We often go out on a Monday as Alex has Mondays off work. Last week we had lots to do at home, but this week we took ourselves to Torrent walk near Dolgellau, where, due to some heavy rain in the hills over the weekend, the torrent was truly torrential. I'm relying on Alex's photos here as I didn't take a camera, and he never takes pictures of people.....but it was lovely. In the evening, Dad and I went to an illustrated talk about another river, the Vyrwny, very interesting and more great pictures.... read more

Can you believe it? After playing 9 holes of good golf on Monday, Dad slipped while putting the clubs in the car, and broke his wrist. After a lot of hanging around at hospitals, he got plastered up and we got home about 2 am! The photos are taken the following day. Then yesterday, we went to the fracture clinic where his wrist was "manipulated" very painfully and a new plaster put on. Today he feels not so good, unsurprisingly. But I thought you'd like to see the signing of the original plaster, now sadly in a bin somewhere in Shrewsbury!... read more

As I've been driving round the lanes this week, I've been aware that the orchids are making a good show in the hedgerows. So this evening I wandered over to see how those in my wood are doing. Answer..... beautiful. Here are some photos... read more

As I hadn't seen the Coopers for a while, I drove up last week, and as Ineke had no work, she came too. We set off early on Monday morning and were there by lunch time. That afternoon we had a lovely walk along beside a little river to see the bluebells and wood anemones. We went to see Martha's nursery, she's starting next Monday, and had a trip to the playground. One morning we went up to Loch Lomond and spent the afternoon in the sun in the garden. And the time flew by and we came home again yesterday. Look at the pictures to see how much fun we had.... read more

Yesterday Dad and I went on the Llangyniew coach trip to Llandudno. We went the scenic route, which turned out to be rather wet over the high ground, but luckily the rest of the day was sunny, if chilly. There was a Victorian event held over the Bank Holiday weekend, but we saw little evidence of it at first, so took ourselves on the tram to the top of the Great Orme. The views were wonderful, and we spent some time up there before the descent, and walking back along the prom to catch the bus.... read more

I have known my oldest friend, Beth, since we were born, as our mothers were in the maternity hospital together. We went to the same primary school, but since we grew older, we have always lived at opposite ends of the country which makes visiting harder. Enter "the Old Ladies railcard" which makes it all possible with little effort. So I went on the train to Kent for a few days and walked along the White cliffs of Dover, strolled through a beautiful bluebell wood and had a look at the town of Hythe. Plenty of chatting and eating, and a good time was had by all.... read more

Dad and I took ourselves off for lunch today, and we went to the Kerry Vineyard. It was a lovely warm day, how different from the wind of yesterday, and we had a look round the vines after we'd eaten. It is apparently built on the site of a Roman fort, and there is a well (Perspex covered, but you can walk over it and see into it ) inside the café which could date from Roman times. Then we drove up over the nearby Kerry Ridgeway, admired the views, and came back via the Anchor. Thought you might also like to see the champion's cup that Dad and his partner won at bridge for the highest average score, its all engraved with their names. How proud are we?... read more

There's a rocky ridge you can just about see from here - if you look east towards England, called The Stiperstones, and Alex wanted to go there today for a walk. Well, it was rocky and windy and we had a lovely time. At the bottom of the hill is a visitor centre where there were leaflets with lots of interesting walks, so I think we'll be going that way again before long. Its an old lead mining area, so lots of old chimneys and mine buildings.... read more

This year Dad's birthday fell on the day of the Twenty20 World cup final, and as England were playing and Dad has Skye on the TV, it was felt that a few of us should congregate at his house and watch it together. So a "cricket tea" of sandwiches, scones and birthday cake was taken to Meifod, a bottle of fizzy wine opened, rather earlier than expected but we needed it after England lost early wickets, and an exciting afternoon was had in good company. Shame about the last over......... Today, Alex, Dad and I went out for lunch and have returned feeling rather full. I'm glad I'm not going out to play bridge tonight!... read more
