Alex chose a good week to sprain his ankle - the week of the panto! Still, he managed to limp onto the stage and gave a good account of himself as the ghost of Jacob Marley, in Llanfair's "wot the Dickens", based on Christmas Carol. And the ankle is improving daily, though a shoe will still not fit (Cinderella).... read more

While I was in Scotland it was Ineke's birthday, so as she had a day off yesterday and it was a lovely sunny day, I took her to Macynlleth to buy her present (which I spotted last summer while we camping near there). Needless to say, the thing I had in mind was no longer there...... but we amused ourselves for and hour or two - Ineke was chatting up the natives! and she said a day out was a lovely present, and we had Welsh rarebit for lunch too.... read more

Autumn is definately upon us, the season of mellow fruits, silky brown conkers, mists , leaves changing colour on the trees and dew on cobwebs. Gardens are not at their best at this time of year as the flowers have gone over but sometimes you find a garden that bucks the trend and Powys Castle near Welshpool or Trallwng to give it its welsh name is that garden. We noticed the car park was big enough for motorhomes and when we left there were two parked up. Why can't everywhere be like this? The castle itself built of red gritstone is known as Castell Coch in Welsh. Coch ... read more

This trip was a birthday present from last year. We had a boat for 10 people for a day. It was great fun, if rather daunting at the start, due to the fact that the first task was to steer across an aqueduct 216 feet in the air. You can see the terror in my face. However, we took it ij turns and most of us got the knack of it, with only minimal damage to the canal banks!... read more
