This weekend was a bit spontaneous as a group of us decided to hop on a train and travel to Wales. Surprisingly, Wales is only a short hour and half train ride from Oxford which is over an hour closer than the Gatwick Airport that we usually fly out of. The trip was short and sweet and we got into Wales around noon. We had this awesome affordable Bed and Breakfast right on the water across from the huge rugby stadium. It was perfect. We got things started right away and dropped our bags off and headed to the infamous Cardiff Castle. It was really awesome as it still had the huge castle walls surrounding the towers and the castle house. We went on a tour of the castle and learned some history about it which ... read more

Got up early today.... not by choice, but by necessity. Two of the others in the room were leaving this morning, and making quite a racket as they got ready and packed. I was up and out of the hostel by 9:30am. That's early for me! And I took my time this morning getting ready, having breakfast, etc.... The hostel is really nice. For breakfast there were 4 kinds of cereal to choose from, two types of bread for toast, 6-7 different spreads for your toast, coffee, tea, orange juice, apple juice, milk.... Some places don't even offer breakfast as part of the deal, so this was a nice treat. I decided to try the lemon curd spread, and it tasted like a piece of lemon meringue pie! YUM! Walked down to Cardiff Bay.... It was ... read more

Well, I'm now in Wales. Since I wrote yesterday, I went for dinner with my new friend Stacey and her friend James. He came all the way from London to Chester to see her, and I joined them for dinner! :S I think that she was glad though that I was there, because I don't think she realized that he likes her until last night. After dinner we went to the partially uncovered amphitheatre and Stacey and I did some singing a la karaoke. I had my iPod to help me with the words. Then the three of us sang our national anthems. I think that the couple sitting on the bench above the amphitheatre were slightly amused..... I went to Chester Cathedral this morning once I realized that having skipped it yesterday, I was missing ... read more

Hey everyone, Well, I have just spent 3 days in Cardiff staying with relatives. It was nice and relaxing. I had a nice sleep in on the first morning then visited Cardiff Castle and did the tour of it, it was really good. Then we went on the hop on hop off bus out to the bay and had lunch with Ann, then back again, so I saw some of Cardiff City. In the night time, we went for dinner with friends of Phil and Ann to T.G.I. Firdays, which was really nice but very noisy. Their were a group of around 10 women for 2 separate birthdays, the noise was so bad. The next day, I had another sleep in then uploaded lots of photo's onto facebook which took half the day. Ann and I ... read more

The Millennium stadium in Cardiff towers over the centre of the city, and would have to be the most incredibly placed major stadium in the world. When the train pulls into Cardiff central you are right in the heart of the Welsh capital, and all a traveller needs to do is walk out of the station exit and there she is! This monster of a stadium seats 72,000 people, and was the home of the FA cup final while the long delayed building process for Wembley stadium was being finalised. It was built for the 1999 rugby world cup in record time, and certainly is an imposing sight in the middle of the otherwise sedate and peaceful capital of Wales. So here I am in Cardiff, dear reader, as the UK adventures continue. Firstly, let's recap ... read more

What a wonderful experience this was!! I had been looking forward to this day for months.. At first it seemed so distant - and I thought I was going to change my mind about attending the ceremony. As the date got closer, my heart started beating faster and I wanted to be there! It was so satisfying and fulfilling to meet my former classmates and friends back in Cardiff for our graduation ceremony. We relived and reminisced about our old times in South Wales. We partied throughout the week and made sure we celebrated in style! It was sad though when we had to part again - and this was very emotional for all of us. Seeing Cardiff and the surroundings on the last day was not a plesasant experience at all. Nevertheless, I will certainly ... read more

Cardiff is the capital of Wales. The city has well over 350,000 inhabitants and is bustling with activity. We arrive from Salisbury via train. The train ride was peaceful and uneventful. Lynne and I are beginning to master the art of traveling by train. Unlike the US, train travel is a key means of transportation throughout the rest of the industrialized world. Just to think that the American West was settled after the rapid expansion of the Trans-continental Railroad of the late 1800’s and now train travel is almost non-existent. American society has failed the railroad due to our quest for independence and freedom of driving everywhere on our own. I’ll expand on this rant in a later post. When we arrive at a new destination, one of our first stops is always the Tourist Information ... read more

Seeing as we started counting the days on Wednesday 2nd January 2008 we really haven't got long to go now! My car's sold, the flat's almost empty, three days left at work. We leave Cardiff for Hartlebury on Dad's birthday (27th June), then to Kate & Kaz's for the 28th and 29th, and on to Heathrow on the 30th (Pol's birthday!)... ... read more
