Gabby the motorhome parked up last night on the Erw Lon campsite near to Llandovery. A fairly small site less regimented than a Caravan and Motorhome Club site. No pitching up to the white peg, no demands to park the right way and cheaper by some way. We were on a serviced pitch with water and electricity. The site was fairly busy and there was a little road noise which we soon got used to. The toilet block had been awarded the loo of the year in 2007 (if I remember accurately) and there were tidy single showers and wash rooms and some family rooms . The family rooms sadly were a little untidy . Not the problem of the room or the owners just the person who used it before us left bits of toilet ... read more

Communal Brunch for five, including everything anyone wanted and using about six burners. Mandy and Martin arrived next, and after a bit of chat together, they went off with Pete, Rae and Bushy for a "walk" - which apparently involved finding the highest nearby hill to fight their way to the top of! Meanwhile, Nick arrived in the final campervan with Philippa, who was going to stay with Mike and Linda.Eventually the others returned, just in time to wash and change before the 6pm taxi into town for our meal together. Twelve of us in all, really enjoying a meal and some time together before and after. No kms today, we'll make up for it tomorrow!... read more

Abergavenny If you’ve followed my blogs this year, you will have noticed that I went to New York in April. Before I go away I often do research on websites such as Tripadvisor. One of my favourite tripadvisor emails I received this year, was the one entitled “New York and Abergavenny are recommended for you”. Yes, I’d been researching both, but both are quite radically different! Different but equally valid destinations! Abergavenny provided me with a lovely holiday from a holiday! I wanted to spend some time with my Dad, and with the distractions and demands of being in London, we decided to head out on a road trip and my wishlist for the trip consisted of ‘green open space’. A three to four hour drive from London, crossing the river Severn took us into Wales ... read more

Hi everyone Please forgive my absence, I have been really hit with this cold I acquired on the ship. Someone remarked that sounded like a cigar smoker or Janis Joplin. Had none of the fun though and all of the scratchy voice and coughing!! Not nice. Did I tell you about you about our 5 mile journey that took three hours? Well we decided to catch the train to the very short journey from Southampton train station to the airport from where we were picking up the car. So we hop on the train having confirmed the destination with the guard. Unfortunately he forgot to tell us that the train didn’t stop at the airport and went through to Guildford about one hour away. After catching three trains, we eventually got back to the place we ... read more

We struck it lucky with a bright blue skied weekend for our 3 castles walk in Wales. Our train departed from Paddington at 7.45am so we were up and out the door by 6.30am. The journey was just over 4hrs with a fast change in Newport. By fast I mean we had 2mins, so we have to run up and over to get to the platform sliding into the carriage before it pulled out. Our host for the weekend Paul was waiting for us on arrival to drive us to the start point. The days hike was around 11 miles and took us up and over a few hills, so it was not a stroll in the park. The country side looked glorious under the blue skies, the patch work of green fields were picture perfect! ... read more

Day 15 Abergavenny - Gospel Pass 23 miles (442) A relatively short day trip up from home on a glorious morning to achieve this leg. I arrived at Abergavenny at 8.00am and parked up half way up the hill in the leafy outer suburbs. A gentle ride of 5 or 6 miles took me to a point just below Llanfihanel Crucorney where I joined the Vale of Ewyas. Here my route turned more northerly with rich hedgerows, flowery meadows and the heather clad hills of the Black Mountains closing in as the route gently climbed. Skylarks singing, buzzards wheeling and the cuckoo calling. After eight miles I stopped to brew a cuppa and frybacon for breakfast at the beautiful remains of Llanthony Abbey. The rich red sandstone of the ruins was beauitifully framed by the ... read more
