Remember in the good old days when you could just go on holiday without having to check whether you were actually allowed to go on holiday? When facemarks were just things worn in the far east and to filter Claire’s farts?
It all seemed so simple back then. Save up, buy tickets, go. We’ll never take it for granted again!
Even now, just driving up into Scotland, we had to check what the restrictions were up here and whether we needed to shove things into our mouths and noses beforehand. Things are a bit stricter up here as they’re lucky enough not to have the partying custard lump in charge of their guidelines and most people are more sensible and thoughtful about wearing masks.
The drive up was a bit like driving in the States: turn left in 208 miles….. And after a while, the roads were as clear as those in the States too, particularly once you’d got past the latest downgrading of the M6 to a supposedly Smart motorway. I think I may have mentioned this before. And a lot more people have died since thanks to the absence of
hard shoulders. Better move on. We never got stuck in traffic so let’s leave it for now and try and stay calm.
This is the first time we have holidayed away from our ‘new’ house. And we moved in two years ago. So it all feels a bit strange and a lot exciting. Even for our cat sitter!
Google Maps said it was just under 4 hours up to Glasgow and our almost fully loaded Fiat 500 did it in about that plus a couple of short stops. Note-Greggs at service stations is a cracking idea as it doesn’t cost an arm and a leg to get something to eat.
We are sayng at the IBIS budget in Glasgow which is so budget there isn’t even any art on the walls. At critique nights our camera club often gauges a picture by what hotel wall a photo may end up on. This one isn’t even worthy of one of Claire’s…..now that’s budget!
Good job she doesn’t read this eh….ahem…..
The room is very basic but it’s clean and only for one night. It’s on a
leisure area type thingy which has a cinema, bowling alley, restaurants etc and is situated on floors 6, 7 and 8. Oh and the parking is free too.
We passed room 666 and I’m surprised they didn’t put me in there but I got a shot of the door. It was a bit tempting to knock on to see who answered…..
We then wandered into town and decided to head to a vegan restaurant. We found said restaurant and it was fully booked all night. So we headed somewhere else but got distracted by a Japanese restaurant (Hanami) which turned out to have some lovely vegan dishes.
I was then allowed to nip into Lidl. What a day!
