It's Alex's lucky day. After his little purple car bit the dust a couple of weeks ago, he's been without wheels, which is difficult when you live here. But on Monday, some friends offered him their old car, since neither can use it any longer, and after a day spent sorting out insurance yesterday, and this morning buying and fitting a new battery, he drove it home victoriously. Now he's gone down to show it off to Mum and Dad. And to prove it, here are the pictures. And as you see, the snow has gone, we got up the drive for the first time in 2 weeks yesterday. ... read more

We were lucky that we could actually get to Mum and Dads for christmas, as the snow was very deep. But I thoughtfully left the car at the bottom of the drive, so we had access to the road. I had popped up to Leeds on Thursday to fetch Sophie after the show - Pinocchio, which I was able to watch, so we were all together. Except Tom went to his Mum, and arrived here on Sunday. Sorry, pictures of him seem to be on someone else's camera. I had to work Monday and Tuesday mornings, but it wasn't very hard work, just helping people who had skidded about on ice and listening to tales of burst pipes and frozen water supplies. ... read more

We had another lot of snow yesterday and today. Very pretty, but makes things harder - like getting to work. Luckily we managed to get stocks in last weeek whilst we could get the car up the drive, so we'll survive. Alex is out sawing up moire wood, which for some reason he'd not done befroe. At least its there to be sawn. ... read more

Kate and I met about half way between our houses as usual - luckily there's a good selection of walking places to choose from. We decided to meet near one of Thomas Telford's aquaducts, high above the river Dee. (It carries the canal across the valley.) But the car park was Kate's side of the river, and the road bridge was closed due to an incident with a bus, so the start of the walk was delayed while we found each other - you guessed it, by walking across the aquaduct. Anyway, the rain held off, and we walked along the canal, over the aquaduct and a bit of Offa's Dyke too. We took a picnic, and I was so tired when I got home that I snoozed instead of cooking tea!... read more

Crazy weren't we? Flying to Dublin for a day. We left home at 2.30am, drove to Liverpool airport and flew to Dublin all before 7.30am! But it was wonderful. The flights were spectacular, if short!, and Dublin was relaxed and everyone we met really friendly. A group of 5 of us went from work as Caroline had never been on a plane before and Dublin seemed accessible for a day trip. And so it was - but not too often! We got home again at 8.30 pm.... read more
