It was another busy week for Alex, as his amateur dramatic group - The LADS - performed a play every night. It was written by one of the LADS, and sponsored by the Royal Shakespear Company, so had to have something to do with Shakespeare. In true Shakesperian tradition it was outside with no scenery, but an excellent show. It was about skullduggery in Stratford after William had died, and apparently based on fact. Marion, Lynda and I took a picnic to eat before the show, and luckily they sold hot drinks at "Ye Olde Inne" as the evening turned pretty chilly after a beautiful day. ... read more

Our usual haymaker was unable to help this year, so we asked another neighbour about cutting the hay. He arrived with state of the art machinery and had the job done almost before I could find the camera. He only needed about 4 turns round the field to cut. And then arrived with a big round baler - in our little field! While Alex was helping out in the local hospice shop, he found a tent and decided to buy it, just in case we went camping. We'd already decide that neither of us was in favour of sharing the small 2 man tent we had already, so its a good plan. Here he is trying it out. ... read more

After whizzing through a few household tasks - like sawing wood! - we took ourselves off to see the newly hatched osprey chicks near Machynlleth. Last year there were only eggs, but this year 3 chicks hatched. Its the first time in many years that ospreys have bred in this area. Of course you can only see through a telescope which has been trained on the nest, and through CCTV cameras via a big screen in the shop/ wildlife trust centre. The parent birds are huge and spectacular, the chicks kept very still when mum was away, and looked just like sticks in the nest. As we were so close to the sea and it was such a beautiful day, we spent an hour or two at Ynys Las, on the opposite side of the estuary ... read more

Dad had to take the car to Shrewsbury for a service today, so Mum and I took ourselves to Welshpool for a coffee and a look round. It was lovely in the sunshine. I couldn't resist collecting firewood on the way home, and had to squeeze it in round the wheelchair. Later we went for a walk on Dolanog hill, and Maisie made a new friend, Claire's puppy called Poppy. She must be getting old, as there was never a growl at all!!!... read more

Last night, our neighbour brought up the trailer full of wood that we'd loaded on the back field over Easter, and tipped it outside the front door (as requested!). Unfortunately, after weeks of dry sunny days, it poured with rain and we had to move it because we couldn't drive up to the house! So I got rather wet in the morning and Alex in the afternoon, when he got home from work. ... read more

Our old girls suddenly seemed to have run out of eggs, having managed to keep the supply going through that very cold winter. So they deserve their retirement (I suppose). Thus Joan, Alex and I took ourselves to a nearby farm whose hen shed was being "emptied" tomorrow, and rescued 6 old(ish) girls from a grisly fate in a soup factory, and carried them off to a new home - hen house 2 - where they seem chatty and comfy. Not allowed out for a few days though! Today we had 4 eggs. ... read more

After a browse round Welshpool yesterday - there are lots of birthdays in the beginning of May - we treated ourselves to coffee at the well decorated Inglenook cafe. Then a walk in the woods at Pontrobert. More glorious sunshine today saw us in the bluebell woods, the scent is wonderful. ... read more

What a wonderful Easter weekend. Sue and Steve arrived back after their tour of Cornwall, Sophie and Tom popped down for a couple of days, the weather was better than the Med, and we had a lovely time. Eggs were painted and rolled down hills, wine was drunk, traveller's told their stories, next winter's firewood was collected and thrown onto an awaiting trailer, orchids were remarked upon(though other people's camera's took much better pics than mine), a steam train was ridden on and a castle stormed. Busy or what. Sit back and see what we did.... read more

Happy Easter everyone. We hope you all had a great day. Today was another great day. We thought we would have a relaxing and quiet morning until we discovered there was a steam train departing from Llanfair going into Welshpool. Steve and I had hoped that we may be able to have a ride on the steam train so we quickly got organized and then Carrie kindly dropped us to the Station. The little steam train took us along the river and through the fields and into Welshpool. The trip took about 50 minutes and we thoroughly enjoyed it. We were met in Welshpool by Uncle Roy and Aunty Gwen who, very kindly, took us out to lunch at the Lakeside Golf Club. We had a wonderful lunch and were absolutely spoilt. THANKYOU AUNTY GWEN AND ... read more
