For Sophie's birthday I said I'd babysit while she and Tom went out. So I drove up to Glasgow and spent a few days with the Coopers. Their new room is finished, carpeted and furnished, so I slept on a brand new sofa bed and also had my own loo! We had a jolly time, the children were very good for my babysitting hours, and now I'm home again. Here are some pictures.... read more

I thought it was time I went to see Liz, so I stopped with my friend Hilary for a couple of nights and then its only an hour down the motorway. No photos of Hil I'm afraid, but one or two of Liz and cousin Jeremy who also came for lunch. Liz was very jolly despite a very nasty infection before Christmas and a mouth full of ulcers thanks to host v. donor. And today Alex had his hair cut so there's a before and after.... read more

Not a wonderful looking day but we had to take Bella for a walk anyway, so we headed north near Oswestry (where we could drop the iPad in to be beaten into submission ) and walked along the canal - where there was plenty of mud as a tractor had been up and down the towpath. Then a spot of caching round the nearby Ironworks, which is like being on safari, only safer! This is a free venue with lots to see. They've had Uri Geller there to make a huge baboon out of spoons collected specially by locals. And now they're co-ordinating a knife collection, taken from street fights I think, and they're being turned into an enormous angel, the blades making the underside of the wings. Then along some very muddy lanes for a ... read more

Alex and Ineke both had a day off work today so we set off for the coast. A sunny day was promised and so it turned out. We walked along beside the sea, found a recently hidden cache in a nature reserve, had a picnic lunch, another walk and a cup of hot chocolate/coffee before we set off home again. Perfect.... read more

I can't believe myself! No sooner had I said goodbye to Sophie, Martha and Jack, than I was invited to a ceilidh last night, to see the New Year in. We danced and danced and had a wonderful time, arriving home around 1 am! Then today, Lynda, Alex and I went to the seaside with some sandwiches and a thermos of tea. We had a lovely walk, a picnic in the car, which was parked on the beach, (entertainment provided by some kite surfers who kept falling in!) and a couple of geocaches on the way home. Perfect. I feel weather beaten and rather tired, ready for a nice fire to sit beside later. I hope to keep busy in 2017, interspersed with plenty of relaxing bits! and I hope you all have a great year ... read more

Well, another Christmas day over, and here are the photos to prove it. We went to Dads on Christmas eve for some pork he'd been saving for us, then for the turkey on Christmas day. Alex was working from 7 till 1, but he was in plenty of time for the feast. My friend Lynda turned up, with impeccable timing, bearing mince pies, just as Dad opened a bottle of fizz . The dinner was delicious, and after it had gone down a bit, we opened our presents and dozed a bit. Yesterday Alex and I went for a long walk with Bella in the forest, while Dad headed to Abermule to see Mum. This evening Sophie and the children are arriving from Glasgow, to give Tom some time to work in peace. That is a ... read more

On Thursday evening Ineke, Caroline, Alex and I set off for the Roman city of Chester, about an hours drive away. The was celebration of the Roman feast of Saturnalia which sounded like fun, and it certainly was a spectacle. I felt a bit sorry for the Romans in their sandals in the rain, but it looked as if they enjoyed themselves. Anyway, there were lots of lights and torches, crowds of people and a huge parade afterwards. Well worth going to see. And thanks to Alex for some photos.... read more

Well, that's probably every season and every day! But, it was wreath making time in Llangyniew, which meant that lots of bits and pieces had to be gathered from forest and garden. Luckily there'd been some wind through the woods a couple of weeks ago, bringing down some branches here and there, easy pickings for the foragers. And we had two beautiful blue sky and frosty days for collecting up what we needed. This morning Ineke, Lynda and I did a little guerrilla tree decorating in the woods for our dog walking friends. Everyone will now bring more decorations to hang on the branches as they pass, well that's what happened last year.... read more
