Hey guys!! Just finished my little couple of days in Aberdeen, was good to get out of Edinburgh and feel like a bit of a tourist again. Spent a couple of nights with Brenden and Maree, Geoffs mate from school in Gladstone so was a good connection to have!! Got here monday night on Megabus, (4hrs but only £8, really cheap) and was going through snow!! Will post the pictures up soon but on Tuesday there were periods of thick snow and periods of beautiful sunshine. We went inland for a bit and climbed a bit of a track to the top, got stuck up there with about a miniute blizzard and very windy, then made it back down the mountain trying to avoid the holes you couldn't see because of the whole, but everyone ... read more

I love not being able to use my arms for days after rock climbing; it's amazing! The night before the competition, I was called by my friend Norah (Austria) about the Lairig Mountaineering club. She said they were desperate on having some girls for the competition, they needed three at least to compete, but only had one (her). So, though I had never participated in the club, I went with to the RGU sport centre and got to rock climb for three straight hours, trying to complete as many routes as I could for points. It was amazing and tiring, but best of all, completely free! and I got an awesome shirt! How cool is that? ... read more

Aberdeen v. Edinburgh : The Futball Match! Europe » United Kingdom » Scotland » Aberdeen By KellybellyMarch 10th 2007Kelly Howard Aberdeen Won! Yeah team! Regardless of the ridiculously one-sided refs, Aberdeen beat Edinburgh on the home field; always an enjoyable event to see. I really wanted to go to a match while in the UK, but didn't really want to pay the big money to see a national team play. This match was perfect because it's a 30 min. walk from the Uni, cheap, and very obnoxious fans! I think I loved the singing and chants the best. So many insults, I could... read more

Okay, so. Friday night I was locked in a bathroom by my flatemate and had my fingers nearly smashed off when I was foiling his brutish plot with brute strength - I was going to break the broom he had locking me in so he pulled the door shut on my fingers. I am also now carving a sword out of a stick. Perhaps as a vehicle of vengance, but only time will tell. Saturday I joined a group called the "dirty weekenders", and yes, aberdeen has a club for that sort of stuff. while I was expecting a weekend full of hedonism and baccus-style celebration, I got volunteer work at a warehouse (not whore house) where they give away furniture and clothes to people who need them. And mugs and kilts to me, if I ... read more

so, the other day I decided to go to the bathroom. Granted, i decide to go to the bathroom on most days, and only every so often do I go to the bathroom without deciding to, but today was special. I went to a special bathroom. this room had a sink within reach of those sitting on the toilet. I said "awesome!" I now could multi task by washing my hands while going to the bathroom. the task being done, I wiped with my newly clean hands and only then did I realize how pointless my earlier timesaving endeavor had been.... read more

So, the school has this society called the international society. It is a nice thing, where they plan trips for us. unfourtunately, they are bus trips where we spend 7 hours driving and 2.5 hours out and about. one has to make ones own fun. Thus the trip to lochness and inverness was fun not for the places i saw but instead for the things that we/ I did. pictures are examples of this. oh, and in an effort to meet other non-americans/ canadians, the other international studnts and I sponsor crepe night. and, boy, am I good at making crepes. soooo good that the ladies and some guys swoon when I flip those suckers. classes here are interesting, you could skip them all and learn off of the power points and probably not miss anything...so ... read more

The amount of fun at any Ceilidh is truly endless! I don't think I have been hit in the head, stepped on, and swung around so much in my life, and still have been laughing and smiling afterward. This Ceilidh was great mostly because it was put on for International students, so hardly anyone knew what they were doing. It was absolute chaos, but loads of energy and fun. Stu and I got to enjoy a beautiful solo waltz in the middle of the dancing as well, it was quite brilliant.... read more

I have finally got around to setting this up. turns out thatbbeing a student and a tourist is a tough job, with lots of little things work work out. It is esspecially rough because the classes here are...not hard. this lack of challenging material if disconcerning because I actually need to know htis stuff later on. however, the worry is remedied by looking outside. well, walking a little bit. while me room affords a view of another building, a 5 minute walk brings me to an ancient cathedral and through a creepy and riveting park, or to the beach, or to a river, or to my destiny....maybe. last weekend i went to stonehaven...which was very very pretty. um...when i actually have the pictures off of my computer i will put them up (now i am on ... read more
