Frankly, having a short visit to the most fascinating cities in the world (I suppose) is always a rewarding experience... My 3-hours stay at the city centre of Edinburgh was really an achievement being an urban planner. Edinburgh is one of the old cities in the world and a very good example of the early and modern urban planning! Prior to my visit, stories about the city were just purely accounts of authors from books and magazines... and my own imagination! Being there alone was really a wonderful feeling of fulfillment - experiencing what these authors said about this Scottish city... amazing, magnificent, awesome, beautiful and fantastic - those words described my feelings - admiration at first sight! Wow!...Through my digital camera, I was able to explore the places, enjoy the city scenery - the ... read more

I've just finished a ten day stint on small, relatively featureless island somewhere off the west-coast of Scotland... and it was luverly! I finally managed to get off my arse a bit and do some work. Not that much, but just enough to appreciate the spare-time and solitude in between and get some inspiration for many a song on Lila. I stayed in a converted barn next to an old millhouse with a stream and a waterwheel. My only companion was a slightly oafish German who was doing the same thing as myself, and who took great satisfaction in referring to me as 'fucking Auf-stghralian guy!'. As we were within such close range most of the time, we soon learned how to survive together and he eventually turned out not to be that bad after all. ... read more

On 25th February, Lorina and I finally went on our first international society excursion to St. Andrew. We had the best weather as usual *being sarcastic*. At 8.45am, we boarded the bus at King’s College. At 11am, we finally reached St. Andrews. Sightseeing started with the ruins of St. Andrews' castle. We couldn’t really enjoy it because it was really foggy and icy. In fact, the wind was so strong that it was quite impossible to take a decent photo . After spending an hour at the castle, we moved on to take a guided tour of Scotland’s second oldest golf course. They say that golf was invented there. The tour was interesting although we almost froze to death. Then, we went on to the ruins of the St. Andrews’ cathedral. It took Tina some convincing ... read more

Elaine and I had a great night at the Kanye West concert. We were a bit late and missed the support acts but Kanye was super duper! We had standing tickets and as we are petite girlies it was a bit difficult to see at some points but the sound was brill. Went out clubbing afterwards at the Tunnel which was surprisingly good and managed to get ourselves kicked out of Canton Express (late night chinese for those of you who don't know Glasgow). Going to miss Glasgow nights out with my mates when i'm away!!... read more

Mid term break provides teachers in the UK with a much needed break from the rigors of dealing with this chaotic profession. But for a lifestyle-teacher like myself it provides an opportunity to frolic in a foreign land… in this case Scotland would be the land to which I turn. Azz did his very best to miss the bus, but apart from that, after a ‘wee’ 6 hour journey we arrived in Glasgow well acquainted with the humdrum of green pasture, snow capped mountain tops and British sheep. For the first time this trip, I was lured into doing tourist type things like visiting ancient castles, historic monuments and antiquated battlefields. But by delving into the history behind each town we visited (Glasgow, Stirling and Edinburgh), one could not help but marvel at how amazing ... read more

...life goes ON! HAAAAA! Or, more accurately, life GOES- once again! I'm finally off my arse and 'OOT' of the Edinburger for a while! The last five days have been spent charging around the Highlands taking in all of the marvellous beauty it has to offer. Pegs, Angus and I set off on Sunday to the Isle of Skye, on the way to which we were entertained by our animated bus driver 'Party Marty' while he filled us in on Scotland's rich history by telling us detailed stories of 'who bled all over which battlefield' and 'who's head was thrown into which river'. When we stopped of Loch Ness, Angus (crazy South African!) jumped in and went for a wee swim! (It is, you may care to know, currently the middle of WINTER in Scotland!) The ... read more

Today Emily and I started our first trip together completely independent of school and everyone else in the program. For the most part all of the other kids from school joined the trip to Prague with the school but we decided to take the more budget-friendly and unique option to spend the long weekend up north in Scotland. We left last night on the overnight bus from London to Glasgow. I'm not going to lie that this wasn't the most pleasant experience that we've ever had considering that we both thought we might freeze to death before we even reached our final destination. I don't know what the deal was but no matter how hard we tried we just couldn't get warm. The bus left London at almost midnight and we arrived in Glasgow at just ... read more
