Arrived at Sean & Izzy’s house just as the boys were being put to bed - they’re not quite sure who “that lady” is, but happy enough! Chilled out with some food, a chat and some TV (bit of Eastenders and something strange, can’t remember what it was, but it involved the woman from the BT adverts). Friday got up early to head into Birmingham itself, trusting that my GPS would get me to the Thai Embassy at One, Victoria Square. It did - expensive parking there, £2.40 for one hour, but had been advised that only needed 10 minutes so went for that. Went in with £33, 2 photos, passport and my completed form, and 5 minutes later, one Thai Visa (apparently I need one as I go into the country without an exit flight ... read more

UntitledOk, so I havent started actually travelling yet, but I have decided to start early, because I'm so damn excited! So I'm in lovely Birmingham, where I go to uni, just tying up some loose ends before I set off into the mists of adventure that will be my year abroad! I go first to Salamanca in Spain - not sure of the exact date yet, because of the stunningly appauling organisation of the Year Abroad Office at Salamanca (could also have had something to do with me not sending the right form in soon enough), but mid September is about right. Then onto Augsburg, near Munich in Germany in about mid February (again, not sure of the date, and thats probably down to how much attention I'm paying to Salamanca - im bricking it, seeing ... read more

getting here was an experience. i got up at 5 am to get the 6 am bus from victoria station which is a ten minute tube ride away. only to find tha tubes dont start running until 6am. DILEMMA. caught a taxi there, the guy ripped me off becaus he drove away before i got all my change. how rude. the bus ride was uneventful and Greg was waiting at the station. Monday monday was fantastic. i spent the day watching Birmingham First XI playing cricket. Greg scored a half century and carried his team through but the game was eventually abandoned due to poor weather. caught up with George and Sandra that night and watched Pearl Harbour on Gregs projector and Bose sound system. dad, forget the LCD or plasma tv. get one of these. ... read more

Today Kevin and I went to watch Justin Timberlake in concert in Birmingham. We caught the train to Birmingham giving us plenty of time to get there as I had taken the day off work and Kevin finished work early. While we were walking around like mad people trying to find the NIA we saw lots of beautiful parts of Birmingham so look out for that entry in the near future, as we plan on taking a day trip out to Birmingham to do some sightseeing... PLUS they have one of the biggest malls EVER! so we will definitely be going there. Anyway once we found the NIA there were of course lots of young screaming girls everywhere! He had two starting acts, the first group I thought had some good beats and the people ... read more

You know the nightclub is going to be a corker when the lady taking the money at the door is about 90 years old. I've been in the UK for a week's lightning stopover, visiting my wonderful and completely bonkers family members. After leaving Beijing, I had a marathon 24-hour, plan-bus-plane-bus combo to get me here to deepest, darkest Birmingham, where I was born those 28 years ago. I stayed for a few days with my Nanny Griffith, who is the most energetic and friendly grandma a lad could hope to have, and then a cople of days with my other Nan, who is equally at home drinking beers with the youngsters or knitting by the firesde. Wonderful the pair of them. Saturday night happened to be my cousin's Birmingham stag night (he'd already done a ... read more

Hello, well i think i am getting the hang of this travelblog thing, but don't hold your breath. The location above is not bad but i am not from Birmingham, close though Walsall, which is about 18 miles north of lovely Birmingham. Staying with my in-laws, (Helen and Richard) until Sunday the 21st of January then off to Antarctica via South America. It has been fantastic catching up with my daughters, Hayley and Stacey, especially the fact that no one knew that i was arriving in the UK, seeing everyones face when i knock on their doors and greeted with the words what the bloody hell are you doing here!!! Seeing Hayley on Saturday 13th of January was especially good as it was her 21st Birthday the day before, once again Happy Birthday mate! My wife ... read more
