well, Tom drove up from poole, to pick Sophie up and take her back to Leeds. But as heavy snow is forecast for tonight they decided to leave straight after tea, as they have to work tomorrow afternoon. I'm hoping we get snowed in. Then I don't need to go to work tomorrow, and can just sit in front of the fire and watch a video or 2. And let my ankle heal after its jolt with the sledge - it is now a taseful shade of purple and yellow, and very swollen. Yuk. ... read more

The snow reached us at last. The whole of Britain except Welshpool has had plenty, but now its our turn. Fortunately I drove up to Leeds yesterday to fetch Sophie (and her friend who lives near us), and when we left Abi's house, the first flakes fell. It was very pretty, but we only just got the car up the drive, and can't get it out again just yet! Never mind, we gave the toboggan an airing, and now Sophie is getting on with her Christmas jigsaw - an annual event. After lunch we shall attempt to get to Meifod! There's a turkey to stuff after all. Happy Christmas everyone, and hope to catch you on Skype in the morning, - well night to you I expect.... read more

Sophie is home - for one day only - as its their Dad's 60th birthday this weekend. We popped down to Welshpool for a takeaway curry, which we took to Meifod. Delicious and far too much. Then we all settled down to a jolly game of railroader, a game from my childhood which we discovered in the loft when we put the new insulation in. I shan't explain the rules, just its in the wild west, and you lay a track and race trains along - avoiding various pitfalls if you're lucky. ... read more

Alex and I took Mum on a shopping trip today, to spend all her money! We got the wheelchair into several shops, and she had a good look round. We were so long in town, we should have had lunch, not coffee! And we bought so much that we rewlly needed Sherpas to help carry it all.... read more

Welspool is a small Welsh town located nearby English border in Powys county. Town is quite similar to the other Welsh towns, not so exciting but more interesting than small towns in England. At the beginning I went into small Powysland Museum located at the main street Severn Road. I saw there bilingual inscriptions as anywhere else in Wales, I heard Welsh as well while I was walking around town centre. Main reason why I travelled overthere was Powys Castle. It is piece of cake to get there from town - visitor will spot the arrows with directions how to get to castle that is main touristic attraction in Welshpool. All of visitors must walk thought nice park or just drive from the other direction. This castle was build by last prince of Powys - Owain ... read more

We walked along the disused railway line today, down the estuary to Barmouth, a glorious walk of 7 miles. We started at a toll bridge near Dolgellau, walked along the southern side of the river to the mouth, where there's a railway bridge (with footpath included) over the river into town. There we feasted ourselves on fish and chips on the prom, before catching a bus back along the other side of the river. Just had to walk across the toll bridge, and there we were. A lovely day. Dog didn't like it much, too many aeroplanes whizzing about, so her favourite part was jumping into the car at the end. Well .... she quite liked the bus!!!!... read more
