisle at least till February. Having looked at alternative ways of getting there, all very lengthy and some quite difficult, I decided I'd stay at home. So we came up with a second best plan, and Alex and I had a good walk along the canal near Llangollen on Monday, walking right up to where the canal starts as it takes water from the River Dee. We found lots of caches whilst we were there too! Then, almost as I decided not to head north, we had a phone call from Cathy (relative from NZ) to ask whether she and Anita could pop up for a ... read more

Dad's Christmas present was a trip to Shrewsbury 10 pin bowling, and today was the day to go. It was a convoluted journey as the bridge over the River Severn we usually use is closed due to flood damage. Not to worry, there are other bridges. But our road was closed due to a car accident, so diversion number one. We found our way again only to be taken on a scenic route by the mapreader! And when we eventually got where we wanted to be, that road was closed for road works and another diversion in place. Eventually we arrived, to find the bowing alleys empty, we could choose which one. We only played one game, as we thought better to leave before we ached! And it was very close, but Dad won! That was ... read more

In view of yet more heavy rain in the night, we thought we'd have a stroll along the towpath today and save those 4 paws from getting too muddy. We picked dad up on the way and had a lovely stroll along the canal, admiring the sun on the hills and the flooded fields in turn.... read more

..... today in the church in Llanfair there was a display of knitted Christmas carols. Truly. Someone had been very busy and the result was a work of art. Karen, Marion and I met for a viewing and a cuppa, and were impressed; also met up with people we hadn't seen for a while, so all good.... read more

Caroline, Ineke, Alex and I decided to take a trip to Chester yesterday evening to see the lights and the Christmas market. We had a lovely time of course, even catching the lantern parade which was for one night only! And safely home by 9.15 as some people had to go to work early this morning.... read more

Dad, Alex and I set off for a walk near Church Stretton today, followed by a little light geocaching! Unfortunately Ineke had a sore throat so stayed at home. Our plans were thwarted straight away by the roads across the Long Mynd being closed due to snow and ice, neither of which was evident to our untrained eyes. So we made a new plan, and used Mum's membership card for the National Trust to park in the scenic Cardingmill valley and have a walk there. Don't tell anyone! It was lovely! We ate our picnic in the car, whilst watching blackbirds stuffing themselves with berries on a nearby Rowan tree. After that we wended our way home, with a glorious sight of the sun on the snow of the Berwyns, REAL snow!... read more
