Today Emily and I started our first trip together completely independent of school and everyone else in the program. For the most part all of the other kids from school joined the trip to Prague with the school but we decided to take the more budget-friendly and unique option to spend the long weekend up north in Scotland. We left last night on the overnight bus from London to Glasgow. I'm not going to lie that this wasn't the most pleasant experience that we've ever had considering that we both thought we might freeze to death before we even reached our final destination. I don't know what the deal was but no matter how hard we tried we just couldn't get warm. The bus left London at almost midnight and we arrived in Glasgow at just about 8:00am.
Once we got there we took refuge in the warmth of Starbucks to defrost and refuel before checking into the hostel and beginning our day. After we dropped our bigger packs off I took out my list of things to do and see and we hit the road. I think in this one day Emily and I have probably ever seen more
of Prague than some people see within a week.
The day started out at the Transportation Museum where it basically took you through a history of all kinds of Glasgow transportation methods from way back when until now. We saw everything from boats and trains to cars and motorcycles to horsies and EVERYTHING. From there we decided that we would go accross town and hit the furthest museum on the map then walk back toward the hostel and see all the museums along the way. We went to Glasgow Green, People's Palace, Modern Art Museum, Glasgow Cathedral, Religious History Museum, Glasgow University, The National Piping Center, and a bunch of other stuff that I can't even remember right now. We walked through so much of Glasgow that at this point it is all just running together.
I think the highlight of the day was that we met this cute little old man on the bus on the way over to the first museum. We didn't really know what stop to get off at that point but this eldery many overheard my problem (because it was a little hard to understand the busdriver) and told me he could help
out. So on the way over to the park he was showing me where everything was at every stop. Then when we got to the park he got off with us and walked us to the museum to make sure that we knew where we were going. When we finally got there he told us he was just going to get lunch at the museum since he had nothing else to do and he would let Emily and me walk around the museum and check it out. Once we started heading upstairs we decided we wanted to take a picture with him so we went to find him in the cafe we asked him to take a picture with him and before we even took one he got up and tried to order us lunch. He ended up getting us traditional Scottish breakfasts and completely bought Emily and me lunch. The whole time we sat there he was telling us stories about the history of Glasgow and different stories and things like that. He was really nice and it was a great way to start our Glasgow experience.
That night we ended up hanging out with some kids our
age that we had actually met in the hostel. They had some friends that were staying in the same hostel that we were and they were picking them up for the day and told us that we could hang out that evening if we had nothing to do. It was pretty cool because they actually lived there and showed us the main strip where everyone hangs out. Although a few of them lived there they were also with some American people as well and it was just nice to hang out with other kids that were our age for the evening. It was also nice to see people who lived there because it was fun to get to talk with people with the accents and everything and also people who could help tell us where else we should go and what else we should do while we were there.
Glasgow is a really cool city. Eventhough it was pretty cold and raining on and off the whole time we saw some really neat things today and everyone here was so nice. Most of the people were more than willing to help direct us wherever we needed to go and

These guys just hang out in Glasgow for people who need help on the street. once you get to understand the accent everything seemed to work out pretty well.
