Rose and I went to Cardiff this morning. The day startd of at 7am. We mae our way to Victoria Station just before sunrise. Our busride took almost four hours beause the M4 was shut down. We arrived almost exactly at noon we went to see the castle there in cardiff. It was the first castle I had seen...besides arcadia's haha We pretty much just roamed around the city which was pretty small and went into the market and just chilled. It wasn't a gotta go here, gotta see this kind of thing. Everything was so inexpensive there too. I spent a total of 30 pounds the whole day. I wish I lived in the ancient times to be able to live in a castle and wear those dresses...well maybe just for like a week.. haha ... read more

Dear Lynfielders, It hurts to send this, but here goes. It was a slightly overcast Saturday morning. Paul, Timmy P, Deebo, Josmar & Aaron left Auckland Hill to meet up with Stephen Hart, Jac & Fi to go to Millennium Stadium in Cardiff to watch the All Blacks destroy France. We left excited, but came back devastated. It also didn't help that we had to wait for over an hour for Timmy P after the game cos he got lost on his way back to the van...(even though there is only one main street in Cardiff). Haha. Here are some pics... Enjoy, Aaron... read more

After the superb weekend we had in Edinburgh watching the All Blacks play Scotland, we were pumped up for the AB’s RWC quarterfinal against the French in Cardiff. Recognising what an epic weekend this would be, we originally had hatched a plan where four of us (Bev, Tim, James and I) would do the trip in a camper van as part of a lads tiki tour. However the plan needed revising when James, who was a crew member on the Great Beer Delivery, was delayed getting into London because of storms in the Atlantic. A novel excuse to be sure, but seeing he was bringing us a Speight’s Ale House we were happy to let this one go! Check out the video tribute to James to see how we made sure he wasn’t feeling too left ... read more

After a suitable period of mourning, I am finally emotionally prepared to write of the rugby 'incident' that was.. Al, Bing & I decided we had 4 significant goals for the day: A) Collect our rental car and ensure we wern't ripped off and given a bus of some description B) Successfull arrival and check in at our dodgy Etap budget hotel and ensure the booking was valid C) Not being refused entry from Cardiff's Millenium Stadium with what could very well be pirated tickets. D) Win the game Meatloaf says '2 out of 3 aint bad' but his maths is awful. As is now history, we managed 3 out of 4. I will therefore focus on the good parts: Our car was double upgraded from a Modeo to an E Series Mercedes - picture attached. ... read more

Standing in what used to be Cardiff Arms Park, the scene of many All Blacks triumphs, I stood in silence, surveying the wreckage of another All Blacks World Cup dream. Around me were the scenes of All Blacks fans crying, flags being broken and other fans like me, just standing in stunned disbelief. In direct contrast to the French fans who were singing and cheering their team as they did a lap of honour. I did not clap them for a good game because I am not a good loser. And I hope never to be really. Also I was a little disappointed that the All Blacks did not acknowledge their fans. There were quite a few people who had come up from London to cheer them on, and also many who had spent a fortune ... read more

The Rugby…Wales…England It’s been hard finding the time to do an update but here goes- We arrived in Cardiff and the first sign we saw was ALLAN it seems the Welsh have worked out what to do with their Allan’s as it means Exit. We loved Cardiff a good mix of the old and the new, the locals were also very friendly. We stayed at a farm B & B just west of Cardiff, the house was full of Rubgy fans so loads of fun. We caught a train into Cardiff for the Rugby and it was a sea of Red & White and Green & Yellow. We had great seats in the middle section on the halfway line right behind the press. We were a bit disappointed that the anthems were pre-recorded but we had ... read more

Hello from grey and rainy Wales Weather is drizzly - they don't have all these green fields and verdent countryside because the sun shines non stop! Went for a walk in the local countryside recently and landed up in Llantrisant - William Price came from here and was the first Welshman to cremate someome-his son. He was a druid and now his statue stands in the square. Freeman come from here and to be a freeman you have to be the son of one - and you get to 'beat the bounds' once every seven years to stop those Englishman taking back the land. Llantrisant itself has great small shops and a coffee shop worth the walk. Sandwiches served with crisps and an apple sitting surrounded by Emma Bridgewater crockery. As we walked through the common ... read more

Our house refurb is finished at last and we have a tenant moving in on Monday, so we're off! I booked the RTW ticket last weekend, at Trailfinders. It's a Discovery Plus ticket, with 6 stop-overs: London - San Francisco - surface to Los Angeles - Auckland - surface to Christchurch - Sydney - Brisbane - surface to Cairns - Singapore - suface to Bangkok - London. The plan is to spend 7 days in California, 6 months in NZ, 6 weeks in Oz, and 3 weeks in Asia, although we may stay a bit longer in Thailand, see when we get there... That's about 9 months in total. We've sold our cars too! So we've been bombing around doing last minute trips in a shiny new hire car! We're off to Lancashire on Sunday to ... read more

Hi Everyone well we had a great time at the game. Cardiff was packed full of red and Yellow and Green for the Wales Australia game. We had great seats on the half way line just above the boxes and the atmosphere was magic. The banter from the crowd was hilarious - Stevie Wonder could have kicked it better, ands imilar stuff. The singing was loud and fun - especially with the roof closed. The Aussies played well and Wales had a great second half. After the match we joined in the general fun and games. A woman flashed out of a third floor window to cheers from all the lads (in red and yellow) and then a guy chased a woman down the road as he thought she'd pinched his wallet. Drama all round. The ... read more

Well what an adventure! We're only three days into our European escapade (aka Rugby World Cup tour) and we've so far encountered a flight delay in Bangkok (a seven hour layover allowing for three hours kip at the Bangkok Airport Novotel), the great Belarusian transit visa challenge (we wrangled a 48 hour visa in less than two), cold showers at our London hotel (thankfully we weren't paying the 150GBP tariff advertised in reception) and a fairly mean hangover for some of the group - they're working on a second as we go to print. Catching up with friends and family at The Victoria Hotel in Paddington on Thursday evening was very pleasant. It was a balmy evening reminiscent of Sydney in October, we stood, drank and chatted on the pavement outside and the drinks went down ... read more
